Leland Chee confirmed the encyclopedia entry was a miscommunication. Marrok is the first brother and this one is the eleventh brother.

Hi all,

I have continued to work on this costume.  Here are a few shots of prep work for the hood and cape.

The stiff foam liner you can see in this shot is there to get the bottom of the hood to flair out at the shoulders.

In terms of fabric I am currently investigating going with a dark charcoal grey color in either a cotton twill or a cotton sateen fabric.  Thinking the grey color rather than black as the artist drawing implies a slightly lighter color for the fabrics compared to the boots (which are black).

Additionally, I am still in process for how to attach the mask to headgear.  I was thinking that a hockey goalie style rig would work, but the top of the mask extends above my head, which would create a visible crease in the hood.  So now I am think I will need to go with some sort of helmet the mask can attach to so that I can get a smooth top of the hood.

Any thoughts or insights are appreciated!

I'd think a Charcoal Grey (close to black) would work very well, however I wouldn't recommend a cotton twill or a sateen as that will look and move very differently to the animation. I'd say a medium weight coat fabric (either a wool, silk or poly-blend) would be your best bet to get this effect.

Hi all,

I have done a bit more work with the helmet-mask situation.

First, the problem.  As you can see in the pic below, the mask extends above the top of my head. This would create a visible ridge in the hood, not good.

So, I thought that if I attached the mask to a helmet, I could get a more smooth transition that would not have this ridge. I think this might work, would you agree?

New problem, the weight of the mask pulls the helmet down in the front.  So I will need a way to secure the back of the helmet to counteract the weight of the mask.  You will notice that I am holding the back of the helmet to provide this in the pics.

Any ideas of how I could achieve this?

Side note, the hunt for fabrics continues.  Who knew dark charcoal grey in a mid weight wool would be so hard to find!

That is my latest update.  Remember constructive feedback is always appreciated!

Would adding arms as with glasses help so that it holds up the mask with the assistance of your ears, as well?

In the military world, we use counterweights on the back of our helmets to offset the weight of Night Vision optics...you could add small lead weights to the back of the helmet inside, that way there won't be anything sticking off the back of the helmet creating a bump under the hood

Hi all,

I have been working with a boot maker that has been selling to the Sith Lord Detachment for these boots.

Here is the first set for the 11th brother.

I think the stiching for the shin area is representative of the image we see in the concept drawing.

I am concerned with the thickness of the sole, I have asked if we could reduce that down by half so that it is not as thick.

Any thoughts?

Helmet Update

So @Naasad Tal's suggestion ended up being the winner to help with the unbalanced weight.  I was able to velcro in a small pouch with lead weights inside the back of the helmet.  It does add 1.5 lbs to the overall weight, but it feels the best of anything that I tried.

The next step was to attach the mask to the helmet in a semi-permanent manner. The pictures up above just used velcro and and foam padding.  The permanent solution is to add magnets to the inside of the mask and the helmet.  That is what you will see in the pictures below.  I feel like I can move my head around without any slippage between the two pieces.  The mask also sits away from my face, so the air flow is pretty good and does not get too stuffy while wearing it.  My next step will be to take this to my seamstress so that she can begin working on the hood.  As always if you have feedback to share that would improve this build, please share.

(Sorry for some blurry pics, it was difficult to take these witthout seeing the phone)

Hi all,

We have an event in Detroit called Space Dive.  It is a pop Star Wars bar where costume is required for entry.  I have gone several times and it is a blast!  This year I took the opportunity to test out the Inquisitor mask/helmet in a real environment.  Please ignore the rest of the costume as it is not representative of what the final costume will look like.

My field of vision was not too bad during daylight hours, but it got much worse as it got darker.  I also had to adjust the mask/helmet throughout the night as it kept slipping.  But I think it was a valuable learning experience to make further adjustments.  Added bonus, lots of people really like it, which is nice motivation to continue the build.
