  2. VERY NICE START! KEEP IT UP! LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING MORE!
  3. I just had to post this up! I just finished watching the MOST FANTASTIC video on YouTube of a Darth Malgus costumer I'VE EVER SEEN! This costume is INCREDIBLE!!! ABSOLUTELY THE BEST REPRESENTATION OF MALGUS I'VE EVER SEEN!!!! Watch the video, & you'll see what I mean! Here's a link - I believe Darth Serberus is a member of this forum too. You can also check out his WIP thread on the RPF! Here's a link, in case you're interested! http://www.therpf.com/f24/darth-malgus- ... -a-175398/ I've been following this build for quite some time now over on the RPF, & it's WITHOUT A DOUBT THE BEST BUILD OF THIS CHARACTER I'VE EVER SEEN! Maybe Darth Serberus will post a reply on this thread. Either way, I felt compelled to share this with everyone! ENJOY!
  4. Glad you like it so far! I'll definitely post pics once I get the armor done. As far as the process I'm talking about with the foam, I found out about this technique on the RPF. The guy who posted about this there has a link that he shared in his thread. ANYONE interested in using EVA foam for costume armor SHOULD DEFINITELY CHECK THIS LINK OUT! There's even a link to a youtube video that shows the process on this link. Here it is. ENJOY! http://www.xrobots.co.uk/coating/
  5. Hi all. Been lurking around here for quite some time. Some of you may know me from some of the posts & pics of my son's Lord Starkiller costume that's been an ongoing work in progress for the last few years. I thought I'd start a thread here to log the progress on my latest build, a Sith Acolyte from TOR. Currently, I've just gotten started on this build, even though I've been in the planning & gathering stages for quite some time. I obtained 2 different Acolyte masks from different makers on here, (Mynock & slave1pilot - aka Anchorhead Outpost). I'm thinking about doing both the basic Acolyte, as well as Lord Adraas, since the only major difference seems to be the mask. I've got one of Mynock's pre-painted basic Acolyte mask, which is nice, & QUITE DURABLE I might add! So far my only real serious progress is with the Lord Adraas mask, which I obtained from Anchorhead Outpost. I finally sat down last weekend and painted & weathered the mask. I have yet to decide how I'm going to mount the elastic strap to hold the mask to my face, but I think the paint job at least turned out quite well. I'll include some pics here of the mask as it stands right now. Enjoy the pics! I've also obtained the gloves that quite a few have been using for their builds. I picked them up from Home Depot. I don't have pics yet, but I'm also working on a custom saber for this costume. The basis for my saber is Ultrasabers rather Sithy looking War Glaive, for those who are familiar, with some other TCSS parts added. I'm adding my own soundboard, a Petit Crouton, as well. My armor will be made from EVA foam, which I recently picked up in several thicknesses. I plan on using Modge Podge to seal the foam, & then use Smooth-Cast 65D liquid plastic to give the armor a nice plastic coating that can be painted & weathered without worry that it will look like foam. I'm also in the planning stages with my local seamstress to get started on the hooded robe, so hopefully that will be underway shortly! Hopefully work on the armor will begin within the next week or so, if all goes well! It's sometimes hard to find time to devote to these projects! Everyday life seems to have a way of getting in the way at times! Hopefully I will get there sooner rather than later, but money & time seem to have a way of dictating how fast or slow this process works! More progress & pics to come!
  6. VERY NICE! I love working on stuff like this with my kids too! Keep up the good work!
  7. GREAT JOB so far guys! I'm gearing up to get started on my build, so hopefully this CRL will be done soon! So far I've acquired the mask & lightsaber. I'm getting ready to start looking at fabric! Can't wait for the weather to get nice, so I can SERIOUSLY get underway on this! Keep up the good work!
  8. VERY NICE! I'm LOVING the look! CAN'T WAIT to see this completed! GREAT JOB so far!
  9. VERY NICE! Some of the best I've seen!
  10. Hello there, & WELCOME! I believe there are only 1 or possibly 2 people who have this costume Legion approved so far. As a result, I don't believe the CRL has been written yet. I've actually been working on & off for a number of years on this costume for my son. He'll be 18 in just over a year, at which point we'll be submitting his application for 501st approval. Hopefully someone who's more in the know than me may be able to let you know what the status is with the CRL for this. I'm interested to hear some updated info. on the CRL for this myself! Perhaps Pam or someone else will see this & chime in! Glad to see someone else is also working on this costume, as it is one of my favorites! Good luck with your build! I look forward to seeing some pics! I'll include a pic of my son's costume, so you can see what we've done. Enjoy, & let me know if I can be of assistance.
  11. Although I'm not an expert on this particular version of Starkiller that you're working on, the boots in your link do look similar to those in some of the reference images I've seen. I'm sure you may have to modify them a bit, to more closely match the look, color, etc..., I think they'll probably work. Someone else with more knowledge of this version of the costume may want to chime in on this. I will vouch for these being a good base to start from, based on my own experience with these exact boots. I ordered a pair from Amazon.com myself for my son's Sith Lord Starkiller costume. I had to modify them quite a bit, but they've held up fairly well so far. We've had them for approx. 2 years now, & they've seen a lot of use at countless conventions, as well as other local troops. Hope this helps!
  12. I've actually been contemplating doing the same thing for my build. I used this same material to make my son's Starkiller armor. It worked great for that, & I've still got quite a bit of the foam left over. I'll be curious to see additional progress pics, to see how you complete your armor. Thanks for the inspiration!
  13. All I can say is WOW! The detail on this is AMAZING! I'm already in on getting one of your masks. I may have to get in on your armor run too, once you're at that stage! GREAT & AMAZING WORK! KEEP IT UP! CAN'T WAIT to see more!
  14. Another small update. I got the new fabric for Nick's new Starkiller suit. The seamstress & I ended up deciding on a shiny polyester. It's actually jacket lining material. It's got the sheen I think will look good, especially once it's been quilted. I have an appointment set up with the seamstress this weekend, so hopefully we can get the ball rolling on this costume redo/upgrade. Nick & I will be going to NYCC in a few weeks, & it would be nice if his new suit is ready in time! Not sure this is realistically going to happen, but it'd be nice nonetheless! Once this upgrade is done, I'll be sure to post pics for everyone to see. At the very least, this upgrade should be complete by Halloween!
  15. FANTASTIC! BRILLIANT WORK! I especially like the pommel! I've enjoyed watching this slowly take shape! Keep it up!
  16. Just received my mask in the mail today! All I can say is AWESOME! Thanks so much! I'll post pics when I get a chance!
  17. AWESOME! Looks GREAT! I'm gearing up to start building one of these myself! VERY WELL DONE!
  18. IMPRESSIVE! MOST IMPRESSIVE! I caught a glimpse of you at the Con. Wish I could have gotten a chance to stop & chat, but with everything going on, it was not to be. NICE costume nonetheless! YOU HAVE DONE WELL MY YOUNG APPRENTICE!
