Good evening! As I mentioned a few days ago with GML Heidi, I wanted to see if with this mask already finished I would be able to approve my wip of Darth Nihilus coft, a big hug

But it is valid to give the go-ahead, your answer is a bit ambiguous to present my wip with that mask?

Excuse me, I am puzzled by your comment.

As to the other masks you have shown, this one could work as it is more skull like.

It is one of the slighty better 3d files I have seen and as I have already mentioned, I would very much like to see someone being able to do the "right" form of mask as a 3d file for all of us to use for a more shared look of this costume, but there is still sadly none.

Therefore we have different shapes of masks out and about, and again, it depends on the overall look of the whole costume put together, how it will look and if it gets approved.

I am trying to help

Hello good afternoon, forgive me if my comment was disrespectful, it is not my intention as I read in another post on this forum that this mask was the most viable of all, I bought the STL file, printed it and painted it as you see in the photo of this post, since as I had already bought and printed several masks and none of them were acceptable to me, I wanted to make sure that this last one would be validated in view of the fact that you only accept the wicked armor one that apparently is no longer manufactured and you do not accept any of them as valid either. I have been trying for almost a year to validate my suit in which all the people of my Squad are behind it and as you can understand behind all the investment and effort both mine and my companions and after seeing so many negatives, discouragement and disillusionment begins in the 501st

Well, we here in the Detachment are trying to help all of you out the best we can with the materials that are available  - if those are not available anymore we try to guide to remodel the ones that are out there the best way possible.

I am sorry that you feel that way, as I did my best to help you. I too had to remodel my 3d printed mask before getting my Nihilus the green light - many are working on costumes for a long time, before getting them approved, that is just the way it is with creating the best quality and apperance.   We are proud to say that the costumes in the 501st.Legion are the best of the best, but still possible to do without breaking the bank IF one takes the guidance and actually do the changes.  That is also why we have CRL´s...

And I have to correct you, I have NOT said, that the wicked armor is the only one that is acceptable ... I said it was the only one I know of, that is of the correct shape.

It saddens me to hear you talk this badly about the Legion, we try our best to help out, I wont say something will pass if it is not able to, if you see that as negative, discouragement and disillusionment I am truly sorry for you.

I am looking forward to seeing your updated costume and hopefully it will pass this time.

The unfortunate part about approvals is also that we can say it is approvable or not, but that will be determined by your GML in the end.

By Detachment standards, I trust the Costume Advisors, but they do have to have a bit of ambiguity as they are speaking for the detachment and not for the GMLs.

sorry, I'm not speaking badly of the 501st legion, I'm just saying that in my situation, I asked about all the masks to print that were most similar to the coft suits that you had uploaded and in my case none of them were suitable, it was only worth modeling something that in my case I don't know! or buying the wicked armor one that they no longer have. I even asked if there were alternatives since I saw high ones each with a different mask. And of course it's disappointing to see that you can't advance for an element that is out of reach, since my only question was if this last mask could be approved or validated.

Let's see, I don't mind improving the things you've been telling me, since that improves the appearance of the suit and gradually adjusts it to the standards of the 501st Legion. I made all the modifications that were requested in regards to the suit and if they were changes for the better, I have no complaints about that. The problem comes when you have everything ready and you find out that because of one mask you can't register the suit that you're building with so much love and dedication, where even registered colleagues don't understand the veto on so many masks because for one reason or another there is no agreement on something that from my point of view is fundamental: the characteristic mask of the character, that obstacle that gives the sensation after so much searching and so much asking is unattainable, or it is molded or it is bought in W.A. and after seeing a great variety of different masks registered! But if it doesn't fit, even the purchase of that W.A model or you don't know how to mold it, what alternative is left? Do you expect? You try to find a unification of masks or simply by people much more knowledgeable than me within the 501st see this inconvenience not only for me but for other recruits who want to make this costume a reality. At this point is where all the illusion begins to break

I also appreciate all the help you have given me, the truth is that you have enlightened me every time I asked, but at this point I see no other way out than to say what I believe I have to defend, always with respect.

We all have problems finding the right parts for some costumes...

I for one couldn´t use a sewing machine when I started out 12 years ago, nor could I mold my own parts - that is the beauty of this hobby, you get to know people and learn by their guidance how to do it.  I know the hardship, I know the frustration and I just want to help others, that are in the same boat as I once was.

Of those 5 masks, I have told you nb.1 needed to get the eyesockets molded and the red strips sanded down, that is not hard to do. I did it with my mask and got approved - it is like being in kindergarten again, use modeling clay, shape it, let it dry and then sanding, and lastly paint.

Nb.2 - needed the eye sockets remodelled.

Nb. 3 - the eye sockets needs more work as the eye sockets are to big and needs to be molded into a better shape. The red strips are fluss with the mask, as they should be.

Nb. 4 - I would say that one could be approvable since it is more skull looking, not sure if you have shown that one before, I can´t find it in your posts in here ?  it still needs a little more work around the eyesockets, to be more prominent, then I would approve it.

Nb. 5 - is the one you asks about if it is approvable, and again, it depends on the overall look when all the parts are put together.  I would most likely approve this, but as Nina writes it is up to your GML.

The problem we face is, that GML teams in the Legion are not doing the approvals the same way, some masks are being approved that shouldn´t have and that is a problem, when someone wants to get the same approved and can´t due to their GML upholding the CRL better. Some costumes you have seen can be several years old, where the CRLs later have been changed and now it wouldn´t be able to be approved.

Here in the Deatchment we try to guide you the best we can - we are using our free time, hours of our personal lifes to help others get their costumes done, I think many forget that.

I am truly sorry that you are feeling this way, but making costumes takes time - if you want to join the 501st., you need to go that extra mile, especially with a face character like Nihilus.  If you had chosen the KOTOR version instead, that mask would be easier to find... it all comes down to research of what you need for the costume, before you jump in, that way you could have avoided a lot of the setbacks.

Again, I am looking forward to greet you soon as a 501st. member
