Hi all!

Anything new of standards of CW Ventress?

Well... We already finished one in friday evening for TR-9826

We had last weekend our biggest yearly event in Finland. There was characters from Nordic Garrison and Nordic Outpost + few hang arounds.

We didn´t yet get proper lightsabers ready for Ventress, but in progress..

Here is how she looked like:

Hi all!

Anything new of standards of CW Ventress?

I honestly don't know where things stand right now for the Clone Wars version of Ventress.

As far as I know, none have been approved yet... but I may be wrong since the GML's approved a flurry of EU costumes that I didn't know about at the end of last year, and there's a chance that somebody approved a Clone Wars version. I haven't gone searching through the legion's membership pages to find out if someone got through; and a fair number of them don't have pictures, anyway. There is not a listing for the Clone Wars version of her costume in the CRL list, but that doesn't say much because Ventress doesn't have a seperate listing for the other three versions that have been approved, either. The CRL is still very much a work in progress.

So.... are you volunteering to help us get the CW version's standards started?

Pam :-)

ABSOLUTELY!

We (TR-9826 & TI-9827) are volunteers to help you!

As we have noticed now is good time to CW characters. Especially here in Europe. Many countries here have recently started to show CW tv-series, so kids know the characters. Our "big hit" in our events (Finland and Sweden, Stockholm) have been Ahsoka: http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/4695/dscf5896.jpg Especially for little girls.

Last weekend Ventress made her debut here and catched the little boys. Bit scary, but cool 8)

So tell us what you want us to do? We made quite background work for Ventress.

Yours

Tape & Emma

Sweet! That would be a great help!

Just take a look at the standards that were written for the other versions of Ventress. The standards need to be broken into categories: "must have" and "should have." (There's also a "may have" category, but we don't seem to use that one very often.) From there, we just need to describe the details for each costume component and provide good reference images from the cartoon that show what the pieces should look like. It's a huge amount of work... but it creates a good "instruction manual" for folks who are making the costume!

OK. Have to read carefully those other standards.

Shall we make list here so everyone can commentate it?

Good morning,

I like the execution of this lady's CGI Clone Wars Asajj very much;

dscf5888.jpg

The bald pate in particular, is excellent, among the best I have seen.

The only point of critique I have to offer would be the treatment of the wrapped sections of the costume; waist, arms and legs. The paint applied works very well, but I would see it applied to a physical 3-D set of wraps, as in the CGI render;

VentressCloneWars.jpg

Bravo.

Be well,

Thomas

Excuse us for late answer. Mary Poppins have kept me occupied and TR-9826 have been busy with her work.

Thank you Emperor for droping by. We think we get your point. Every character have to be treated as it would be from real life. Our version is in this moment mixture of CGI and "real". We have planed to do those wraps in 3D. Have to test some alternatives to get the best result.

Sakara: We would be more than pleased for your help. Such as you have noticed English is not our native language.

We tried to find from internet those pix what we used for this costume, but it seems that most of those are not available anymore. Funny...

We have only few pix of those saved to our pc. If we put those to Imageshack they will remove those asap. As they did to my TI costume pix. Funny II...

Have to try to take some screenshots from DVD:s.

We´ll make some must & have list in Finnish first and then try to translate it...

Any word on the progress of costume standards for this version of Ventress? I ask because I would like to tackle this costume myself, and I'd prefer to add it to my growing list of 501st-approved costumes....

We started to make some sort of proposal for those standards, but haven´t finish those yet. Fe minor translation problems and something happened to our pc that we can´t get any screen shots

Reminder: Spank myself to finish the proposal...

Thank you ionicdesign. It looks, that someone have removed the blades from that picture.

OK, Here is the proposition for CW Ventress standards. And please, commentate, correct typos, suggest better wording etc. We couldn´t find all "right" words, so if you know those please tell me. The text is translated from finish to english, so... Atleast I´m willing to know right name for that velvet ( marked in yellow) *FIXED/ADDED*. Click the thumbnails for bigger picture.

Thank You mates for your kind help!

Id say skirt fabric should be either a crushed velvet or a Chenille, to give that texture she has.

eg - crushed velvet - the less shiny the better.

Chenille - popular in upholstery fabrics..but you can get thin enough ones for garments, ive made skirts and cloaks out of it and it has a richness to the texture.

Thank you Sakara! The crushed velvet was the word we were looking for.

hmm.. Less shiny? I don´t quite agree. If you compare these pictures you might find out what I mean:

hame2.th.jpg

hame.th.jpg

And chenille is almost matt and won´t reflect and move like Ventresses skirt in the movie.

yeah i was meaning not that really shiny velvet you can get, the cheap nasty fancy dress type crushed velvet.

with chenille you can get a nice rich sheen...here example i made a couple of Baris cloaks with smooth chenille and you can see where the cloak ripples as it hits the floor, the light catches the rich fibres and causes different colours to appear. Also on the second photo where the hood folds.

On a more crushed, textured chenille can look alot like what her skirt does too...but as i said it needs to be a thin chenille so as not to be too heavy.

Yes, chenille might also work. And for some costumers it might be easier to sew. Crushed velvet could stretch a bit while sewing.
