what can be used to make the shins? My girl friend wants me to work on a Jade costume for her and I have no clue as to how or where to start.

(there are other tips in Costuming tips thread in this section)

I found a base pair of hockey shin pads that I used (spray painted black).. I've actually used 2 different pairs of hockey shin pads.

Other ladies have sculped their own shin pads (I am sure they will speak up to give you tips as well..

ALSO - you can look into police riot-gear-esque shin/knee guards. Those typically are black to begin with and work well also.

I am sure that others will speak up, but I just found a pair of hockey shin guards that looked like the ones that Shannon McRandle used for her photo shoot (Typically sherwood or easton older style hockey shinguards tend to be more plain. Bauer have too much fabric to hold the spray paint well (unless you get an old pair that is mostly plastic), TPS are like the bauer. I can't think of too many other brands right now, my brain is shot and i tend to stick with the easton.) Depending on how tall you are, you can get away with getting youth hockey shin pads (which cost a LOT less than adult). The sizing is funky, but around this time of year, there are a LOT of used equipment sales for newer players. You will have to deal with cleaning the equipment to get rid of the smell if you go used (which can be an awful chore), but you can get some cool looks with the hockey pads.

I found some of my old CCM hockey shins. I cut off some of the padding last night and gave a quick coat of black primer just to see what I may have to work with. I will try and get some pics up and see what u think of them and if they could work out

I believe I have found the brand of shin gaurds that Shannon used for her photo shoot. It looks like she didn't use shin gaurds at all, but instead used the arm and shoulder gaurds from a Rockgardn flack suit.

Picked this one up on ebay; 62b9_1_b.jpg

Try Centurian riot gear shin guards. They're a little pricey, but I've found some good deals online occasionally.

OK, I know this is an old thread, but I have a new "question" regarding the shins. I am working on my wife's Mara (Hello), and I got these to start.

I am beginning to think the ones Shannon wore are a composite of two separate pieces (I know this has been discussed as well), so I am thinking about just modding these.

Thoughts??

I got these here in case anyone is interested: http://www.sixsixone.com/Catalog_661Bike.aspx?id=d831c148-109c-412c-b37f-2f2cd105e25f&product=5b99726d-ac6d-49d7-8dee-bfa505693974

For only $25 shipped. Not bad.

I'm working on following version:

I bought these guards: http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B0033AG ... d_i=301128

and I'm going to order these kneeguards :

Of course it is more complicate than the versions that I've found in this forum but I've already bought the shinguards. I hope I'll make it XD.
