  1. I'm not familiar with the character, so I did some exploring to see who she is. I think your concerns about her qualifications as a "villain" may be a real concern. Just looking through some of these quotes... she sounds more Jedi verging on gray than anything else. "As apprentice to Kallig, she still held to her ideals as a Jedi, but served her new master. Their goal was to create a lasting peace between the Jedi and the Sith, and by extension, the Republic and Empire. When her master grew ill from binding too many Force ghosts, she aided Darth Zash in finding a cure." "While a capable fighter and knowledgeable of the Jedi Code, Ashara always believed that Jedi should be pro-active against the Sith and that she deserved better. These traits brought her close to the dark side, but even while traveling with Kallig, she tried her best to keep to the Jedi ways." "Ashara can be romanced by the male Sith Inquisitor. She will only progress her Courtship status with the player if the player chooses to make the more rational choices (usually light-sided) than choosing those of malice and cruelty (dark-sided)." My advice, as always, is to make the costume if you like the costume... not because one group or another might approve it. Even with good reference images, I can't guarantee that she will be considered a villain, and thus an approveable character in the 501st. But still, make it if you like it! Pam
  2. Martin Miller was the photographer for the Starkiller pictures. Wesley was the model. Wesley has a number of threads here in the Starkiller forum for his various costumes, and I believe there is an email link included in his posts. If I remember correctly, he moved on to other costuming interests a couple years ago and no longer has his Starkiller costumes. Pam
  3. Hi, Real leather makes the best quality headpiece, I think. If you get veg-tanned leather, you can soak it and then really get exactly the shape you need. That's what I like to use for the forehead wrap on my Twi'lek costumes, and it does really well! There is some information about working with leather down in the tutorials area, if you need it. Pam
  4. I don't think any of us would be happy if we didn't have another costume planned for the future! (Or three more costumes, or five of them...) Welcome, and we'll be looking forward to seeing your costume progress when you get started. Pam
  5. Welcome to Flagship, Dawn. I must say, your user name on the RL forum always makes me do a double-take when I see it. My maiden name was Unruh, and it's a name I don't see around very often! At this point, there is only one approved version of Revan. There is some discussion about the foundry version, but I'm not sure he would be approved since his good/grey/villain classification is uncertain. That decision would be up to the LMO, who would have to be convinced that Revan's qualifying as a villain at that point. You can find a thread about the foundry costume here on the forum. I haven't used sintra or wonderflex, so I cannot recommend either. I'm more of a sculpt and cast in fiberglass kind of girl. But, the rule is always this: it doesn't matter what material you use, as long as the final result looks right! There is no set size on the hooks, just make sure they look in reasonable proportion to your body size. Linen should work fine, I think. The reference images tend to have a bit of gloss to the fabric, and I have seen linens that have a nice sheen to them. As with all costumes, just compare the fabric you have in mind to the references, and see how it looks in color, texture, and drape! Pam
  6. Hi, This would be a Rebel Legion costume. You can find an interesting thread about them, here: http://www.rebellegion.com/forum/viewto ... rd&start=0 Pam
  7. Quoted for truth! The mask looks very nice. It's definitely a good start for the project. Pam
  8. It should be leather. Cloth would not be approved, and a rubber material against forehead skin is a bad idea. We tried that with my husband's Shado Vao head wrap which is quite similar in shape, and he couldn't wear it. It was hot and rubbed and made him miserable. Leather breathes, takes the shape well, and looks right. Pam
  9. Oops, sorry I didn't see this post before. Those boots? Pfftt. Those are mine in the picture. I paid a fortune for them to go with my Aayla costume. They were supposedly made off my measurements, but even after multiple attempts to get them stretched, I still can't wear them. The top of the foot is so tight, it presses down on the bones there and really hurts. When I told them, they shrugged it off and told me to get them stretched. Most expensive costuming mistake I've made in a long while. And, the heel is a bit too high for Traya. Pam
  10. What a beautiful costume! I think you'll need to raise the shoulder pieces before the costume would be approved. Yours are quite horizontal, extending directly out to the sides, while the reference images show them at a much higher angle. I love your fabric choices for this costume; they work really well. Nice work! Pam
  11. Thank you for making the translation! Thread changed to Announcement to keep it at the top of the forum. Pam
  12. I have to say that even though this costume doesn't truly match the reference images... it still reminds me of a work of art! It really is beautiful. Pam
  13. Hi, I've seen several Mara jumpsuits made out of fabric similar to that, and they look fine. It doesn't look as glossy or leather-ish as the coated fabric, but the coated stuff tends to delaminate over time, so it's a toss-up. It should be a good fabric to use. Pam
  14. I do not recommend this seller. The quality of the costume is not the best it could be, the weathering is not done well, and we have received emails from unhappy customers in the past who could not get their costume approved without a great deal of revisions. I've also received "you were right, I should have listened to you" PM's from members who bought this costume against my advice. It's not a difficult costume to make... why not make your own? I especially like the fact that there's not much hemming to do. Tearing up the bottom edge is a lot more fun than sewing it! Pam
  15. Absolutely fantastic. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more of this costume! Pam

    Mara Jade Wig

It looks beautiful! I'll be interested in seeing how you style it. I always have the hardest time picking and then styling wigs. They're my arch enemies, right after the sewing machine and serger! My sewing machine didn't like the material, either. It's too sticky. Folks kept telling me to get a teflon foot, but I never could figure out which one to get for my machine. Good luck! Pam
  17. California's Disneyland has an "unofficial Star Wars day" every year, but it's not at all like Star Wars Weekends in Florida. It's just Star Wars fans all going to the park on the same day, and taking a big group picture in front of the castle. Scott and I attended once, and it wasn't much different from any other day at the park. Most of the people who attended were focused on spending time with their own groups, and aside from a "hello" in passing when we spotted someone in a Star Wars shirt, nobody really talked to those outside their own groups. Everyone assembled for the picture, snapped it really fast because the group was blocking the sidewalk, and dispersed again. That's about it, and I found it disappointing. Guess I had expected something more! Pam
  18. Welcome to Flagship! Okay, just yesterday I was told about a potential new member who wanted to do a Starkiller, and had a girlfriend working on a Juno. You wouldn't happen to know Manoah, would you? Pam
  19. Since Mara wears no shoes while wearing the blue and black dress, and since going barefoot is rarely advised and often against the dress code at conventions and events, here's a great tutorial for making "invisible" shoes using transparent shoe insoles and flesh toned mesh fabric! http://andsewingishalfthebattle.com/invisible-shoes Another option is the "stick-on" type of "topless sandals" which are sold online. However these tend to be thicker and have bright colors, so they're less "invisible" than the insole trick. http://stickysandals.com/index.html Pam
  20. If this were a high-traffic section, I would probably split it into two. But I rarely hear from people interested in doing a Krayt/Hett costume, so there's not much need for it. The Flagship forum is getting really long and unwieldy, so I prefer to keep things as compacted as I can. There are other characters who have multiple looks under one area, such as Starkiller. That dude has a bigger wardrobe than Amidala! (And tears it up faster than a witchblade!) I could put both names in the title bar, though. Do you think that would help? Pam
  21. There is no CRL for the character with the knives, no. It has been established that each of the Nightsister characters is an individual, and costumes need to match the references for a particular character. There has been an attempt to approve a "custom" design which had a combination of different Nightsister's costume pieces, and it was not accepted. If someone has references showing both a front and back view of a particular character, and makes a costume to match the references, then it should be approved. Pam
  22. Hi, I don't know who will be there to take pictures. I doubt we'll be able to go this year... it's an expensive trip from California! Honestly, though, it's much better if you can take pictures at home or with a friendly local photograher, with a nice white background and good lighting. 90% of the pictures that people have taken for the CRL at conventions can't be used when I get them. They're usually too dark if they're taken inside the hotels, the color's messed up by fluorescent lighting, or washed out by intense sunlight if taken against the wall outside, or the backgrounds are too busy (we really need a nice white backdrop). Con badges are often visible as well, and it takes a lot of time to photoshop out things like that! Pam

    Mara Jade Wig

I actually have two Mara wigs. One is a darker red "put it on and go" wig that I wear for short events which is similar to the color of the wigs above, and the wig in my signature image. That one is a lace front wig, and I splurged when I had it made. It's human hair, custom dyed to match the reference images of Mara that I sent to them. I don't recommend going that route. In the end it proved to be more expensive than I had anticipated, and the chemical damage that the bleaching and coloring did to the hair has proven to be pretty bad. I condition that poor wig every time I use it, but it still looks like the victim of a tragic wind tunnel accident. The lace front looks awesome and people always think it's my real hairline, but I have to wear the hood up every time I use that wig, to hide the condition of the hair! Pam
