Belt Buckles

Hey all,

I'm in the process of tweaking my AOTC version so it wears better. Its first troop everyone loved it but after wearing it for 6 hours I noticed a few changes needed to be done before I could honestly submit it for approval. That being said.. One of the changes I'm considering is remaking the belt and possibly the buckle as well. Now the pics show that this is a large round one with a bar in the center. I went with 5 1/2 inches diameter. What sizes have other AOTC versions gone with?

And because I'm a glutton.. I can't help it. I love costuming. :P I'm working on a secondary Asajj. This one will be the Sash version and it looks like the buckle is a bit smaller. Again, what sizes have people gone with on this one? I'm thinking possibly 4 inches? Also, I'm trying to figure out the design on it by looking at the Unleased statue pictures. It looks like two hollow eyes and an open mouth. If someone has the actual figurine can they take a closer look and see if that's what it looks like?

Many thanks and looking forward to comments. :D

The sash version belt that i made..i made mine over the top of one of those boho belts there were around a while back..with the big disc buckle...like this but with a solid leather belt

Now where were some of these buckles when I was looking a few months ago?? I do like the Moroccan one and well as a couple of the ones with bars. Definitely something to consider.

Brita used a couple or things that her father and I tooled together to make hers:

The outside is a handle from a washcloth stand with a bathtub fitting inside it help together with a smaller equestrian ring and pin that the belt material was sewn to on the one side.

If you'd like any suggestions as to what we did feel free and ask, there is a bunch in her thread

here on the Flagship and on the Alpine garrison site (I believe a link is in her thread).

Hi,

I'm very happy that I've found this topic about the belt buckle. I have the same problem to find a good buckle.

I now use a buckle like this one:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EX-CATALOGUE-DISTRESSED-SILVER-RIVET-BELT-SZ-S-M-BNWT_W0QQitemZ260481454722QQcmdZViewItemQQptZWomen_s_Accessories_UK?hash=item3ca5e79282

But the 501st haven't approved it. My next buckle was this one:

forumflagshipeclipse.jpg

And I found that this one is much like the ones on the pictures:

asajj_side.jpgVentressBelt.jpg

Cause the belt is round in both ways and not flat like that one from brita appeares to be.

So hopefully anyone of you have idea's of how the buckle has to look?

Thank you already!

Hello,

The first buckle you show in the auction is much too thin. The second buckle is a good size and shape, but it appears to be unfinished. Instead of looking like manufactured metal, it looks more like gray and white putty that has been shaped by hand. While putty materials can work, you will need to finish the buckle before it would be accepted.

First, you need to sand it smooth and round. It appears lumpy right now.

Then, it needs a coat of metallic silver paint.

That should fix the buckle and make it look correct.

Pam :-)

I did a resin casting of one that I'd sculpted. I will probably redo it though so I can get a smoother surface but I'm waiting for the cold weather to go away first.

For my buckle, I went with 3 1/2 inches for the diameter. For the design, have a look at the 12th pic down on this site, you can see the buckle design clearly: http://www.gentlegiantcollectors.com/St ... tatue.html

Good luck!

Oooo! Thank you for posting that site! I've been trying to find photos that are more detailed and those are perfect. Hhrrmmm.. I may have to sculpt a new buckle now. I currently have one that I found on another belt that is a disc with a design etched into it and have one sash tooled and had started to do the color on it but with these photos I can now see some details that I missed before and will have to go back and fill in if I can.

I took my belt buckle from one of my trenchcoats. Never did like sashs in jackets.

It was purple plastic so a spray painted it silver and put a clear coat over that.

Alternatley you can get metal washes from hardware stores and customise those.

We used a ring from a washcloth holder from Walmart, a shower fitting for the inside detail, and a ring from a saddle harness (to support the fitting and for the cross bar) that my husband tooled to wrap the one side of the belt around.

Hi guys

I've been busy passed days with the buckle and this is the result. Cause of the flash from the camera the metallic color flashed back :P If you know what I mean

What do you think of it?
