The chest rings are not flat. They are welded, but the welded bit is under the strap. I picked them up at a local hardware store. The same is true of the 2" rings. They have big old weld marks, but I hid them under the straps.

A dickie top would just make the neck and chest a separate piece from the sleeves. It would allow the costumer to use pretty much any long sleeve shirt for the sleeves ( provided it has no visible buttons and is appropriately sized) without having to have a fully custom tailored shirt. The collar and piping would be pat of the dickie; the sleeves part of the shirt

Question on the shirt. I moved the piping on my short up a bit to be in line with the visual references, but after trooping in it recently, I got to wondering if there might be a way to make this more summer friendly. Pretty much any shirt with a collar like this is going to be thick and warm. Is there anything in the CRL or visual references that would make it so I could not replace the collar with a dickie top, sew the piping into that, and then be able to wear a long sleeved black shirt that maybe breathes a bit better underneath?

Yea, I was going off the fact that his Sith outfit is virtually the same as his regular outfit except for the paint job, the shoulders, the cape, no leg holster, and the vanbrace instead of the wrist wrap. The pictures I used with the regular costume showed the pants and boots better and those parts seem to be the same in both versions. Didn't mean to be confusing. If it is a problem, I will break out my comics and try to take other pictures. They may just not show some of the detail as well.

I was wondering about this one. I saw a question on it from a while back but no real answer. A also saw that there was one approved Cade in RL, but he seems to be retired. At any rate, I like the Sith apprentice version a lot better.
As far as I can tell, this looks like a modified version of his regular outfit.
Here are the parts I see:
The Breast plate:
This plate is sometimes shown with a raised section in the middle and sometimes without. It is a breast plate with 3 small plates beneath it, the top of which might be fused to the breast itself or might not be. It is attached to a back plate at the shoulders and under the arms.
In the Sith version it has shoulders composed of one big plate and 2 small ones
Pants:
Look to me like Vader pants (see first image)
Shins:
Look to me like Vader Shins
Boots:
Heavy tread boots with two armor plates
Sash/belt:
Red sash, modified Imperial knight belt. Sith version lacks holster.
Cape:
Attaches at the top of the breast plate where it meats the shoulder straps.
Vanbrace:
Single vanbrace with insignia. No red wrist wraps in Sith Version
Tats:
Arm tats as in Sith reference
Shirt:
Sleeveless shirt shirt with high collar. Sometimes ribbed looking, sometimes not.

What she said. The trim is pretty easy, as are the rings, you just have to be unafraid to scrape the old ones off with a knife. Make sure the trim matches the red sash and be sure to put it on before the rings so that the red line is visible all the way around. I put a backing layer over the whole thing to make sure nothing came off. The new rings are quite a bit heavier. Just trooped in it all day yesterday and they stayed put. The only issue was that the added weight detached the ab plate from the black joining material after a day of use. You might want to make sure that connection is solid as well while you are at it.

I don’t recall the old CRL saying anything about preserving facial features. Did it? If not, it is hard to fault them. Having text saying that the features are required for approval might sort the issue. I get what you are saying about makeup, but I stil think features are easy to preserve with the right morph hood as long as you know that you are supposed to be preserving them.

I think the difference might be that I specifically use a morph hood. They are designed to preserve features. A line that says "The face must be blacked out in such a way that the facial features are preserved . The costumer may accomplish this with a sculpted black mask, black makeup, or a tight fitting reinforced or non-reinforced blackout/morph hood, provided that the features (including the lips, nose, and jawline) are discernible in a way consistent with the visual references" would leave the costumer with a bit of freedom while still being pretty clear about the quality of the final result.

I get that, but I still think it can be achieved without the mask. This is a blackout mask from my submission photos some time back. Discernible lips, chin and nose. The old CRL also left the option of black paint open as well.

Me too. It makes more sense for the formless darkness, allows you to emote slightly, is more comfortable to wear, and a lot easier to breath in.

I noticed the CRL got an update for COTF Nihilus, but while the KOTOR version still mentions a form fitting blackout hood, the COTF version now expressly specifies a sculpted mask. I was wondering what the rationale for this was. Many form fitting masks are tight enough to still have visible lips, so if that is the sticking point, is there any way we can get an update that would allow them if this is the case? I like to try to stay in keeping with CRL, but this may be one of those times when I have to rely on being grandfathered in as I cannot wear the sculpted mask and have the costume remain practical.

So I just got my Revan approved right before the updated CRL went into effect, and I am now making some changes to bring it in line with the new reference shots. Got all the rings swapped out and the red trim added. I must say though that 2" rings are substantially larger than what was on it it before. They look huge, but I trust your research, so 2" rings it is. Modified my hood and caplet for a full continuous hood and attachments directly to the chest plate rings. I was wondering though if anyone had any suggestions for the raised detail on the back of the kidney plate. I would like to add it without having to swap out the whole plate. Any ideas? I am thinking I can sculpt it on with a polymer and then blend it in with touch up paint.

Made me a bluetooth garble box to be able to make Nihilus sounds while in costume. All easy to come by parts, no fancy rigging or wires. Total cost less than $20 (not including the phone). Speaker goes under costume around neck. Phone goes in pocket. Remote goes in glove.

That is probobly the closest they make. Not sure if it is close enough though. I can put those parts together more or less for you in a pic if you want something to send to your GML.

Fair enough. I wouldn't say that it makes us lazy though. A lot of detachments have level one, two, and three or some such for increasing levels of accuracy on costume parts. In a saber that is seldom seen, that would not be unreasonable I would think. At any rate, for better accuracy, you are saying it is the image we should be following on the saber at this point rather than text? I thought the image was one of Rob's ABS 3D models. Since I am submitting for this one soon myself, I would like to clarify.

Not to be pedantic, but there is still some discrepancy there though. The photo reference has no gold or brass on the emitter though the text calls for it. The black series figure's saber has brass on the emitter but not on the pommel. Some of the game references even have black grip sections of the hilt. It gets confusing. As to what is available in the saber market, the VV Rev-N and the SF Fallen both have nobby pommels like the Ultrasabers guardian or scorpion pommel. If you put a guardian pommel on a shock LE you would have something almost exactly the same but bigger. None of them are gold that I have seen. The most screen accurate I have ever seen is a Rogue armory KOTOR hilt in the brass accent variant. That would be the ideal as far as I am concerned, but they are hard to come by. In terms of how strict the 501st is about complete accuracy on hilt designs, my experience talking to people has been they are not too strict about it. I would still be willing to bet that your GML would call the shock you were looking at close enough.

The CRL just says " The hilt midsection is silver, with the emitter head and back pommel sections showing gold or brass in color". The person I got my costume from was using an Aeon, which is barely the right shape. The Shock is a lot closer, though not as close as VV or SF. I just prefer the shock for the price point. You can check with your GML, but I think many of them give a lot of latitude for what is approvable for this hilt.

The Shock is close enough for a lot of the costumes that I have seen. I am planning to use one myself. Either get the LE or paint the gold accents yourself on a standard. The VV and SF models are a better match for his red one but a lot more expensive. Saberforge are the only ones who make the purple one though.

Not in the pictures. I need to adjust that, but am wondering by how much. The CRL for this costume is odd to me in a few ways. It seems to contradict. It says rings on the breast plate but shows clips. It says the piping is visible just above the plate but then says the hood will be there. It says the hood encloses the face completely, but that is not the case in the picture as it dips below the armor just past the black portion. The CRL says the caplet is not pleated but every single one I have ever seen on an approved costume and the one in the picture is. Mostly I have been going by the pictures and other approved costumes more than the text.

So I am on the books with a Nihilus, but once you go EU, you never go back. I have been working on it for a while, and I think I finally have a workable Revan. To get it, I have 2 Revans worth of parts. Will likely be looking to sell the extra sometime soon. I want to do a Becoming Revan video before I do so I can look at different parts from different makers. Still need to adjust a piece of Velcro, change the cape tie, and submit for approval, but more or less a finished product i think.

funtasma also makes what they call a "pimp shoe" that looks a lot like this to me as well. I find it fun to think that Thrawn might wear pimp shoes.
Updateing my Revan

Yes, it should match the red sash. I ended up using 2” wide ribbon from a fabric store. I glued it down, let the glue dry, then folded the bottom edge up and glued it in place so what is visible is a thin red section that is actually the fold among the middle of the ribbon.
