  1. Well, I must confess that I have now wasted 2 months on this forehead extension and come up with nothing good. I tried a few different pieces of plastic, but none of them would conform to her head without some kind of gap forming between her forehead and the piece of plastic. I'm at a loss on what to do. Does anyone know of something that I can make that would keep the shape of her forehead that I won't have to burn her head while I'm trying to make it? Plaster form negative and then make a piece from that maybe? Any help would be hot!
  2. OK, back at it this week. No pics yet, nothing to show really ‘cause I’m trying to adjust the two pieces of the headdress so Lisa isn’t feeling like she is having her hair pulled. Lol I also need to make sure the fake forehead is aligned correctly to make it seem natural. I just wish (mini rant) that I could take Lisa out shopping for boots while the holiday sales are going on, there are a lot of thigh high cloth boots on sale this season that have a platform which we could use to make her taller. Possibly make her at least 6’ since in the scenes with Count Dooku she appears to be looking down at him and Christopher Lee is about 6’ 1” I think…..BUT since we where rear ended in April, Lisa has been in and out of rehab for a torn muscle in her left calf, so she can’t go around trying on boots right now with these crowds of holiday shoppers. Stupid drivers with their cell phones, GRRRRRR….. (end of mini rant) She is really down right now, with all the events she is missing out on trooping at, and the Fiesta Bowl Parade coming up. We are going to have to put her in one of the vehicles and just wave at the crowd I guess.
  3. Yes, that is what I was thinking as well. I measured Lisa's eyes, forehead and other elements hoping to make it fit better to her proportions and the headdress. My only concern is making it too long so it will look right for the long forehead that I have to create. We will see.....
  4. Starting making templates for the decoration on her forehead today. Need to take them home and see which one looks better, then I can make the forehead extension and start putting everything together.
  5. Now another coat of fiberglass resin....
  6. Progress report on the headdress. Since finishing the basis, i started to make the top that will hold the fabric and create the shape of the headdress. I made the shell and used fiberglass resin and sheeting to reinforce it: Then made the center piece that will have the "ribbon" going down the center of the headdress holding the medallion: Also using fiberglass resin and sheeting to reinforce it. Next I need to attach the center piece to the slots I made in the shell and more fiberglass will be needed.
  7. Trimmed the buckram and started the wire frame. I am having a hard time thinking of a suitable material for her forehead. It needs to be 3 times the size of her forehead now. I just can't think of anything that will look like it is a part of her head. Lol.
  8. After a few botched tries, I was finally able to make the buckram work. Once it dries I can trim it. Next it's time to make the wire frame for the headdress. Does anyone know where to find the right kind of wire?
  9. With a link from a friend, I found instructions for a Las Vegas showgirl headdress that I think will work. I could not find any buckram, the stiff material needed for the basis of the headdress, so I ordered some online, along with a wedding dress pattern with a medium length train that looks fairly close the the length you can see on the third episode from that storyline. As we wait, I make a rotating display stand for the headdress that I can also use to work on. We then went back the the fabric store and purchased the material needed for the costume. 10. So……after downloading one of the episodes off itunes from that storyline, watching it in slow-mo, backwards and forwards, etc., etc., Lol, I have come up with an idea of where I want the different fabrics to be used on each area. The brown on her chest, abs and back is armor plating that I will probably do in ABS or sentra I have laying around here at work. Also unseen in this photo is a huge train that comes out from under the sides of her girth belt. Here is the photo with my ideas for fabric. What do you guys think? We are going to go back to the fabric store this weekend and get the supplies and possibly our first sewing machine...
  11. That sounds great, can I achieve the brown that is on the top of her arms with this fabric paint, or do you think I need to sew the brown to the red? It will need to match the brown on the body underneath the cross pieces over her chest and abs. I will definitely use the paint to make the designs on her outer robes.
  12. Lisa and I liked the lycra and velvet, I think they will both move well, and we will be able to animate it better than the cotton or poplin. We may need to wait until the blue ray comes out to look at the episodes frame by frame, because some of these pics make it look like different shades of red, it worries me a bit.
  13. OK, so we went to the fabric store today and looked at different types. What do you guys think? Poplin Fabric 1 Poplin Fabric 2 Stretch Velvet Flannel Lycra Solid Cotton
  14. Oh believe me, I did that already. I was hoping that the blue ray will have a 360 turnaround of the character, but that doesn't come out until Oct. I think, and we are going to go fabric shopping this weekend. I am going to take your advice and have the pictures with me when we go for sure. Just thought it might be a good thing to have a nice "4 corner" view of the costume to work from.
  15. I need to make some 3D renders of the character with her arms outstretched from all sides. I just don't have the skill required on the computer to do this. Does anyone out there think they could help? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Andy
  16. Thanks Pam, I appreciate it. One more question about fabric, I see that I will have to make a design on her ?tabards?, how does one go about making a design in the real world from a drawing? Do I need maybe a darker red material sewn onto them, cut to the design or should it be hand painted? Just wondering what you all think, thanks.
  17. That is definitely what I had in mind, maybe with two wires that would intertwine and make the fabric seem to have a mind of it's own. Oh man, I'm worried and excited all at the same time, lol. I would love to be able to premiere this at CIV, but I'm going to take my time.
  18. I think I know what you mean, kind of what I had in mind. Maybe some small RC motors? OK, so some background info. Lisa is my wife's name and she doesn't use forums, although she is in the Mando Mercs with me. Lol We live in Central Phoenix, AZ. and there are 4 or 5 good fabric stores in town for us to pick from. She and one of the other garrison members will probably do the sewing, since I know Bupkis....Here she is in her Mando at an event: She is the one in blue with the pistols. Me on the left.
  19. Thanks Katie, I will check out those other nightsister WIPs. So this will go to the Nightsister area?
  20. Hi everyone, my wife is looking to make a first in legion costume of Mother Talzin from the Clone Wars, and I need guidance. desperately. We want to incorporate the flowing arched robes that sprout from her back, maybe have them move on their own when she troops.....but I don't know much about fabric work, and this looks like a tough costume to build...HELP! I will post the build from start to finish here but could use as much wisdom as you guys can spare. Thanks, Andy Romero DZ-7244 Garrison Membership Liaison Dune Sea Garrison
  21. Hello everyone, my first time on these forums. My wife Lisa wants to make a Mother T costume soon, any chance for some pointers in this? Andy Romero DZ-7244
