  1. I will look for the Wonderflex. Do you know if it is very easy to find raw silk ? And is it really different from Jersey fabric ?

Raw silk is VERY different from jersey. To start with, silk has no stretch. The finish is different, the weight is different, and it will hang differently.

  2. Well, I really recommend Arda Wigs as a wig supplier. I got mine in Pumpkin and get comments on it all the time.

In terms of colour, the 501st CRL says "strawberry-blonde, red, or red-gold" however, I think the Arica period comes under Rebel Legion? They have a reference guide for it (where the 501st doesn't), at least, but it doesn't say about hair colour. I would check with them as the costume seems to come under them.

  3. Hey, the only approved General Grievous I know comes from a friend called John Donaldson in the Irish 501st Garrison. He was at one time talking about possibly selling it. You could pop in by the 501stireland.com forum and see if he's still thinking about it.

  4. I was thinking velcro too. But I don't know how to sew. Do you think if I glue a snap to the armor and snap the bottom cloth of the cowl it would hold in the mean time?

I do not put stock on anything that will have any weight on it bearing up if it is only attached by glue. Every time I've tried, it's fallen apart- usually when it was most inconvenient.

Sewing is not hard, at least not the kind of sewing you have to do to attach Velcro. Very simple stitches that go up/down through all layers will do it. But hand stitching Velcro is painful. Give a shout out to your friends/family. Almost certainly one of then can teach you enough to be able to do this.

  5. Im headed to the Fabric District on monday (again) to scour (again) for more material of what I used for mine. I cant believe how hard this stuff is to find

It might partially be the time of year. Except us crazy costumes, a lot of places won't imagine there's a need for heavy fabrics when it's May.

  6. I think it depends on the style of shin guards that get chosen as some of them have very distinct looks. Without knowing which she's going for I don't think anyone can tell you for sure as some would need to be fully around and others not. The configuration of other accessories is a separate issue if I'm reading it right.

  7. I think it depends on which type of shin guards you're doing as Mara has at least 3 different versions. I don't think the Decipher ones cover the back, but they look very different from the comic versions.

  8. I'm not an expert, but it looks like it's just a little low to me. Could you pull the shoulder straps to bring the whole chest pieces up? Then it might look more like what the references show. The reference has the ring close to the navel/waist where yours is clearly lower. So pulling it up might "fix" the proportions without you having to do much else.

  9. CRL says 2" heels, so I think you'd have to go with the second pair if you want it to be clear able. There's no way the first one is 2".

  10. I did a hidden zip, which was annoying and fiddly, but worked out well. It would probably be the best best for you too, since buttons don't really seem to fit the reference pics. Amidala's fireside gown has an opening/button close if you want to have a look at that option, but I think the zip is probably your best shot. I had to run it for about 4 inches up into my palm. I think in retrospect, because it bugs me, that I'd put it along the outside of my hand/side of arm if I did it again.

  11. I just recently did leather gauntlets myself for a different project. Be cautious around the wrist. I had to add in a closure there as otherwise my hand couldn't get through, even with a custom pattern. But the pattern looks good!

  12. So I'm plogging along with my build for this, but I have a question.

Does the bodysuit have to be all the same fabric for clearance, or if its two fabrics (that both are black, medium sheen) would that be clearable?

I'm thinking kind of like the Kotobukiya Mara Jade outfit, just in black. It would have slightly more matte, but still stretchy middle with the more PVC style fabric on the outside half of the jumpsuit.

I have enough fabric in both that I could make full jumpsuits of either, but I think it might be more breathable and comfortable this way. I just don't want to cut it all up and make it and find out its not clearable like that.
