New Ventress in NC

Alright, I don't really know the AotC concept in detail. Yeah, it should be a little bit mor attached to the arms. It isn't looking bad now just a little bit big. More like "arm boots" than thin lightweight pleather.

But your progress looks really good.

@Daritha - lol I like that expression. Arm boots definately seems to fit.

Picked up some different pleather for one of my daughters cosplay outfits and I should have enough left over to remake them with a different fit, possibly with a zipper instead of wrapping them. We shall see! :)

It's coming along nicely Lisa. Hopefully Ventress, Nihilus and Visas can hang out at a Carolina Garrison event soon.

I'd tried a zipper for my Starkiller once (I must wrap a lot around the arms and legs) and it didn't work quite good. The best thing is wrapping, indeed. But maybe you have more luck with leather than me with my fabric.

Well I figured today I'd better get some practice in on the make-up and do a dress rehearsal. Hopefully Saturday morning will go better than my 3 and half hours of playing around. :P

Bracers3.jpg

New bracers in a lighter material and new cut with zippers.

I like the cut of the skirts with the tiered levels.. some of the reference photos show a shorter skirt. However I think next skirt will be in linen blend instead of heavy cotton gauze. Should lay and flow better.

And finally...

I know.. I need to fix the background. Just need to figure out what color I should use for it. :) I need to refit the shoulders as well before Saturday so they stay down all the way around. After that I think I'm going to remake it in the lighter material I used for the bracers and sew it to the bodysuit.

As for the make-up. I know it looks like I have none on in the pic.. probably the flash washing it out or the saber adding some glow.. but its there. I used a liquid color called Blythe by ben nye. Sort of a bluish white. My youngest says it looks white. I'm thinking it looks blue. I have a cake of white so I'm going to play with that and see what I like better.

This is all looking really good! The bracers are much improved over the previous versions.

I found the collar to be the most difficult part of the costume to create and make fit properly. And yeah, I think you'll have no choice but to sew it to the shirt in order to make it snug up right without any gaps.

It might be showing this way just for the pictures, but I would suggest applying a layer of foundation makeup to the bald cap before applying the grey to even out the colouring.

Are you debuting your Ventress at a convention this weekend?

Yes indeed I am debuting her this weekend for the Durham Life and Sciences Museum Event. They have an event called 'Heroes, Villains and Special Effects' and I figured she'd be perfect for it.

The pictures really don't show the make-up too well. I'll have to see if I can get better ones on Saturday. I did put a layer of foundation on and then the grey on top of it. You can't see it too well but the edge was giving me all sorts of problems. I think I've figured out what to do now as I didn't apply acetone to the front egde to help blend it in before the latex was applied. So hopefully I can get it right tomorrow. If not.. there's supposed to be a make-up specialist there that I can ask pointers from. :)

I know its been a few months since I've posted updates. Holidays were a bit busy for me.

Things I've touched up on the AOTC version...

- Remade the shoulders and attached them to the bodysuit.

- Remade the belt in a less shiny material

- Remade the skirt with pleats instead of gathered. Attached a small piece of velcro behind the buckle to keep it from sliding down.

Other than getting a photo in make-up I think this one is ready for submission. Opinions? Comments? Suggestions for improvements?

I really like youre shirt :D

I also like the skirt with the overskirt. It looks very flowing and full. :)

Don't forget to post pictures when you have done the total make-up

Good job!! :D:D

For what it's worth, only two things jump out at me:

The collar is a touch long in my opinion, I would shorten it by removing the bottom-most band.

The sleeves seem a little loose around the arms and I would snug them up a bit.

Looking good!

Kath-

Both of those are easy to fix. Now that you point out the sleeves.. I can't believe I didn't see that before.

Thanks,

Lisa

Yep! They're there.. just posing at an odd angle to see them. Here's a link to the album I have most of my photos in so far. Included are my submission photos so you can see front, back, and sides.

I need to add some new ones of the white version as well as its almost done. Just need to add the collar that we all love and adore, some touches to the skirt to keep it on my waist without a pin and redo the front panels in a lighter leather so its not a safety hazard anymore.

OK, cool, the ones above the ear were just further back than I'm used to seeing them, but their size and position varied quite a bit in the various references. :)

This one is my favorite:
