  1. Oh hey funny you mention the Rebel Legion. I am a costume judge with the Rebel Legion. Recently we have had some shifts with the detachments (specifically dealing with Rebel Support and the Smugglers) (we have a smuggler detachment) you may have just asked at the weirdest time when a lot of stuff was going on. However IF you go forward with that costume and decide to submit just take some mental note (maybe shoot a mail to the LMO if you cant truly decide) and just submit what you think it should be. Did you ask here? if not... http://www.forum.rebellegion.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=399 ^^ Hope that helps
  2. Bald Cap...ohhh bald cap.. how I hate them. Yeah... Im gonna see if can bother mike to come in here (or his lovely lady) and see if they can offer advice. They are the bane of most peoples costumes. Ive had friends spend a lot of money on bald caps just to learn they were doing one little thing wrong. However as with most things, makeup is one of those cases where the more you spend the better quality you will get, When i made my Palpatine i made VERY good friends with my local High end FX/Makeup shoppe. They trained and taught me tips (and got my business for life) because they took the time to help. You might want to take a gander in your area for a local shoppe that specializes in FX makeup?
  3. Kylo

    Darth Traya

You look marvelous! Huge congrats on the approval and May the Force be with you lady sith!
  4. As someone who works with leather, I know how incredibly expensive leather can be, I reccomend doing a pattern as much as you can to get that perfect shape using craft foam. However for the headpiece itself, i would also recommend trying maybe Cintra or Wonderflex for this. They give a super clean edge which is so nice and in very little work above just needing a blow dryer.
  5. ^^ that is what i thought as well which is why i mentioned the Super thin stuff. Id stick with a Linen or a nice cotton weave
  6. I found one (a single person approved with this costume)!! Hows the costume coming? Would still love to see some refs of the original *pulls out game*
  7. I personally have never seen Vinyl. But I personally wouldn't unless you went to the LA fabric district and found something INCREDIBLY thin. My neck seal on my Kylo is from super thin and flexible faux leather. Personally the in-game renders dont look anymore shiny between the sash and the robes. I would stick to the same type of material your robes are made from or your gonna have that "shiny vs non shiny" issue with cloth which occurs when you mix a high poly material (faux leather) with a non (like your robes made of cotton) The only other way you could test this is by purchasing Real leather (which btw there was some super thin stuff i picked up @ FIDM last week), they were selling hundreds of pound of off purple light weight leather (thats easily dyable to burgundy) for 5$ for a HUGE sheet. The real leather wont shine. its natural (just like your robes) and wont create that stark look.
  8. I get called Revan hehehehe Though I am 100% sure its not as often as you get called Kylo PS- Congrats to your lovely Bastila! But yes, I do think we even have a larger issue at hand that we may need to rebrand more than one detachment and expand our mission statements to offer inclusion of more/multiple or different types of costumes. The "First Imperial" Stormtrooper took First Orders and Phasma and yet their name is "Imperial Storm Troopers" they clearly are not "Imperial" The SITH Lords took Kylo Ren.. why? cause he is our new cannon movie bad guy and one of the forefront driving forces of the First Order We @ TFE should be looking into taking any New Cannon EU Characters as they come (and they will come)
  9. Just my two cents, you know my costumes Darien as well for my love of the EU. But a costume needs to go where it best fits and at this time the Sith Lord Detachment would be the spot they could potentially get placed. On Legion 1sts and the KoR: I (as a person who is working on a Snoke) I still wonder who exactly are these people? (KoR and Snoke) We dont know enough about them and as much as i would love to see these costumes approved the simple answer is that we do not have enough reference on any of them at this time (Snoke Included) These people are the pinnacle of "DS". At this time if for some odd reason they were ever approved they could fall under the same instance as Sim Aloo, whom is a simple Denizin/Senator of the Imperial side. I think the best course of action is to just wait. We dont know who or why the KoR are doing what we are doing and we ..im sorry to say this, we know so little about these guys we dont even have clear shots of the color of their costumes (or shots of the costumes for that matter). As much as I would think it would be cool, these are cannon movie bad guys not cannon EU bad guys However, id leave it up to the Legion 1st to decide what path they would wish to walk. On that detachment conversation: One thing of note is that many of the costumes he listed no ones even ever made.. so saying "lets make a detachment for a bunch of costumes cause someone might make em" is short sighted and creates a lot more work for the Legion on all ends. (and to be real we have a million EU costumes people still havent made so to say these random pirate costumes "will be" and just to make a detachment for the "just in case" ..i just think that we could out our time and effort into other things. We have strong detachments (this one included) who are plenty capable of handling more costumes. We only are VERY unique in that we have many costumes but they are done by fewer members. (as a pure example) Youve got 3000 approved Clean White TKs and 2 Starkiller Dark Apprentice Robes Of course its never about members or "how many" i could care less about that, I am here to help and make friends and hold this detachment together and continue to watch it grow and progress, so while i would Never detur a KoR from being here I would wonder if the placement was correct. MTFBWY My Lord Revan
  10. On both points, I could not agree more. Thank you so much for documenting this, i am going to note it down in my changes list. (Might be begging you for a photo of that skirt at some point to get the CRL updated) If you would be willing to provide. I need to go pop up a video of this beauty (or pop in the game again) I bought it on my comp specifically for looking at his costumes!
  11. Yeah i am amazed at how fast you did this! Do you have any reference images btw?
  12. Yeah honestly it could just be lighting! Let me see more! Loving this.
  13. Ahh such a Starkiller Fan. He is my favorite EU Character (shhh dont tell the Revans that) I cant wait to see! Huge hello and welcome!!
  14. A few things (just skimmed it again): As far as I know (can recall) we dont have a finished CRL for this costume yet Just skimming the costume it looks nice (ill take a better look later) My first recommendation is to get some good reference and screenshots of the original (post em here that would be awesome!) Second: off the bat the biggest thing i notice is the color. You used rit dye brown/or tan and thinned it huh? It always makes material pink. I think the color should be altered on the headpiece What I do is i use a tinge of dark brown and a smidgen of grey or black. for the parts you cant remove from a costume you can always paint it on (a diluted solution of it)
  15. Can I just say.. *sequel* and LOVE! This is awesome! I will be back to check this lil baby out more later tonight, from here it LOOKS AMAZING!!
  16. I cant see the Seventh Sister going anywhere but here, it would be an interesting placement to see her anywhere else. To build this costume and submit it (if you have a WIP up) I could see the costumer receiving the most support though using this forum. That is just my two cents on the subject.
  17. You really look fantastic! The makeup is superb and that bald cap *gasp* Lovely!
  18. If its around the same grain (thickness and type) of leather you should be alright, just make sure not to get a Leather thats to thin as youll be needing it to pull and hold
  19. Aye you should be alright going with anything in the red hue. she is more of an "Orange Red" though if you were going with a bit more burnt you will probably still be fine, just stay in the red region, id advise against Burgundy as thats a bit to dark and "Ariel" Red would be a touch to red. Honestly with her hair the more Strawberry Blonde Direction you go the better I think. I recommend Arda wigs they seem to hold up really well!
  20. Thank you so much for your incredibly kind words! *hugs*
  21. So for the cape I think i purchased around 5 yards of material?? and then I just pleated it. The pleats I believe are Box pleats. http://www.sew4home.com/tips-resources/sewing-tips-tricks/how-make-box-pleat-standard-and-inverted The pattern would be so simple it just involves you ironing these pleats and sewing the bottom and top and affixing the hooks. The capelet is another story, I took 1.5 yards of material and made 3 pleats at the bottom and sewed them down (so they arent free flowing pleats) and then i wrapped that around the costumer and i tacked in the top around him and sewed around the neck. Then i made the hood. On Revan the shape is VERY unique and iconic. you really only need to do a normal hood http://whatthecraft.com/how-to-attach-a-hood-photo-tutorial/ but what you want to do is to make sure not to affix the ends close to your neck youll need to tack them down and tailor them to your neck area. Just pin it down and test and see if it works until you are happy then sew. Use a Cotton. do not use a suiting or a polyester it will fray, youll need something that is nice and tight weaved so that you can bunch all this up and affix the hooks
  22. Hello! yes Ive seen the cape and hood done as one or two parts. I just made a new hood and capelet for one of my friends. I do recommend making the capelet and hood as one and the cape as another as all of the hooks work separate. .
  23. Black cotton is just fine. I myself sewed a pair using a nice weight black cotton, Make sure that when you do buy it that all of your blacks are the same tone. I see this concern with a number of all black costumes. just keep your blacks all the same shade of black. there are brown/red blacks and blue blacks and true blacks (which that one is rare) so just get a swatch and dont buy until you have the same tone
  24. Hello to you! I hope this helps as a basic pattern for your tabards
