  1. There has to be an appeal process. Can you ask for clarification of what they mean? Maybe making them be more explicit in their reasoning can give you an idea what you would need to do to resubmit? Failing that, take photos in different lighting and see?

  2. I don't know if it's the case, but the point of weathering is yo look like he clothes has been naturally used and damage has happened to it. Occasionally, weathering can look too obviously on purpose. It becomes clear that this isn't clothing that became distressed through wear and tear. I wonder if that's what they mean?

  3. Hi Eliste and thanks for your reply Yes, Mara is married to Luke at that point. I was just wondering, as the Rebel Legion approves the "emperors hand" Mara version, if the 501st does the same with the RL version.Howevsr, I am currently doing both costumes. :-)

Not all the RL approvable Mara costumes are approvable with the 501st. Her green dress, for instance, is RL approvable but not 501st. I think really, it's "was she semi on the bad side when she wore it?" If yes, the 501st is a possibility. So I don't think this one would be.

  4. I'm not sure. From what I know, Swarm Wars happens we'll post the original trilogy and Heir to the Empire. She would have been married to Skywalker by then, right? If so, I don't think she would belong in the 501st.

However, the black bodysuit, if you follow the RL guidelines should be fine for approval with 501st.

  5. 1 - Neither of us have worked in the leather/pleather realm. She can sew well though. Is pleather a pain in the butt, and any recommendations on a good brand that approximates brown leather?

Pleather is relatively easy to work with. It sews much like normal fabric with a few changes. It is useful to put paper between the fabric and your machine/foot. Tissue paper or wax paper works well. It just means it flows through the machine well.

Both pleather and leather will never heal holes. So if you see it wrong, and rip out the seams, you will see the holes you made the first time round forever. For both, though, use a leather needle rather than a normal one. Real leather may or may not be able to be done on a machine. It depends on the weight.

Leather is better for actual straps, as it has a lot more strength to it. Pleather can slowly stretch over time to the point where it rips. You can reinforce depending on what it is, but for straps I recommend real leather if there is any weight bearing.

Leather is a lot harder to work with. There is zero stretch in it, so if it's any kind of bodysuit you will not be able to really move in a full fitting leather outfit.

  6. Great look. I am finishing up my wife's Mara and your link helped out just incase we have to redo her jumpsuit. Also I have a question for you...Do you have the cape clasp and harness backplate?

I have not done the cape, but I did make my harness backplate.

There are three blog posts on my page about this costume. This is the one that has my backplate in it.

  7. I'm afraid that without seeing it on her it's difficult to know if it will be accepted as its about fit as well as everything else.

Medium sheen means it has a slight shine to it. I'm not sure from the photo uploaded whether or not it has this.

  8. If you don't want to use the GSTQ pattern, or altering it too much, the Yaya Han bodysuit pattern worked great for me.

I went with Arda's pumpkin rather than fire orange, but I think fire orange would be fine.

There is a cowl pattern floating around if you look for it. It's essentially a wide tube with a slope.

Double check whether you can get away with the zipper in the boots.

  9. The only ones that will cover the pupil will be mesh without it making you blind (not permanently unless you wear them improperly). Most color changing are not designed to cover the pupil.

  10. You need to know that there are two types of color contacts- colour changing contacts, which work to change the color of your iris (and maybe a bit outside) or sclera.

Sclera are the full eye contacts that cover from tip to tip and look oh so cool on tv. They are only used very briefly though and many productions are replacing them with CGI because they are very tough for actors to wear.

They are also INCREDIBLY UNSAFE if you do NOT get them specifically sized for yourself. There are very few places that make safe sclera lenses (usually for the theatre) but because it is for your full eye, they really need to be fitted to you in person. Use of badly fitted sclera contacts, or prolonged sclera contacts usage, can cause PERMANENT eye damage. So if you are serious about these, you need to find somewhere reputable, close by, that you can get this done at. Preferably attached to a real optometrist.

Colour changing contacts, on the other hand, are much easier to find and use. I buy mine from Honeycolor.com but others have had success with pinkyparadise.com. Honeycolor allow for prescriptions as well. Red is common enough and you can get solid red coverage for your iris.

Some places also do mesh contacts. These are often used for zombies in white, but can come in red for a similar effect but colour change. (Essentially you get the colour over the pupil as well, which does mean your eyesight is obscured and you do need a handler when wearing the contacts).

If you have never used contact lenses before, you MUST go to an optometrist and get them to fit you for contact lenses and, importantly, teach you to safely put in and take out contact lenses.

PLEASE BE SAFE WITH YOUR EYEBALLS. They do not get better if you screw them up.

  11. Hey guys,

My fiance and I are starting her Mara Jade Bodysuit build. As of now we have purchased the McCall's M7217 pattern and are looking into what fabric to use. We are thinking that the "Cosplay by Yaya Han 4-Way Ultrapreme Fabric" at Joann's would be the best bet. any suggestions?

I haven't seen it in person, but it looks reasonable from the website. When you go in, take the pattern with you and make sure it has sufficient stretch. The pattern has a guide as to how stretchy it needs to be on the back.

Also, the pattern is a very good one to work with. It's what I used and I approve of it wholeheartedly.

  12. Congrats PanzerKraken!!! Yours is the best of all I´ve ever seen so far!!!! You deserved the approval!!! I´ve got a question... I think the CRL needs some modifications, for instance... the cover of your boots is hard like the armor? This is what the CRL says and I think this is an error, because this way it could be difficult to walk... don´t you think so???

    Thanks!!!!

I don't think that's wrong. It's shoe armour. Sabine wren has it too. And let's face it, when has costumer comfort come into play over accuracy?

  13. sorry, not seeing it on the official photo order list.

and there is no more room to fit it in according to Ginny

are there any details you or someone else could post as can't see how this is happening, Not on facebook so can't see you post

Thomas said to just stick around and it would get done. May not be with official photographer but we'll all be in the same place. Presumably just look for more Flagship costumes?

    There isn't really specifics...
