  1. Hey! Saw you at ECEE but didn't get a chance to say Hi as I was in the photo booth. Didn't see you kit up in your Nihilus sadly, but I hope you had fun at the con. Cheers, Nef
  2. Hey Jason! Glad to see you over here on the Flagship forums. I'm the Nihilus that is currently trooping with the Badlands Garrison. Don't panic too much over the lightsaber. While it is very cool to have, it is not required for approval into the 501st. So focus on getting the costume done and approved and then worry about the lightsaber afterwards. It's what I had to do for CCEE last year as I was rushing to get my Nilihus done in time for that event. Edmonton Expo will be an awesome event to début your Nihilus at if you get done in time. I won't be trooping ECEE in my Nihilus, I'm showing off a new costume, so you can hold up the Nihilus torch for Badlands! Cheers, Nef
  3. Awww!! You got a picture of my sweetheart as Zayne!
  4. Yay! Thank you for sharing. Your photos turned out way better then mine did.
  5. Some Canada Day silliness from the troop we did. Darth Nihilus shows off his mad hop scotch skills to the Mando's and Sand people. Nihilus and his trusty steed! The whole gang after the troop having a bit of fun for the group photo. All I have to say is I was very impressed the TK was able to make it up to the top of the monkey bars all on his own. It was pretty funny to watch him get down though, hehe. Cheers, Deez
  6. Just finished this poster commission and thought I would share it. Did the entire illustration in Photoshop. I'm pretty pleased with how it came out! If anyone is interested, I do have 2 open slots for commission work at this time. Cheers, Nef
  7. I meant to post this in the Off Topic area, and put it here by accident. Ooops! If it's in the wrong place, could an admin move it? Thanks! Cheers, Nef
  8. Hello, We're been having a bit of fun lately in our local garrison, as well as a fun day out in the mountains for a photo shoot. I thought I would share some of the pictures we've taken. I know a lot of these won't seem very "in character", but we like to have our fun behind the scenes, and sometimes in the scene too! The garrison hasn't had a silly video of photo's put together for sometime and many members wanted another one, so I thought I'd put something together. I was also taking Adobe Flash at the time in class so I figured I would kill 2 birds with one stone, so to speak. The whole thing was done in Flash, with all the animation and vector art done by me. The stormtrooper took the most time out of everything to make and animate. Youtube Link: My best friend Jojo (Lux from League of Legends), my boyfriend (The Mandalorian) and I headed out to Banff National Park to take some photo's of our costumes. We had a great day scaring hikers, as well as coming up with many silly, and awesome, photographs. Flickr Link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/39465850@N ... 171831842/ I shared the link to the Banff photoshoot on the Mercs forums and Kelan Ord did an amazing photoshop edit to one of the pictures that I really like. I thought I would share his creation here too. And lastly, got some sweet new bling on my car! I already have the Imperial Cog on the back door and the Mass Effect Alliance crest on the hood of the car. Time to add some Mandalorian stuff since my costume is almost complete. Current projects that are going on and Star Wars related are an illustration for a Mandalorian friend. As well as a super silly little interactive website where you can dress up sith lords in cute accessories. Sneak Peek! Illustration so far, hoping to have it done this week. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn27 ... _sofar.jpg Darth Nihilus sporting a new hat! http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn27 ... n/n_1f.png Sorry for the long post. Just wanted to share some of the laughs our group has been having lately! Hope you enjoy. If anyone else has some fun pictures, or anything else, post them up! It's great to see how other garrisons get their dose of fun into troops and other every day life. Cheers, Nef
  9. It doesn't say anything directly about gauntlets, just to have "no obvious flair". I know from personal experience however, men's leather gloves tend to look a bit big on us ladies skinny forearms, hehehe. The only other option for gloves is going with actual girl gloves, and they end up being too skinny. It's an annoying problem. Took me ages to find decent Nihilus gloves. Costume looks really good! Cheers, Nef
  10. If you are cutting the fabric you are going to want to hem it to stop it from unravelling. Don't just cut it and wear it! If you know someone with a serger, they could also finish the edge for you. With any fabric, and especially stretch fabric, you have to worry about stress on the seams. Depending on how much pull is on the seams of the suit, it will eventually over time start to pull. If you do notice areas that are starting to pull (usually areas that bend, like elbows and knees) then you can add another row of stitches to re-enforce the area. The other thing is keep velcro away form it! It likes to pull Lycra and then you get that fuzzy look on the fabric. If you find that the mask gets too uncomfortable pressing on your face, you can use a theatre neutral mask. It's what I have. Basically I have a Male blank plastic mask painted black with some foam added for padding against my face. Then I put the spandex black out mask over that. The plastic mask takes the pressure off of my face and it's quite comfortable. Also being a girl, the male mask gives me the appearance of a more manly nose and jaw under the white Nihilus mask, hehe. Here is the type of mask I have: http://donshobbyshop.ca/index.php?page= ... catid=2052 Hope that helps! Cheers, Nef
  11. It's looking really good! I know that feeling of waiting. Thankfully they got back to me pretty quick because they knew I was in a rush trying to get approved for a big convention in town. Only had to wait 4 days before they got back to me, but man.... those were 4 very long days! hehe. Good luck! Cheers, Nef
  12. Great job Sydney, you all look fantastic!
  13. I'm making a Mando at the moment and I agree about the creativity part. I love my Nihilus costume, but it has been a really great change working on a costume I have much more freedom over. I went out with my buddy last weekend and he was in his Mando costume and kept getting called Iron Man, it was pretty funny. Not even remotely the same universe. He had a sense of humour about it as well. You have to when you do obscure costumes. You go into it knowing most people will have no idea who you are, and yes, will even call you something completely wrong. But that usually leads to a conversation and you get to chat to someone about your costume and character, and that is what I love. I get asked if I'm Darth Sidious all the time when I'm in my Nihilus costume. Makes me giggle! Cheers, Nef
  14. Those look great! You must be pleased. I'm looking forward to seeing the whole costume come together. Cheers, Nef

    Hello folks

Welcome! We probably all know how you feel. I'm a newbie to armour building so I've been fumbling my way around the Mando forums recently. But when it comes to fabric, I love giving help and advice where I can. You'll get lots of help here at flagship! Cheers, Nef P.S. You might get PM's from me about helmet making, hehe.
  16. Even Sith Lords and Troopers need a break and a chance to catch up on their beauty tips! Question for our lady costumers: Do you prefer to costume female or male characters, and why? Personally for me it's not a case of choosing male or female, but how interesting the costume is or character is. I've got an equal mix of female and male costumes I like to wear. It is however, a lot of fun to dress as Nihilus and have people assume I'm a man. Obviously you have to get used to it with these types of costumes, as people usually assume only men dress as Stormtroopers and only women go as slave Leia (yes I know a man who does a very convincing Leia). But that is part of the fun when I actually speak and people are shocked it's a girl under the white mask. Cheers, Nef
  17. A quick observation, the cape should sit back off the shoulders. It almost sweeps back from the knot point, it doesn't hang over the shoulders in the front. Looking good so far! Cheers, Nef
  18. I look forward to seeing how it looks. Not many people choose to do the KOTOR version of Nihilus. It looks like it should be easier to make, but often it ends up being harder then the COTF version. It'll be great to see your costume! Cheers, Nef
  19. We have at least 2 troops every weekend in May, and it's looking like June is starting to fill up too. I'll be busy! One from last weekend. Cheers, Nef
  20. So exciting! Looking forward to seeing photo's! Cheers, Nef
  21. Girls of the Empire need a little beauty advice now and then. (Yes, we're all females under the costumes, hehe.) Cheers, Nef
  22. Well I have now been a member of the 501st for 2 weeks, and in that time I've done 5 troops! Here is one from Sunday. Cheers, Nef
