  1. Please let us know if you do come up with something. Very congrats on your application!
  2. Alan I think you can complete the cross section by pinning the excess tucked fabric in the middle of your chest. While I agree that you could probably lower the fabric on your shoulders a smidge, and perhaps lower your ring a bit, let me say this: This is one of the best 'first wear' posts I have seen. The rings are a highly-recommended first change, but not contingent on approval. To get approved I would: -Fix the shirt issue (ribbing and zipper deal) -Get the shoulder-cape to sit just a little lower. -Get some of your spare shoulder fabric meeting in the center of your chest. I am actually curious if you trimmed the fabric, I notice you actually attached the fabric to the rings. (Mine isn't, it's tucked and folded and right up against it.) -Lower the ring The ONLY 'hacking' you should need to do is for putting new hooks in, I'll take a gob of pictures when I do SL-82082's for his, and show everyone how I did it. And the thing is, that's not needed for approval. Fix the above and you should get LMO approval in no time.
  3. If I 'had' to choose between the two for myself, I would go with the darker one of the two, despite the CRL. I feel like it is going to be closer to any of the other grays on your costume and not stand out as a stark different material, which, it probably shouldn't be a drastic difference from the rest of the costume. Unfortunately there is not much in the way of source material on the boots. Images are few and far between that actually show a boot. If I had to color match it to any part of the armor I would go with the large O-ring or the pieces supporting it. Even then I'm not entirely convinced as to whether it should be a color match or not. This falls under my stance on "using shaded skins to define detail/depth in a game with minimal lighting mechanics".
  4. Very cool idea, I am a fan of the Academy, even though I don't have any kids (yet). My mom always did neat costumes for me, neat to see other parents doing it too. Please keep posting awesome pics!
  5. I will preempt my message with this: Holy crud that is flippin' awesome, fantastic work. I don't think we have an official CRL or other standard out there yet for Malgus. Even still I'd want to see full body shots, and compare with some good source material in order to get it all lined up. Then do a point by point comparison just for awesomeness. Why? For science! (And getting some standards lined up).
  6. My balaclava is sewn 2/3 - 1/2 the way around the front of my shirt, the rear is left open for stretching around my oversized noggin. For suiting up I pull the thing down not covering my face, on the off chance I'm in a parking lot, to minimize chance of a 911 call (Still happens from time to time). Turtle neck is a good option too. Love all the rest of your change ideas. Rob's work is great but tweaking it for personal comfort and appearance is what it is all about. It was super-duper cold on my last troop, so I wore a hoodie (it's what I had) under my underarmour. I've also taken a black sweater I have and worn it over my underarmour. Thankfully the chest works as a great windblock.
  7. Was 30 degrees, felt like 12, we got the Raptor to join us, and had a really great troop despite the cold. I also get to put in my app at the Kilted Trooper Brigade now.
  8. This goes here. Was 30 degrees F. Felt like 12.
  9. Good luck, Sir! MTFBWY! That is about right for having someone do a saber for you custom, after you factor in parts, then add in labor.
  10. Wise words Kevin. I don't carry mine very often, and when I do it's kind of annoying, there is no where to put them. I suggest using lots of Force Lightning and Force Chokes for photos. Or general broodiness.
  11. Hey guys, Definitely not the first time for this topic. Here is a link to our image gallery, in it you will find shots for Revan's saber, as well as the generic Kotor sabers: http://www.theflagshipeclipse.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=27 It'd probably be up for discussion, but I suspect that if your single-bladed saber with a red blade matched as close as possible to one of those models, you would most likely be in compliance with standards. (Hooray generic statement) The Custom Saber Shop has a really great saber-building application on their site (this is me not endorsing them specifically). There is also a decent forum community there where you could meet saber builders, as well as learn how to do stuff for yourself. I strongly considered building my own, but I found someone to do mine. He used the saber builder though and generated a model. I would start with a render first, find something and get it AS CLOSE as possible. After all, it should look like it just came off the set. That's the goal.
  12. The only comments I have are purely cosmetic and in the nature of professional-type shots, not functional wear; so I won't mention them. The fact is fabric moves, a lot, so unless you stay in the same position the entire troop, it just won't stay 'video game perfect'. I feel like you've made all the changes needed for an approval. As it is, I've chased Tusken Raiders through rooms of people before, so I know how the costume moves, you've got a great setup to troop in. I'm happy to see you moving forward with the changes as we go along. We'll get those hooks set up in April. It'll be great to meet you in person.
  13. Just doing a quick glance myself, I would hold the two pieces you have up to the source images. Using multiple images to be sure you're right on point with the shade. Then, compare the vest and the fabric. Which one is closer? If it's the fabric, is it possible you can get the leather closer via dyes? If it's the fabric, maybe a dye, or getting a different fabric. The leather seems to have a lot more red in it which I like, whereas the fabric seems to have a nice contrasting brown look to it. I like both, but I don't think they look close enough to be the "same material".
  14. Please do Hashbrown. I've ironed my pleats on a few occassions, but am lazy so I will likely do that, and perhaps some liquid stitch used on men's trousers, had Men's Wearhouse do it last time I bought some pants.
  15. I'd be a little concerned about your safety with your sash and hakama so low. Otherwise no, just fix the rings somehow. Everything else seems to line up nicely. Should be able to do some submittal photos real easy.
  16. Told Bastila I had to stay late at work. Don't let her know...
  17. Sounds great. I'll let you even get a close look on some of my stuff if you need. I've found the spots that annoy me most and velcro'd a handful of them, makes for faster donning as well. As for the bracers, it 'might' mess up the paint (just a simple repaint right?) but you might try a heatgun, protecting your arms with some fabric and remolding them to your arms. I did something similar while wearing a hoodie, a heat-gun and some mandalorian armor plates. It's an idea, as it's plastic not metal, you could perhaps heat and reshape. If you do any addition I'd do it on the inside and somehow find a way to hide it as best as possible.
  18. Thanks Ken, Kris I'd be happy to call/skype something if you need help between now and Planet Comicon. As it is, there's a whole month to shoot some photos and get them spot on for submission. I'm a pretty impatient guy when I really want to get something done, so if you want some help I'm totally game to work with you long-distance if you need some help. Here's the worst-case scenario: We meet up at Planet Comicon, I'll bring my hobby knife and hot-glue gun. I'll also bring a decent camera(not my phone) and get you squared away 100%. Either way we can get you approved super-easy, we just need to make some tweaks. So I pass the ball to you: would you like to attend PCC as a member perhaps? Or shall we meet up at PCC and finish everything there? Your call dude, we're on the home-stretch.
  19. I'm currently discussing this with the LMO. If anyone would like to post links/images of this particular portion please do so and I will include them in the conversation. Remember the sources need to be an actual source as opposed to fan-art. It is my impression that the pieces are colored so as to create a false impression of light/detailing in a low-render game so that the character appears to be lighted, despite the lack of in-game lighting. This is achieved by the silverly look we see on the renders. I bring it into question because when you also look at the same model, you can see the 'black' cape/hood/hakama with sections that are also of the same color as the details on the curiass. I believe the best solution to be the use of the word 'or'. As in black OR silver being allowed, as I'm not contesting that our main image is of a silvery coloring.
  20. Really looks like it is coming together. Definitely one of the pictures I liked from that book. Keep up the pics! Fun to watch the progression.
  21. Nice upgrade. Once done with my mando I'll likely have to make this change. Good choice in ring.
  22. We should take this elsewhere. But I'll disagree wholeheartedly on the grounds that it's a false lighting and that means changing other items on the costume too, to include the shoulder caping, shirt, hakama and others.
