  1. Our garrison just did a troop for our local philharmonic orchestra with the John Williams concert. We've done a few times in the past and it is always a lot of fun. Last weekend I got to be one of the lucky ones picked to escort the conductor on stage and stand up there while they played the Imperial March. It was amazing!

One of our troopers took some video of the end of the concert and the encore where we come on stage.

As for sabres, here is a picture of the two hilts that I use. The shiny one with the switch showing is the Ultra saber.

    Cheers!

That's awesome, I can't wait to see him. Looking at saberforge as well now. Seeing what the garrison says about it before I order.

  2. My Nihilus hilt was made by Moonbase Creations, the gentleman who made it is on these forums as Paradoxdj. You could try messaging him as well. Before getting my Nihilus hilt, I just used a basic plan silver hilt from Ultra Sabers.

Keep in mind that a sabre is not required for 501st approval, just the costume. So a lot of costumers get the outfit first, get approved, and then look at getting a weapon. Just a suggestion. Some start with the lightsaber right away as it is a pretty cool thing to have. ;)

    Cheers!

Great to know, I'll go a head and send him a PM. I've wanted a saber since I was a little kid(a nice saber that is). I think it will also motivate me to get the rest done. Plus I'd like to have it for Boston Comic Con and the John Williams concert in August. I'm searching ultra sabers right now and... SO MANY OPTIONS/LEVELS!!! Do you happen to have any pictures of the two you mentioned?

  3. I used the Simplictiy pattern 5840 to make my Nihilus tunics. It is a fairly easy pattern to follow and modify as needed.

Yes, the fabric on the sleeves is different to everything else, so you only need a small amount of that fabric.

One of the best ways to make the crown piece that is easy and fairly cheap is to use Worbla or Wonderflex. Both work great!

I normally take Nihilus robe commissions as well, but I am booked for the year at the moment. Making 2 sets in the next couple weeks for clients. Always fun making more Nihilus stuff! It really is an easy costume to learn to sew. The great thing is not needing to hem the skirts, just weathering them, so that makes it much easier too. I can take pictures of my next robe progress and post them if you need any visual reference.

    Cheers,

    Nef

Any pictures you are willing to take  for reference would be great! It'll probably be a while until I start due to the fact that I'm getting married in October and I don't think she'd like to see any extra funds going elsewhere  :-)  It is possible that I could do little bits here and there before hand though...

  4. Ok, so I've found my fabric thanks to Scott's tutorial. From what I can tell this whole thing is made from only the one fabric, correct? Also any tips on how to make a head form without using fiberglass?

  5. As my fellow member of NG also points out - it´s not that hard to make by yourself...  most I know make their own costumes, so it´s hard for me to give advices on, where to buy a premade one, haven´t seen anyone else then WA...

I made a Nihilus COFT for a fellow member of NG and it took me and my mum only 1 week - I´m not that good with a sewing machine either, but one learns

With good patterns, you can´t go wrong... I would print out the CRL from in here, take it with me to a fabric store and get some help there - perhaps they also have someone, who could sew it ??

I can´t remember, how much the price were to make this, but it wasn´t as pricy as WA.

Ok thanks. Did you draw up your own patterns or are there some floating around out there? That seems to be the trickiest part for me(for everyone?) Thanks again!

  6. Hi and welcome

Well it´s hard to see all the details on the pics, and it looks to have potentiale- but you´ll still have to make mods on it... + get the right belt, gloves and boots..

I think it´s a very high price to pay for something, that still needs a lot of work...

Thanks for the feedback. Could you suggest some other place to look for pre built costume pieces? The only other place I saw was cosplayhouse and it doesn't look ver nice. What would you say the average cost of this costume is? I'd like to do it over a year, year and a half tops and stretch it out. I find that when I try to sew(a handful of time) I spend money on material and screw them up so I'd really just like to have this made instead of making it myself. Thanks for all the advice.
