  1. Yes, I believe you're correct. I looked, and don't see a CRL for that particular costume on the 501st Legion boards, nor do I see any one in the 501st with an approved version of this costume. You might want to check out the Rebel Legion boards to see what they have on this costume. From what I can see, you're doing a great job on this, so I would encourage you to continue on your quest to get it approved, even if that's with the Rebel Legion instead of the 501st. Be proud of what you're creating! Good luck!
  2. Nice Helmet! It's the same one I have for my son's Lord Starkiller costume I've been working on for the last few years when I have time. My son just turned 18 this year, so I'm hoping to apply for 501st membership at some point in the near future. Rob's helmet is nice, but it lacks some of the weathering & battle damage that to me makes it more realistic. I added some extra weathering & damage to my son's. It's up to you whether you want to make yours a bit more battle worn or not. Here's a recent pic of my son in his costume so you can see what we've done with his. I'd be glad to give you advice on your costume if you'd like. Good luck with your build!
  3. Yes, please do post here. You started this thread for your costume, so it's best to keep everything all in one place. If you want constructive evaluation of your costume, it's best to take pics in bright even lighting against a neutral background. Take full frontal, full right side, full left side, full rear, & then if you like close-ups of some of the details, like armor, belts, sabers, etc. That way we can all see the fine details of what you've come up with, & can better evaluate what's good about it, as well as what may or may not need to be improved. We're all here to help each other make the best costumes we can! Looking forward to seeing more pics from your build! Welcome!
  4. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL JOB!!! LOVE IT!!!
  5. Nice progress! I do have a few suggestions for you that might help. 1st, you might want to do a bit of weathering detail on your vambrace metal ornamentation piece. I think if you use a dark acrylic paint wash on it, it will bring the etching detail out more, like in your reference pic. Also, it looks like your leather pouches are missing some of the proper detailing on & around the flap area. I know this is still a work in progress, so maybe you haven't had a chance to add these details yet. It also looks like there may be a bit of detail missing on your buckle ornament as well. This is all constructive criticism, & is not meant any any way to take away from the nice progress you're making on this build! GREAT JOB so far! Looking forward to seeing more!
  6. Hi there, & welcome! The saber you have in your link looks pretty good. More than likely it would not hinder you getting approved. That being said, I would be cautious when dealing with this vendor, as I have heard some bad things about them on some of the saber forums. I'm not telling you what to do, I'm just suggesting you to exercise caution when dealing with ANY vendor. In terms of other vendors for this saber, there are others out there that are reliable, but you may pay considerably more. I would suggest that you sign up on some of the saber forums, & READ, READ, READ the threads on there. Remember, Google is your friend! For help with building your own saber, I would suggest looking here: http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/ & here: http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com/se ... id=7464600 A good place to look if you're interested in costuming in general besides here is the RPF. Here's a link: http://www.therpf.com/ You'll soon discover who the reliable vendors are, as well as those to steer clear of. I would also suggest patience when starting to build any new costume. To do things right, it's ALWAYS best to take your time & DO LOTS OF RESEARCH 1st before buying anything! Believe me, I speak from experience! Had I been patient when starting my Vader build, I could have saved myself HALF of the final cost of building it! Currently the total exceeds $10,000! Had I been patient, I could have spent $4000-$5000 & ended up with the extremely accurate gear I currently have! People often turn to eBay when they 1st enter this hobby, because they find it to be an easy way of getting parts they need to make their costume, at what they think are reasonable prices. That's where I started too, & as I said, it ended up costing me A LOT in the end! Now I'm not saying that you can't find good stuff on eBay, but the majority of the BEST vendors that offer the items you will need to get your costume approved generally don't advertise on sites like eBay. That's why it's ALWAYS a good idea to sign up on sites like here, & RESEARCH the heck out of whatever you're trying to make! You will find what you're looking for, it's just going to take some time! Like the saying says, "All good things to those who wait." Now, let me climb down off my soapbox, & let you get to making an AWESOME Starkiller costume! Good Luck, & Welcome!
  7. I know you're busy with other projects right now, but is there any chance of an update on when you'll be starting on more parts for this build, such as leg & thigh armor? I'm drooling over your work so far! Forgive my impatience for wanting to see more! By the way, I sent you another PM awhile ago, but I'm not sure if you got it yet? Looking forward to seeing more from you soon!
  8. VERY NICE! I've been popping in on this thread from time to time to see your progress, & continue to be impressed by what I see! GREAT JOB so far! Keep it up!
  9. SWEET!!! ME WANTS IT!!! AWESOME JOB SIR!!! CAN'T WAIT for updates on additional pieces! Keep it going!
  10. TOTALLY AWESOME MYNOCK!!! CAN'T WAIT for this to be completed!!! I sent you another PM!
  11. SWEET, TOTAL AWESOMENESS!!! CAN'T WAIT to see this finished! PM sent!
  12. CONGRATS on your approval! Hope my Acolyte looks that good once I'm done! Real life has gotten in the way for now, so all my builds are on temporary hold. Hopefully things will turn around in the near future, so I can get back to what I love to do in my spare time! Again, CONGRATS! You look AWESOME!!!
  13. VERY NICE!!! The pics look GREAT! Good luck with your approval!
  14. Very nice so far! If I may ask, do you have a game plan for the face under the hood? Are you planning on making a silicone pull over mask, or are you planning on make-up of some kind? Just curious if you've thought about that yet? Keep the updates coming. This should be AWESOME when you're done! Looking forward to seeing more!
  15. Looking very nice! I like what you've done with the boot armor! It should provide for more flexibility of movement, & it still looks good! Nicely done! Looking forward to seeing you all suited up with the new mask too. Looks like you're nearing completion on this!
  16. I have to agree with Drago here. So far your attention to DETAIL has been SPOT ON! Yes, you still have details to add, including greeblies, wraps, sabers, & more weathering to individual pieces to name a few, but so far I see nothing that really stands out as needing to be addressed! I am curious to see what you do for detailing the mechanical hand, but I'm sure based on what I've seen of your work so far, that you'll come up with a good solution! Again, I commend you for a JOB WELL DONE thus far! Keep at it!
  17. WOW!!! AWESOME update!!! I'm LOVING what you've done so far! CAN'T WAIT to see this finished! It's going to ROCK!!! Make sure to post some full body shots of you in costume for us to see. A side by side comparison with the digital model would be SWEET, not to mention nice for side by side comparison to see all the details! NICE JOB!!!
  18. Sorry, I didn't notice that the thread had already gone to a 2nd page! My bad! I do echo Drago's opinion though! I also think that the bottom edge of the back of the chest piece should just cover the bottom of the shoulder blade. Looking forward to seeing more!
  19. It's a bit hard to tell, as you're only showing one side of the armor on you at a time, but just looking at it, I'd say you're probably right. It does appear to be a bit too big now. Being able to see both sides on you at the same time, to see how close or far apart the armor is from one another would be helpful. I do think that a slight reduction in the size will help though. Maybe split the difference between the 1st & 2nd versions! Hope this helps!
  20. VERY NICE! This is a cool version of Starkiller that very few have attempted, so I commend you for your efforts in bringing one of the lesser seen, and cooler versions (IMO) of Starkiller to life! If you don't mind my asking, what did you use to make your claws? They look GREAT! Keep up the GOOD WORK! I look forward to seeing continued updates!
