  1. that's lovely.. is it on the site yet? nm found it http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/MHSV1 ... -P985.aspx one step closer to an mhs based accurate revan saber.. oh how good would that be
  2. Alan you're a star mate, that side view is actually quite useful I had no idea the ribbed portions were misaligned. I thought they lined up with the front.. (paint pic attached) or is it not that important?
  3. Hey all, After a while of things coming up (changing jobs, plus a load of other stuff) I'm hoping to continue with my revan and start building the rear armour. What I'm after are any pics anyone has of their armour on from the side (with cape out of the way) so I can properly gauge how big to make the bottom strip and subsequently, the leather section and where the rest starts. once I have a good idea of how to size everything compared to my front armour I can start crafting it Thanks for any pics!
  4. will do. heh definitely. not got a lot of room so its been hung up with a few other costume bits and got a bit creased. for troops i'll make sure the iron comes out what are your general thoughts on it so far Alan? anything looking like it needs altering/changing so far?
  5. Thanks Steve that means a lot I was dreading doing the paint as I don't think I do too well in that department (bit of a patience failure when prepping, waiting for coats to dry, etc..) The advice I got on here re. black washing helped a lot, the weathering went brilliantly once I knew what I was doing there
  6. Hey all, Finally getting round to posting this up. I've been working on this a while, re-painting etc.. lost a bit of momentum but I'm back on it now and hopefully I'm a bit closer. Here are a few pics, comments welcome And flexing my dark side powers at wales comic con I'm still in need of sabers, all my contacts have fallen through or said they can't do it Next job will be the back piece. The guy I got the kit from didn't do the back (it's not MWA, it's someone in the UK). I was thinking of making it from worbla. I have some and some craft foam so I'm going to have a go soon. Will make up a template with an old t-shirt with my brestplate on and see where I need to make it to, to join up with it. I already have the ribbed section to match the front and rings to attach. As said, comments/advice welcome. Thanks Dave
  7. Hey, thanks for the reply. I have some black/brown acrylic paint so that's good. I heard people use alcohol to 'break the surface tension' for a more even coverage. I tried mixing some up today using acrylic, water and some nail varnish remover (closest thing to pure alch in the house) and it didnt go so well. Perhaps my ratios were off. Is this something you'd recommend or would paint + water be enough? Thanks
  8. Hi all, I'm currently doing some painting on my revan armour and need to weather the mask/armour. Whats the best stuff to use to create a black wash to do this? what kind of ratios to use? It is painted with an enamel paint if that makes any difference. Thanks for any advice.
  9. Wow! You look fantastic Nice work
  10. very nice. I'm actually having a few made in the UK myself. my karate instructor manages an engineering company and during a random conversation I find out he has a machinist that can do whatever he wants for him. I measured out all the dips and grooves etc.. and sent him a printout and he'll let me know soon what he thinks. Only problem I have is he doesn't think he's able to make the pommel.. seems to be the hardest part to get right but we'll see. Nice to see a few more UK sabersmiths popping up able to make these... not easy to find an accurate one.
  11. Does no one else have any links to resources or advice to give?
  12. according to the 501st standards it has them under the arms as well so probably best to go for the same. http://www.501st.com/databank/Costuming ... ss_concept
  13. Hey, cheers for the reply. I have it from a reliable source that the back piece and an accurate kotor/revan saber are/will be in the updated standards for 501st/UKG hence the reason I'm keen to get it done. (I have plans to get the saber made too) Obviously the colour would be the same front and back, was more the actual colour of it I was after but I think that mystery is resolved I'll try to search for Carolyn's build, thanks.. that's what I'm really after. A WIP or guide on how people go about doing that as I've never sculpted before in my life so I'm really after some info and pics on how others have done it so I can replicate that process myself. Good idea on asking nearby members if they have a vac former, I'll have to ask if any UKG people nearby have access to one I could borrow. So I think the general jist is a torso and sculpt is the best way to do it.. especially if I intend to vac form it using HIPS/ABS. Will have to do some general searches on sculpting and vac forming techniques Cheers
  14. heh nah i'll create a specific thread for that. the bits i need should be here in the next few weeks just hoping there's some information knocking about i can use to make a start on the back piece

    Pouches?

Out of interest, has no one thought about just making them? Looks like a very easily done pattern. The one on the standards page is just riveted instead of stitched which is a very cheaty way to do it. Make a basic pattern out of card to get your sizes, transpose that on some tooling leather taking the thickness into consideration as well as extra to stitch onto depending on how you want to stitch it, and cut it out. just a case of dying, stitching and waxing. Done a similar pouch for a friend.. TF2 pyro pouch. http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5508/1061 ... 8693_c.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5537/1061 ... 71a4_c.jpg http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3680/1061 ... 0488_c.jpg (left as links not to hi-jack the thread) did a TF2 sniper ammo pouch too I'm no leatherworker, that one was only the 3rd pouch I've ever made. I'ts pretty straight forward once you learn the proper stitching method. should really do a write-up. Just an idea.. least you can then make it exactly to your specs
  16. As regards to colour I think I've found what I need. I've been told it's a rustoleum antique brass but you can't get that colour in the uk so the closest I've found this morning is a plasti-kote antique gold. Been told with a black wash to dull the finish that should be ideal. Still would like detail on how to make the back piece though, the rest of the armour is being made from HIPS/ABS plastic
  17. Hey all, I am hopefully in the next few weeks getting hold of a custom made revan costume. It's made by someone in the UK which works out well for me and having spoke to a few people the picture examples look pretty good and the price was reasonable so am hoping, with some minor modifications, it'll be clearable The problem I have is it only comes with the breastplate, not the back piece. I have tried searching the forums for anyone who's made their own and what methods they used but I haven't had a lot of luck. I asked the person about making one and they said they haven't and didn't want to spend time making something that's never seen so looks like I'll have to make it myself. And in that comes my question.. does anyone have any information/threads on how you would make the backpiece? I guess one method would be to sculpt it onto a mannequin and van form some abs. only 2 problems with that.. no mannequin and no vac former - its not something im against getting however, i do have some pegboard and a few other 'items' in my watch list on ebay to make a homemade one, but is it worth it for one use? another would be fibreglass, but how to sculpt the detail effectively? any help would be much appreciated. when the costume parts arrive i'll get it all together and post up some pics.. fingers crossed its as accurate as im told. thanks edit: one another thing which i may find once i start searching but what colour should the armour parts be? what colour do most people use? if i know this i can tell the person making the parts for me and they can ensure the same colour. will make making the back piece easier as well. thanks again
  18. sounds like a fiddle. the petit crouton has a simple 'sound off' feature. you hold the aux button until you hear a beep then ignite the blade. it'll have light but no sound. once you turn it off the next time you ignite it it'll have the sound re-enabled (unless you hold the aux button again of course) no mess no fuss i would imagine the CF boards would have the same feature (I just don't have experience with any other board to confirm that)
  19. you could easily argue light side considering as empire you have to fight him and as republic you save him in the storylines. says light side to me
