  • LordZedel changed the title to Darth Bane Battle of Ruusan Offical CRL WIP

peer review:

the sad history of the inconsistency of darth bane's battle of ruusans lightsaber are as follows , a straight handled saber from the comic (image 1) or a hook handled curved hilt from the darth bane trilogy, with this comic(jedi v sith) and the first book of the trilogy ( path of destruction) take place at the same time.  my question for my peers is this. if i include a lightsaber with this build of (image 1) the straight hilt. will the ultrasaber darth bane saber work for this costume submission (image 3), are image 1 and image 3 similar enough to warrant being approved.  or does the curved hilt have some credibly in this build despite not being the image shown. thank you

By definition of how the 501st Legion validates approvability (as of 2012 and later), details must match within a single reference. That means that you can not combine references for details of parts of a costume. You must also utilize cohesive reference, meaning if one reference differs from another (in this case, book cover vs comics) you can not combine them and must think of them as separate existences for the purpose of approval. If you are basing it off the hilt from the book cover, then it would need to be the complete cover version submitted, which is not possible because there is not a full 360 degrees of cohesive reference even on that front.

We need some level of consistency to create any value of a basis of system for approvals, and picking and choosing which details we utilize from different references defeats the purpose of having an approval system at all, or being able to claim the highest level of quality in reference comparison that the Legion has. The only time this is not applicable in when there are differences within the SAME reference material, e.g. Aphra and her Barbie-like array of clothing and accessories options within a single issue of a comic. You are technically able to pick and choose different setups based on what she wears in the comics. Generally the same parts but in different combinations with some variation in designs (like her aviator cap and goggles that are different in every damn panel.

Now, that doesn't mean you can't utilize whatever hilt you want in your free time, but for the purposes of approval and trooping, the rules of approval dictate that you use and wear what is in the approval and the CRL.

to whom it may concern,

regarding future build of any who wish to build this version of darth bane i highly recommend investing in a good dancers belt. the under layer of this is costume is a skin tight suit, that is covered by the belt loincloth. while not required i highly advise it. thank you

Due to a very large miscommunication between flagship eclipse and the global 501st lmo team this crl has to be reworked. Please do not build anything to what is above until myself, the builders and the global lmo rep are able to hammer out in detail what is required to bring this to life. Thank you.

I was considering trying to put this build together myself as well.  I had some different interpretations of some of the images than you did.  This is not to suggest that yours is wrong, I just had different ways I imagined bringing the outfit out of the comic to life.

Do you mind sharing the issues that exist with what you've created?

I absolutly will. However the rework build itself is wrapping up very soon, designs have been decided upon for the crl and I will have a full explaination of the new parts as well as new updated photos.

That’s exciting to hear. I was going to offer to help, if there was more that needed to be done.

I am looking forward seeing the end result.

If there is anything I can do to assist, let me know.

good day all. it has been a long time since i have  posted any updates regarding this build and i thought an explanation is in order.

in response to my previous update regarding a mix up between flagship eclipse and the global LMO'S the reality of what happened is that our leadership and the 501st leadership had very different opinions on how this costume should be presented. this is the fault of nobody and i do not blame anyone for what happened, i poorly choose to submit the costume at a time when leadership roles were changing hands and thus there was confusion all around,  it happened and we have moved on in order to bring this character to life.  that being said the costume did come back with fixes and ill will be updating everything new  as it gets approved. the legion is approving everything piece by piece and as such it will be posted piece by piece and both leaderships sign off on the design.  i hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and i cant wait for 2024.
