Sash Belt version

Hello all :)

I'm still quite new in here, but I think I've decided to make an Asajj Ventress Sash Belt version. I will be using her primarily for a big event we have here in DK called "LegoWorld" in which we run a fighting arena for a full four days span and the children can take turns in fighting against us. It's very physically demanding  but lots of fun too

The thing is, I'm one of those lucky women who sweat. A lot. When exercising. Will I be able to keep the bald cap in place, and what makeup/things to use will help me keep my bald head best, when considering I -will- be sweating a lot :P

Also, living in smaaaaaall Denmark, I know I probably have to look abroad for fabrics and stuff, but with English not being my first language, sometimes I have trouble finding the fabric I'm actually thinking of when searching only.

Anyone with any fabric suggestions, places to buy etc?

All help will be appreciated!!! :)

Hi,

I'll leave the fabric recommendations to the girls who have made that outfit... they will know better than I would which fabrics work best. All I know is that having some spandex/lycra content would be important, so the shirt would have plenty of stretch and wouldn't hinder you when you are trying to fight!

To help resist sweat problems, there are a few products I know of that you can try. (It's always best to try them BEFORE the day of a big event, rather than getting there and discovering that you have big problems!)

Good luck!

Welcome Mara, and best of luck with it. For the Sash Belt version I'd consult with kathgruben. Excited to see what you make.

Yay! another Ventress in the works. Looking forward to seeing your progress :)

To address the sweating issues, Pam has listed some good options. I can speak to this a little bit first hand from my recent experience at Celebration V, wearing my Ventress costume in the Florida heat and humidity - that'll definitely make you sweat!

For the bald cap, the important part will be the preparation and application: make sure your skin is free of oils when you attach the cap, and I recommend using pros-aide adhesive to make it stick and stick well. For the makeup, I recommend using an alcohol-based liquid makeup that is applied in thin coats with an airbrush. In North America we have Reel Creations, but I'm not sure if you have other options in Europe. While I was sweating as Ventress in the Florida heat, the pros-aide didn't give at all and the makeup stayed in place.

For the light grey fabric, I would recommend using something that is stretchy with a higher synthetic content compared to cotton content. Cotton will be more absorbent, whereas a more synthetic fabric will dry faster and should still be breathable. A fabric that could be used to make a dancer's costume might be a good idea to have in mind as you shop. However, I'm unable to suggest where to find the fabric on-line as I purchased mine from a local shop.

Good luck and keep us posted! :)

For the grey fabric i'd suggest fabric called matt miliskin (also known as tricot) or matt moleskin. Both these are used in dance wear and have a high synthetic content but are matt in texture.

examples - http://spandexworld.com/c3/catalog/product/6409

http://spandexworld.com/c3/catalog/product/6201 (too dark, but you get the idea)

these guys below, its always a good idea to email or call then to check they have the correct colour in stock or to ask for samples to be sent -

Of course synthetic fabrics dont breathe as well as natural fabrics, so if you prefer natural then go for a heavy cotton or viscose jersey with a lycra/spandex content

I personally prefer a viscose/lycra mix as it fits closer and smoother to the body and doesnt bag as much, but it usually is thinner than cotton/lycra.

I'd also suggest using one of the fantastic heavy duty antiperspirants - Sure and Dove do a 48 hr stick one, that i swear by! (hopefully you can get those brands in Denmark, if not im sure there are those types available).

I'll let the other ladies fill you in on materials that work well.

I've just completed a huge troop here in Queensland, Australia - where temperatures were around 35C Degrees - and boy, did we sweat! I used a product called "SweatStop" around the edges of where I stuck the baldcap - and I didn't have a problem.

I used Prosaide to glue a Graftobian baldcap down, and it was still 100% 8 hours later.

I also used some alcohol-based makeup, which wont sweat off - and I had very few problems. I needed a quick lipstick touch-up after lunch, and I was back into it!

Post photos for us!
