  1. Comm-Tower Spotlights: July 2019 We’re pleased to introduce you to The Flagship Eclipse member SL-12716; otherwise known as Darth Shinzu. Darth Shinzu is from Garrison Carida in Pennsylvania, US , and is our TFE Member in the spotlight for this month’s Newsletter! He took some time to have a chat with Lynnae/Lissakins our TFE HR Officer. Lissahkins: Thanks for your time to do this little interview Darth Shinzu! DS: No problem! I am super happy to be in TFE finally. Lissah: OH? DS: YES! I think this is the best detachment because all the cool costumes are here in TFE. Lissah: I AGREE FULLY! On that note where did you start out with the 501st? What was your first costume? DS: Sandtrooper was my first costume with the 501st in about 2016. I have been wanting to dress as SOMETHING from Star Wars forever, but kinda stumbled on my Pennsylvania garrison. I had no idea what I was doing building a costume but they got me pointed in the right direction. Lissah: That is awesome. I think a lot of us got started that way. I know I did, lol! What made you want to do the Starkiller: Dark Lord's Armor (Hoth) ? DS: I LOVED The Force Unleashed and instantly fell in love with the character. I would have gone with that from the beginning if I knew it was an option. But, as you know, starting off in the 501st we don't always know ALL the costumes that can be done. I also have a tusken and jawa but I really had to do this costume. Now that I have it I almost want to sleep in it! HAHA! Lissah: Yeaaahhh that might not be too comfortable with the armored pieces but I get the sentiment. LOL! DS: He just has so much cool stuff, Starkiller is definitely my ultimate costume. I want to make the desert version next. Lissah: We have people in our group that have done that one too, so ask for advice if you need it (that goes for all you readers as well). Lissah: Did you have any costume experience before the sandy? DS: NOPE! None, I started out blind. Now I am here ahah making plans for more. Lissah: Speaking of, how did you go about building Starkiller? DS: Well, it was a lot of research. Looking at the costume in the game from every angle. Then getting parts made either by hand or with 3d print files. It was a long process but I think completely worth it! I was able to even find things in the game that were details left off the CRL- which made approval a little harder but in the end I had a more accurate and visually appealing costume. (above)- Working on the helmet. (below) - some of the belt and saber assembly. Lissah: Dang, that is a lot of great work. I know we are all very pleased when we can take all that detail work and turn it into something awesome. Great job! The attention to detail won't go unnoticed, it always makes for a more impressive costume. Lissah: What was the first troop you did with your Starkiller costume? DS: Adamstown Library- it was a lot of fun. Lissah: Any stand out favorite troops so far? DS: Probably the Lehigh Valley Comic Con because people recognized my costume and were super excited to talk about it. Kids don't usually recognize Starkiller, but their parents will, LOL! I love that. Even if only one person recognizes it- that is a success. Lissah: Awesome! I really appreciate you taking the time to talk to me today. Can't wait to see your progress with more TFE Costumes! Darth Shinzu: Thank you! I am happy to help and can't wait to get to know everyone.
  2. Comm-Tower Spotlights: May 2019 We’re pleased to introduce you to The Flagship Eclipse member DZ-33742; otherwise known as Lindsay Bertrand / DocAphra! LIndsay is our TFE Member in the spotlight for this month’s Newsletter! She took some time to have a chat with Lynnae / Lissahkins, one of TFE's HR Officers. Lissahkins: Thanks for taking the time to chat with me, Lindsay. How was your May the 4th? Lindsay: CRAZY! I tried to do 3 days worth of trooping and ended up getting to do the big troop at the aquarium, and that marked the 1 year anniversary of our garrison on May the 4th. IT WAS HUGE AND CROWDED, crazy and my kids and husband were not amused, but way fun for me. We got to meet a penguin as a garrison as a treat from the Aquarium. But I did trooping on May 2nd 3rd and 4th! HAHA! Lissahkins: Dang thats a lot of trooping lady! We have something like that here, "The Gauntlet" and its NUTS, lol! Lindsay: 1000 miles of trooping in 3 days! *insert the 500 miles song here* Lissahkins: That is one huge amount of trooping in 3 days, haha! Lissahkins: What was your first legion costume? Aphra? Lindsay: Aphra was the first costume. I had my "Ebay Rey" that was kind of the test into the waters, trying to see if I wanted to do it getting out of my comfort zone. So Rey was the first but Aphra was my first Legion. Lissahkins: How long after " Ebay Rey" did you get your TFE costume approved? Lindsay: started building Aphra after Louisville Super Con. I had gotten everything with Aphra together (mostly) for the next con, got added to a group for newbies to build and get going on my costume and trooping. I had everything ready by January at Fankfurt Con. Almost cried when our Vader wanted a pic with me! I WAS SO EXCITED! APHRA AND VADER TOGETHER! But that is how I met a lot of people was thru my approval process including Nina and Erika. Got REAL Rey done not to long after that in April haha! I also have Admiral Holdo done just have to make some corrections and that'll be done too! Lissahkins: It's so great when you get into a group that feels like they are welcoming you and helping out. It sounds like youre doing a lot of costumes now across all legions thats so awesome! Lissahkins: What would your dream TFE costume be?? Lindsay: Well Aphra is now my favorite because I did so much research and we have so much in common personality wise. I love that she was hacking things, stealing parts, and scavenging. So a lot like Rey but I don't get the constant comparisons to other Reys where there are a ton of them. I get to be myself and I really feel in my skin as her. Learning about her in the comics and interacting with everyone, constantly back and forth and playing both sides of the coin. I love it! Lissahkins: I can totally understand that. Aphra is definitely a unique costume that not a lot of people do. Kind of the reason why I picked Visas for myself. It's so different! Lissahkins: Doesn't necessarily have to be TFE related- but who is your favorite Canon or Non-Canon Star Wars Character and why? Lindsay: 100% kylo ren. I love him, he's my boy. I am totally making a Kylo Ren Mando next! HAHAHAHA! Lissahkins: As someone who has multiple costumes, what do you think is the best way to get started on the dream costume? Lindsay: Throw yourself into it and do all the things. Ask for help, I got a lot of help from Nina and others in the TFE staff while I was building Aphra. I can't thank them enough for pointing me to the right path. Lissahkins: Our staff does their best to help out where we can. Thank you so much for taking the time to work with me for this interview!
  3. Lissahkins: Thanks for taking the time to chat with me, Michael. To start off with, how did you find out about the Legion and the Flagship Eclipse? Michael: with 501st legion they've been around a long time- I loved star wars, even as a kid. I watched all the Star Wars videos ON TAPE as a kid. Then my sister got into the rebel legion and 501st legion in 2007- at the time there was not a Flagship Eclipse because at the time everything that is now EU was the canon of the time. So I didn't really "find" TFE until I made my Starkiller Costume. LK: Sounds like what happened to me, I didn't know what TFE really was until later on. What was your first 501st costume? Michael: Well after my sister introduced me to the legion - I decided on an Imperial Officer. It's one of those iconic costumes that is easier to get in with - because there's not a whole lot to it, just sourcing the boots etc can be a bit difficult. LK: How long after did you get your TFE costume approved? Michael:A few years later when my family decided to get a PS2 we got Star Wars The Force Unleashed- which as you know, features my costume. In fact, had we not gotten the PS2 I would not have gotten the version of my costume that I have in Flagship as it was a Playstation exclusive for Starkiller. A the time I made my costume there were only 16 of us with my specific costume, now there are only 10, I think that still are around. Makes it a very unique and exclusive costume club. LK: Yeah, when I finally figured out what costume I wanted it kinda fell into The Flagship Eclipse, little did I know it would consume my life for the better- HAHA! LK: What would your dream TFE costume be?? Michael: Ooooh now, there's games that have come out and other canon and non canon to pull from...I think Revan would be the next go to for me. EVERYONE loves REVAN. Let's make Revan canon! Lk: We may actually get that with the Star Wars the Old Republic movie trilogy announcement at SWCC- that would be amazing! We all want Revan! LK: Doesn't necessarily have to be TFE related- but who is your favorite Canon or Non-Canon Star Wars Character and why? Michael: Out of sheer power of what we have seen in books/movie/video game on the dark side Nihilus because DUH consumer of worlds...but as far as most balanced power in cunning/combat/force etc- two that I love are Revan and Starkiller. Starkiller pulling down an entire ship and ripping apart that is so cool. But for presence wise- Kylo/Vader and Nihilus for their physical look and presence in the scenes they're in. They're just so ominous! LK: As someone who has multiple costumes, what do you think is the best way to get started on the dream costume? Michael: Do whatever you have the resources for, but figure out what motivates you. Look at what you have around you and gets your wheels turning kinda like Starkiller and Kylo did for me. ALWAYS CHECK THE REFERENCES. GET ALL THE REFERENCE PHOTOS. LEAKED FOOTAGE. WATCH THINGS A MILLION TIMES to build it the right way the first time. May take a lot of time and help- but you can do with money or skill- it doesn't matter. Just do what you love! LK: Absolutely, and doing what we love is what we are all about here. Thank you for talking to me today Michael! Let us know when you are ready to Revan it up! If you are interested in being interviewed for a future issue, you can email PR@TheFlagshipEclipse.com.
  4. Welcome friend! We know a few Aphras that can help you. A good place to start would be here where Nina pointed out, and also request access to the ladies of the legions fb. Theres a lot of good costumers there as well that can assist you in finding someone or at least giving you guidelines to follow if you end up doing things yourself or you need specific details. Hope you can join us soon!
  5. Welcome Utah friend! Can't wait for you to join us! Was good to see you and Bastila in passing at FanX
