  1. very nice! like the updated armor.
  2. just sent it to my GML, but I wanted to gather some opinions here too. as of today, I have modified the hood to get rid of that corner - I was trying to get the right size before I hemmed it. costume based mostly on this pic: (Edit - modified pics for post) and here's more if you want to look at specific parts http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2 ... c3ee551efe
  3. I'd like to note that I'm currently working on the same costume so I, unfortunately, have to be a bit nitpickey. also since I am making the same costume I'd appreciate if Thomas or Pam would correct me if they disagree. the hood looks a bit large, like the top of the armor and your head both dissapear within it. I'm not sure where your cape ends, at either the top or the bottom. I'm not sure how far down it reaches, since one pic is angled and the other two don't show the hem. I'm not sure where it ends at the top - in all of the references it's just barely covering the top of the chest armor but on yours I can't even see it. I don't think there's a curve to the tops of the shoulder armor - I think it's more fett and less stormtrooper. your belt looks right, but I have 2 issues. For one it's too tight - it slacks down on his right side in almostevery reference, and for another I'm just not sure what to make of the center buckle - it kinda matches the reference, at least in appearance, but I was pretty sure they were supposed to be 2 anakin style snap-buckles I agree with pam on the bootspats. The gloves just look... odd to me. like they're ski or winter gloves and overly padded. not a serious issue but if it were me I'd change them. I would like to note that I love everything else - skirt, cape, sash, the sizing, etc and I'd love to see what you do with it.
  4. the best way I've found to rip something when making my nihilus was to put the fabric between a hard surface and a wood rasp, keep pressure on the rasp and just pull the fabric out. works brilliantly. I'd suggest you try it in addition to your burning.
  5. I had thought of it once but could never find this much data on it, this is awesome! good luck!
  6. at most I can offer an educated guess. I think it's a hook at the top and then held verticle by magnets at the bottom on the waist strap (the square thing with 4 silver dots - looks like a domino) he would break the pull of the magnet and then lift up which presumably could be what he's doing. it doesn't touch the D-rings on the pec at all but it does touch the 2 horizontal straps. just what I was thinking I'd do for it...
  7. correct sir! I took note of the clasps as well: thing is they don't meet the seam at all, so either its like a button or like a magnet.
  8. you do get a good look at his boots when he whips his cloak back after the rancor lands - they're a wrapped boot identical to his training gear from the first one. the shirt is a vneck like you said, with tshirt length sleeves (the wraps and sleeves don't meet) he has 3 pouches all together - 1 right thigh, 1 upper right back hip, 1 upper left side hip. he has hand plates strapped on over the black gloves (you can see the strap running through his hand.) the hanging pouch on his right thigh has a strap that runs around his thigh. the shoulder armor has 2 pieces, the main curved hemisphere and a small keystone shaped piece dangling over the shoulder joint. I'd post all of my pics but I took upwards of 40 or 50 screenshots, so I'll leave you with a few to make my points.
  9. wow those are awesome! got a tutorial for them or maybe a list of parts?
  10. if you were to submit it as it is in those pictures I can tell you a few things right off the bat. the gloves are too short. it looks like they only come up to his wrists where in the reference pic it's almost elbow length. the skirt is too short. that may change when it's on you instead, but it's supposed to be draping far enough to touch the ground. in addition it doesn't seem to have enough bulk too it - in the reference there is what appears to be a TON of fabric hanging there. on the costume, not so much - just enough to cover it seems. need a clear shot of how the cape attaches. right now his hood covers the anchoring point so I couldn't tell you if it's safe or not. the hood doesn't have enough shape. it looks very thrown on in that photo and I know from experience the hood is a sticking point and admittedly makes the costume. in his favor: the mask looks excellent! right shape, right paint, and a very cool face layer. if it were me I'd get his mask and make or commission my own costume, but in my opinion his costume could use a lot of work.
  11. just watched this video **Spoiler warning** I'm getting more and more tempted to do this costume... ya know, tusken was just my fall back costume after I failed nihilus the first time. could it be I've grown to love them?
  12. http://starwars.com/games/videogames/ne ... index.html huh... I've never been more tempted to do a more obscure costume.... is he... disguised as a tusken? *scratches head* interesting...
  13. cannon vs noncannon - the question of the ages.... if I recall correctly its mentioned in the book when he's having the halucination about his inner darkness and light butting heads. so while the alternate ending is a non-cannon ending, since it's represented in his dream the person who added that believes it then becomes cannon. for a better point of reference it would be as cannon as a headless vader from the swamp scene in ep5. personally I would love to agree with him, but it really comes down to the command staff when it comes to doing the costume and Lucas himself when it comes to everything else.
  14. *in best Dr.Evil voice* evil fairy wings?
  15. which means you're estimating 2 years to finish yours? I hought it looked pretty darn close to begin with
  16. wow, where'd ya dig up this old fossil? I had never seen this - I'm very impressed, and thanks for bumping it...
  17. about your "confidence" I honestly hadn't noticed that when we met at C4. Like you said a bit ago - we're two of a kind, dropping a project and comming back to it later. I have confidence you can finish it - just save the stuff aside and come back to it.
  18. that's awesome bud - I'm always impressed with your work!
  19. heh, check out what I just found! http://kotaku.com/photogallery/cosplay2nycc-/1006844239
  20. VERY good job as always pam! I'm curious as to how do you put it on? is there a zipper somewhere or is it just large enough to slip on without the sash?
