Introduction

I put this in the Introductions thread but I am not sure it was actually seen.

Allow me to introduce myself. I am known by many as Shiyan and those who know me, know that I am a fan of the Saga. I will leave this brief for now because I have been looking into the 501st but am having a difficult time determining if the character I wish to create will be accepted in the 501st. I have found a listing for the Sith Acolyte that looks similar to what I was looking for but the name is not quite right. My idea is from the SWTOR era and is a Sith Marauder. Dual lightsaber wielding Sith Warrior that becomes the Rage of the Emperor in The Old Republic time. Is this accepted or can it be considered to be accepted? I am starting to build the costume so I have nothing to provide picture wise as to what it will look like. So far, I have the lightsabers but that is all at this point. Any help you folks can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

Hello and welcome !

I'm looking forward to see your progress on the costume, I'm a big fan of Star Wars myself, and specially of the Old Republic era that I find too unknown and unrepresented. The new MMO game designs are awesome, are you making the one from this game ?

I'm far from being a specialist, I cannot tell you if it will be accepted, but it's an excellent initiative and I really hope it would work

Sorry you did not get a reply sooner, you should have. Life's been a bit crazy following the election and a big banquet this weekend.

Sadly I must report that custom characters such as what you're describing do not meet the 501st qualifications for approval.

The costume must be of an official character and their official costume.

For example, if you had concept art and game art with Vette, in a particular flight suit outfit that was printed and/or what she is seen with in game normally, that would be fine. But if you put her in Darth Malak's outfit, that would not.

More in line with what you've described though, Darth Marr would likely be a great candidate for what you mentioned, and we do not currently have any. It would take a lot of work, but no more than making the character you described I would suspect.

Additionally, I believe that the Emperor would be a great candidate for a costume and a bit interesting to make look rough/scary as well as allow you to see. :P

If you do have your heart set on this particular character, that is totally understandable, and I would suggest you check out the Dark Empire, another Star Wars costuming club, known to work with us from time to time in some locations. They will have guidelines for making a character like that.

Alternatively you could always look to make one of the many many characters we offer and we'd love to have you.

My suggestion is to go with what your heart really tells you you want to do. Whatever it is, find something that you can be passionate about and make something that the whole world will want to see (or a bunch of really excited Star Wars fans at the very least. :) )

Good sir Darth Tagion, you say a Darth Marr?! You mean to tell me no one has done this costume (it IS a costume that COULD potentially be canon approvable) and it would be a Legion 1st? Now that is an impressive costume.....*really temped to do it*

Ah... I want to make a Revan so bad, but we have an amazing Revan in our Garrison (I know that shouldnt stop me)

Yes, to all of the above. Full models are there, he's in comics, more importantly, you can see all of the costume via the game and given the right application, it would be doable.

I am confused. Why would Darth Marr be acceptable but a Marauder wouldn't be? There are Sith Acolytes but the only difference between that look and a Marauder is 2 sabers instead of one.

Based on the original post, it appears to be a custom character, which aren't approved in the 501st, but are in the Dark Empire.

Darth Marr, while from the MMO, chock-full of custom characters, is an NPC, with an established story and appearance. (Also appears in some of the comics)

The reason I suggested him specifically (though Baras, and all of the Dark Council would also be viable) is because his gear is also worn by a Sith Marauder if you get the appropriate raid/pvp gear (I forget which set it is, I believe it is the PVP set).

It would be a way to work within the system and still get a desired appearance.

In the case of something similar to the Sith Acolyte, I would encourage finding an NPC within the game that has the look desired and make that, down to the last detail, for approval. Still, I would suggest submitting photos and such before beginning to ensure that it is 501st approvable, if that's what was desired.

Excellent explanation. I greatly appreciate it.
