  1. TO DO LIST __ Paint Chest Armor __ Paint Gauntlets __ Paint Chest Box __ Inlay red on chest box __ Make belt buckle from aluminum BELT BUCKLE: 0/100% __ Make small pouch that goes on the belt
  2. 1.50 @ Walmart Here is the hubby painting the armor, showing the trashcan full of paint brushes 2 coats unsanded 3 coats sanded 3 coats sanded I am going to watch the video again and see what he recommends for painting. Husband wants to get plastic primer?
  3. SORRY!! I poofed hehe. UPDATE!! Alright, this stuff is AMAZING! A few Tips for anyone who hasnt used -Buy a TON of paintbrushes you will use a new one every few minutes -Buy ONLY the paint brush sponges, The cheaper the PB the better as you WILL throw them away. -Only mix as much as you can use in a few min or less time period (we recommend 1 ounce) -Be prepaired to work FAST, it dries SO FAST its insane. -If heavily bent it begins to crack, I do not know if more coats will make it hold up better. I dont have any pretty pictures! But pictures they are. 3 coats have been applied thus far.
  4. I wish I knew more about this costume. If I was going to build it heres what I would personally buy Shirt and Pants: 5 Yards of Brown Cotton/Linen (something thick but not insanly thick and not itchy) Armor: 5 yards of Tan Linen/Cotton (something thick but not insanly thick and not itchy) Belts: 6 Square feet of leather (a 3 by 2 ft piece) Appears as though he is using Pleather? I know thats to much. But I always over compensate by 25% or more.
  5. Good fabric choices! I am such a fan of Linen for anything Starwars related. This costume is on my top 5 favs. If I wasnt a chick I would have it on my to do list!!) Visually the course materials you posted look spot on. The outfit after all is makeshift armor. One must use a dense course and thick fabric to create that mass that is needed for this build. The costume reminds me of what the men would do on the battlefields in the renaissance and earlier. Armor was expensive. You use what you have to defend yourself. The thicker the better!! All of Starkillers costumes make a lot of sense when broken down into their parts. This one specifically. Starkiller only had the resources around him. He was afforded none of the luxuries a formal apprentice would get so he had to get creative when he headed out on that mission. I am a hardcore FU1 fan as well.... i cant not love the dark apprentice robes from 2. I hope they just make a 3 and do it justic and redeem FU2....
  6. I started originally with a button up black cotton style suit shirt with a simple 1 inch colar (yay 3.50 @ the thrift store) I ended up making a undertunic ( like a Jedi ) both seem to work great. But the sleves on the Tunic work better!
  7. They sent me back here! Ok, not really.. well kind of. Anyways here is my board! I basically stated that I will have 2 WIPS. Just so everyone see's it (They said they will help out where they can/ because they are vaders) And I know you guys will always help out! http://forum.501stsithlords.com/index.p ... topic=7050 In a nut shell from what I understand. When I submit the costume you guys will figure it out! lol ****Also I seek a XL Rubies Vader. I would LOVE to get a used one. If anyone has one for sale PM Me price Thanks!!!
  8. Ok just double checking. I was literally torn 50/50 between posting it there and posting it here, many thanks! Its EU is why I was so torn! haha
  9. I am having a hard time figuring out if its just a Legion 1st and no one has done it. Or its a costume I just cant find in the CRL of the Sith Lords or here.. or if it IS in fact a Flagship/Sith Lord Detachment costume PS- Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. Force Unleashed Vader THIS ONE Anyone have ANY information? I would like to do one. Making sure its canon. Or looking for where I can get information on the build. Thank you!!
  10. UPDATE I see exactly what you mean and are explaining! I seem to have solved the issue! I hope this makes sense I tore out half the liner (the back) I lined it with a thinner material *only in the back* and reattached it to the hood. Then I pulled and tucked on the right and left rather than the center (I had already pulled the hood up a taste before) so now it has that "drape" effect PS- I am still waiting on my 65D Resin! My husband would let me purchase nothing else. I will post my results (of course) After seeing that video you posted Jeff he insisted that we only use that Unfortunately its being shipped from PA to CA haha He did all the sanding/glue work. He and I love the result thus far. We can not wait to see how this turns out!!
  11. Glad your seeing the same thing as me! Thank you so much!
  12. Thank you so much for posting! I was thinking the same about the hood. I was going to do a exact side by side comp to see (hood up and hood down). To me, in some scenes it looks larger. then in some, it looks just right. Also I am not 100% happy with the way it is "laying" Its a Linen outside and its lined with a Cotton/Canvas type liner to give it that STIFF (stand on your own look) Basically I can put the hood where I want and it STAYS! I am not entirely happy with it. Ive almost debated taking out the liner. But in the Reference, Its obvious that he does not have any kind of sew line running down the front of the hood. (As I do not as well. Which tells me it does need to be lined. (with something) I just wonder if I have gone a bit to far. To big is good. That I can fix, easily. To small is NOT. I cant "make" material. But I sure can take it out! =) Also Question (anyone feel free to answer) To me, it feels to large going backwards behind my back (the lengh) It feels just right (or close) on the sides of the armor (the width). I am submitting this baby! I want to try and get it as SPOT ON as I can before I do that! I have some sort of weird thing..I want to do a Legion 1st SO BAD! Yeah yeah I know.. weird. ALSO UPDATE: The pieces have 2 Coats of wood glue now on them. Resin coming soon. DON'T HATE ME!! *scurries off to hide* Thank you so much good sir!! ...I can offer fresh baked cookies for all the amazing hard work you guys do. Its a time consuming job, and I thank you. =)
  13. What is thy bidding.. My Master? Yes its FAR to flat. I appreciate the crits. Your a Vader thats the top end of the costuming spectrum! Its perfection! Belt: The belt is upside down, whoops. PS- I agree with you as well btw. Thank you for the ref! *looks* Thats why I posted that "fakie" breakdown of the costume. I miss things! Theres only so much you can see and take in! (and hope to get correct) Wow, now looking at the CRL. It is the same belt buckle. That really really helps! Pouch: Yep! There is a small pouch beside the buckle. I am confused on it though... is it a Covertec Clip/Pouch? I had not made that yet because I keep looking at it trying to figure it out. He is Mini Vader for goodness sakes, he should look just as good as his master! I am so fortunate to have you helping me. Eternal thanks Lord Vader *bows*
  14. PLEASE DONT HESITATE TO YELL IF SOMETHING LOOKS OFF (IGNORE FOAM PIECES AT THIS POINT) I am MUCH Fatter than Lord Starkiller haha! TO DO ___ FILE DOWN EDGES OF FOAM REALLY WELL TO LOOK GOOD ___ MAKE GAUNTLETS MORE COMFORTABLE ___ SEAL FOAM ___ MAKE SURE THE UNDERSIDES TO EVERYTHING ARE COLORED BLACK (Obi underside) ___ TIGHTEN UP SLEEVES ON UNDER TUNIC ___ PLASTIDIP FOAM BOX/BELT/GAUNTLETS/CHEST ARMOR ___ AFFIX ATTACHMENTS TO UPPER ARMOR TO KEEP IT PUSHED DOWN MORE ___ WEAR PURE BLACK GLOVES ___ TAKE NEW PHOTOS Heres some photos I just took. Cant wait to see the comparison after I do the Dip Correctly
  15. Ill do a small test first! =) This is so great Jeff! This looks EASY! (I shouldn't say that) as it probably isn't. But wow thats a very straight forward tutorial! I will start the 1st half of the process tonight and finish the process tomorrow with the Poly. Ill take photos I love how this guy explains this all. I am such a Noob I am so glad I have you all to help me!! PS- I did a run of shots with the costume on. I will be applying your process to -The "Vader Box" -Outside Armor -Belt Buckle -Gauntlets Lets see how much better it looks come tomorrow afternoon! =)
  16. Thank you for pointing that out! Hubby said the EXACT same thing! I went out and got another can of plexidip. I'm wondering if I should have just bought the bottle of it? I thank you for pointing this stuff out. It doesn't look good and I am thinking 4 more coats (or more) will make it look better? I have Never used plexi dip Anyone know if the spray or can works better? Will do! See this is why I am here. Cause you guys are a LOT better at this than I I am going back to buy some now (and the HUGE can of plexidip haha) Thank you thank you thank you for the tutorial!! *watches*
  17. Sewing the 2 lines into the shoulder bells (I am NOT 100% sure there are 3. I keep watching the video and not seeing them... Opinions?? Black Gauntlets Chest Armor that needs to becleaned up a touch and the hood needs to be attached .....and my Sith Robes were approved!!!! Thank you so much to all of you for all your help!!! :)Huge thanks to you Lord Vader Jeff
  18. APPROVED!!! Thank you so much for the kind words! Its so appreciated!
  19. I am posting this in hopes that someone can offer some advice. Can anyone look at my reference and tell me this. Are the GAUNTLETS the same color as.... THE BELT BUCKLE (Dark Silver) or THE COSTUME (Black) I have conflicting "evidence" thats my issue. WHY: I feel like it might be a black "shiny" metal. I keep watching the video and seeing different things So I painted it matte black with Plexidip and then lightly spray painted the silver. I feel like I might still be to light. Looking at some of the ref... I am inclined to think its the EXACT same material as the chest armor. Which is Shiny black. Thank you so much for ANY help/ Advice! Update: I Went back and sprayed it black.
  20. Thank so much for the kind words jeff and blitz. Lord Jeff I completely agree, I feel like I will be able to see the details better as more pieces come together. I have decent photo reference of the back. and unlike your sons amazing costume there is not nearly as much going on. THe one thing my ref does tell me is that there is no visible hooks on anything, you can't see where one item stops and ends, all I can foresee doing is that placing the hooks behind the tabard when I do the final setup should do it CHEST ARMOR IN PROGRESS TO DO: GLUE INLAY INTO IT SPRAY PLASTIDIP PAINT GLOVES IN PROGRESS -GLOVES BEFORE HOT GLUE WAS APPLIED, THIS SHOWS THE PATTERN I MADE CHEST ARMOR IN PROGRESS SHOWING ORIGINAL PATTERN AND DESIGN GLOVES IN PROGRESS TO DO: PAINT FINAL LITTLE PARTS FIGURE OUT IF THIS IS IN FACT THE RIGHT COLOR.
  21. This has been so poorly put on me. The hood and back look atrocious. INDIVIDUAL PIECES Hood Neck Collar Obi Then belt then Vader Box Belt Vader Box/Belt/Obi and Belt all on top of each other Vader Box IN PROGRESS PIECES
  22. Yay! My husbands Rebel Legion costume was approved this morning! Oh i so hear you on the upgrades, but just as time goes on we realize more and more what flaws lie within our costumes (we are the worst critics!!) Every time I take out my Amidala gown I have to do hours worth of work on it just to take it out again. There is so many variables to costuming. So much to pay attention to. I love every second of it! Ive started offering sewing to friends just so that I can get the sewing bug out of my system... Its so fun to create things (and see the stuff in action) Ive come to realize that I have to many costumes! and to many more that I want! Its so much fun though! Heres where I am progress wise **IGNORE THE BELT!!! Its my Sith Belt..Its the only thing holding the costume on me!*** I accidentally shoved the secondary belt under the pants instead of the obi. I haven't attached it yet, but yes it is in the wrong place INDIVIDUAL PIECES PLEASE IF ANYONE SEES ANYTHING WRONG OR OFF DON'T HESITATE TO YELL!!
  23. I cant stop making costumes Lord Vader x.x I am slightly obsessed with costuming. So sorry I have been quite unresponsive this weekend, my kids (1 and 3 years old) have been quite active. Also when I trooped at Legoland last week my hubby (semi) Wrangled for me and 3 others (we lost many of our wranglers after 1pm) so he stepped in and took photos and got us water etc. haha. On our way home he gave in and said I could finally make him a costume. I have been trying to just talk him into a Generic Jedi (He wants to join the 501st) I just wanted to get him trooping no matter which group and i can do a Gen. Jedi no problem. Anyways, long story short I made him this costume this weekend. Quite the discontented Jedi if I do say so myself. He is going to respect the coolness of this costume after he gets his Vader i bet.. I hear they are quite..hot? and I turned my hubbys costume into the Rebel Legion tonight I think I will be starting on the Red Chest (Vader) box firstfor this costume. Going to do a layout of the costume and then watch tutorials (again) on making props.
  24. Thank you for a response! Looking at it yes, thats def something to look into. Ill look at the ventress a bit. You can always find so many comparisons between one character to the next thank goodness to figure out what is going on! This is a dark costume and it doesn't help that most the screenshots I/we have is in the rain! This is the brightest image I have to date. Thats where I can see that swooping line across the neckline. Ill draw some concepts of it and see what folks say to it. Thats one of the last pieces ill be doing (aside from the gauntlets) So its still a week or 2 away (I am sewing a Generic Jedi robe then I am starting on this costume). I hope I can come up with a reasonable solution and a Costume mentor to hopefully pop in here and say some thoughts on it as well.. I know I am at the begining stages. But this is where you want to make darn sure nothings wrong. WHy waste time, effort and materials I need to buy centra for the gauntlets I think.. i think that will look nice
