  1. I agree. I am honestly unsure what percentage of our members actually lack the back plating. I am always concerned about changing a standard which would then create problems for membership. However, I shall include your suggestion in further discussions about CRL changes, this is one of several that need to be made.
  2. Those are a tad bit low most likely, in reality your pants would probably drape over so there's a chance they would be okay. However, for the price-point you may as well get a different style. Those are nice but probably just not high enough. This post from Kilryth is chock-full of discussion about various styles: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2577 I would check that out and if you have any questions afterward feel free to ask.
  3. That is true. It's something I've been struggling with trying to pin down a "light side" version for the Rebel Legion, the "mask or no mask" question. I guess it doesn't really matter, since EU characters don't do canon troops anyway. Technically speaking, you only need to be male for approval, but for troops outside of canon troops, I don't think it's a big deal. I could be wrong on that, though. 1. I had a long fun chat with Thomas yesterday and nailed a thing or two down. Ultimately: we can't nail anything down in this area at this time. For anyone familiar with the topic, patch 2.2 was supposed to do some changes to the Revan costume models used in his scenes, but to my knowledge, that hasn't been posted any where. I've not seen the new images anywhere. Without images, we really can't do much. Ultimately, a maskless option using "Kotor" armor is only going to be viable if the costume is 100% matching the SWTOR version (that's my opinion on what it would take, not an official stance). In short, what we really need is some new in-game reference because all posted videos and pictures seen so far are from the old version. 2. You're very much right SkySith, and I will answer in the same way I would someone asking about a lightsaber: It's really up to the folks you troop with locally if it's not a 501st Canon event. I would safely guess with regards to a female chest piece, mask-less option or otherwise that the best bet is to get photos of what you plan to wear/do and shoot it to your Squad/Garrison CO and GML for an approval much like what a lot of our local Mandalorian Mercs and other folks do if they want to come to an event. I'll reference SL-9833 Mathias Bastyr and his tattoo project/shirtless Darth Maul as being not approved (yet) but going to events with folks. Do it awesome, do it well, and make sure folks locally are okay with it. Just understand that local approval isn't inherently Legion approval.
  4. Absolutely! I am a big fan of posting here for future references, but I also accept e-mails and PMs.
  5. I'll put it in the notes for the re-write. No promises that we'll see that any time soon, but I'll ensure it gets noticed, that much I can confirm.
  6. Add in the hood and I'm sure that'd pass inspection. The CRL mentions a high collar in mandarin-style but I am fairly confident with regards to approval that that is pretty darn low on the list of items checked for approval. As we talk about re-writing some of the sections I'll add that to my list of things to talk about changing for clarity. It looks good though, can't wait to see more.
  7. I appreciate you weighing in on this. I do know that red-foreheads have been approved in the past, which is why I raise the question. The poll was to get a general idea but not to use as a means of decision-making. I like your reference with Starkiller, poor wii-users and to think I almost got it on that system because it had multiplayer. I have not pursued the mask-less or working to help anyone interested in the SWTOR options/changes because Patch 2.2 was set to make changes to the image they used. They were planning changes to the models. I suspect the face wasn't changed but that remains to be seen. I have not been playing the game, and I have not seen new screenshots posted. The question I raise then, which sort of hijacks this thread is: How then does it get decided for comic characters as to which image is correct? Are they not all considered C-Canon?
  8. I do like your comment about the weathering aspect. The way Rob paints them has a sort of blend to it and I'm personally a fan of that look. I do agree it certainly is a major key aspect of the character. But the events of the SWTOR storyline blur the line and I am personally in the camp that at the end he's dark as night by the time he is in control of the Foundry. He's mask-less until the final battle. While I agree it helps a lot, Amidala is proving that mask-less gender issues aren't a problem, she's doing awesome stuff with non-masked Starkiller.
  9. No fleshy bits is the goal. Assuming you have the pieces you could take a pic and post it to be certain. I couldn't say past that.
  10. Yes, I added it after. Edit: Found it here: http://www.underarmour.com/shop/us/en/m ... 231797-600
  11. I use product code: 1000377-001-LG from Under Armour. The fabric could stand to be a little darker. There is piping added, and the balaclava I wear is sewn across the front of the neck but not the back.
  12. I don't have a particular color to list or suggest. But if I were to do it myself I'd get this file on my phone: and take it in with me to the store. Depending on your preference, I'd see about getting a color match and have them do that work. If not I'd hunt around and play in the metallic-s, though I'm curious about mixing to get a better/closer match.
  13. Nicely done. I'll keep an eye on it in the GML threads when it gets there.
  14. Short of making a larger cuirass, I think you've done the right thing. As for the capelet, you've reminded me that I want to make a video of how "I" put my costume on. I have a way in particular that I manage to get everything right except that I can't get my hood up/velcroed in place. As for going around, I'm not quite sure that would be correct either. I've been looking at the photos a lot to try and figure it out. I think almost that it needs to terminate just below the bottom edge of the back cuirass. That of course creates an issue for us securing it on our bodies. Again, not something that I think should come up for approval, but this is something to bring it to the next level.
  15. I think you have done a really great job adjusting it. For approval-sake you're probably a lot closer than you think. Frankly, I think you ought to submit and you should be fine. I say that with the subtext that I'd really encourage you to make a few improvements here and there to make things a little more custom to your profile. The capelet seems a bit snug on your shoulders, it could be looser or perhaps need a larger one. It looks fine but perhaps a little tight. Bless you and your hood being down, by the way. Kudos. I'm personally not a fan of the upper velcro straps that hold the front and the back together. It is on mine and many others, and as we progress to working the back armor into the outfit more, I don't like how they terminate and do not lead to anywhere. It's a pet project in my head and something I think we as costumers could work to improve upon. Rob's design is great, we can make it better. Otherwise, I would work on making the joint between front and back seem a little more natural, but I really do think you've done a great job making it to your size already. Perhaps use a line of velcro running vertically to help smooth the silver parts together and not have them bunch different from each other. Again, kudos, I really think you ought to consider submitting very soon.
  16. Absolutely right. Rigid is used to be a guide as far as material, but whether plastic, concrete, metal, stiff foam, you want something durable that will portray the costume as accurately as possible. Outside of that limitation you're going to want something you can work with and something that is going to be as comfortable as possible. Accuracy in the details is the thing I would stress most.
  17. Minimize the overlap would be my vote, but still make them fit. Reminds me, one of my straps popped last event...
  18. Thanks for asking, great question. Even better, I went back to the CRL to just make sure I knew which photos we were talking about, only to find that we've finally got photos for all the parts! I'm glad that updated finally. The armor you're looking at is actually not leather at all but a painted polyurethane plastic. Evidenced by the heatgun I took to mine recently to give it a more fitting curve to my body, and the snap I heard when I bent something wrong the other day.
  19. They likely worked at the time, perhaps due to account inactivity though they don't.
  20. Here is why you might have an issue making pants work: You are not the first and probably won't be the last looking to do a gathered look versus the panels on the caplet. I would advise that if you can do it and make lit look nice, go for it, but it's going to be quite a bit of fabric to make look nice. Even with the sewn pieces like we have, if not worn correctly, they still can look like a bantha's rear. I've had a few photos I went "dang, I missed that, I wish someone told me" and worst of all, no one besides you is going to know what it needs to look like, no matter how many times you try to show/tell them. To combat the issues with the soft parts you need to find ways to keep stuff in place while moving around, because trying to fix it yourself might frankly be impossible, and helpers who know what you really need fixed aren't always available. There's a fabric thread up here near the top of the list where Aysel points out some fabric suggestions. As for the body suit, I think it's safe to call the balaclava a highly-suggested recommendation. The idea being that your skin is covered. When looking for approval it's going to be the details on the armor, everything lining up and all of the above. As this is a scratch-build, I suggest going down to Amidala's thread in the Starkiller boards, she's done a great example with photoshop of laying the character over a picture of herself, it has resulted really well proportioned costumes, that might help to make sure all the details with Revan's chest piece proportion out right for you.

    Sinya Costume

Kudos all around, you have really knocked it out of the park. Even better catching the direction change. I cannot wait to see this submitted in the approval threads! Also, eyebrow shaving dedication, nothing but respect for going the extra mile!
  22. The MWA fabric is like a nylon, I'm actually terrible with fabric types, my experience is usually going in and picking out what looks/feels best. I know it's smooth and shiny with the vertical stitches. Also, acetone will get superglue out of it, if applied well. Crazy! Sorry if that's not more helpful, Aysel is more the fabric Queen, I'm not much help in that area.
  23. Based on the original post, it appears to be a custom character, which aren't approved in the 501st, but are in the Dark Empire. Darth Marr, while from the MMO, chock-full of custom characters, is an NPC, with an established story and appearance. (Also appears in some of the comics) The reason I suggested him specifically (though Baras, and all of the Dark Council would also be viable) is because his gear is also worn by a Sith Marauder if you get the appropriate raid/pvp gear (I forget which set it is, I believe it is the PVP set). It would be a way to work within the system and still get a desired appearance. In the case of something similar to the Sith Acolyte, I would encourage finding an NPC within the game that has the look desired and make that, down to the last detail, for approval. Still, I would suggest submitting photos and such before beginning to ensure that it is 501st approvable, if that's what was desired.
  24. I tend to agree, though it being from outside the movies makes me wonder if they will actually pick it up. Please keep us up to date on what sort of response you get, and if needed we can get Thomas and a few other folks into a discussion to get a best possible answer.
