  1. I think that's doable. I'd try to get it submitted as such before you go buy new boots.
  2. Man, you're making me want to upgrade mine something fierce now lol. Can't wait to see it done!
  3. Well, what I'd say is go ahead with your build and post photos of the two together up on your garrison forums in a WIP thread before you do anything else. If the GML doesn't take issue with it then you may not have to do anything or buy anything else. For the amount of time that it would take to ask, I think that's worth it isn't it?
  4. Just the elastic, especially with one that wide. I've seen GMLs who say no to it. It will depend on your GML though. If the shin guards totally cover the elastic, you'll have an easier time getting away with it I'd imagine (score one for comic-book version).
  5. Good news is I've seen Maras approved with that colour of red hair, so unless your GML gets a bee in their bonnet it's probably ok. I went for an orange-y-er colour, but that's cause I fell in love with her from the books where they describe it as "fire". Gloves & shins look solid to me. Can you take the lip off the belt buckle? She isn't pictured with a raised edge anywhere. The boots I think are going to be down to your GML. I've seen folks with similar approved and rejected with similar, so I'd see what your garrison says.
  6. You can absolutely ask for advice. What I would actually do is put a build thread up on your Garrison forum and ask what they thought. They won't be able to tell you that it will definitely clear, but they can say if they don't think it will, which is as good, right?
  7. If you can get the decal/wording off the second personally I think both would be ok, but I'd double check with your own GML.
  8. Looking at upgrading my Mara and I want to make her cape. My problem is the clasp. Unfortunately my Google Fu is failing. Right now, I can't find any references for the clasp other than what Pam has up on her website chucrew.com. Everything else I find doesn't show the clasp well at all or is someone else's costume piece. Does anyone have any comic references for the clasp? I don't really want to base it off someone else's costume piece if I can find actual references.
  9. My friend did Grievous, but he's not a costume. More like a giant puppet and my friend is hidden in the cape. It's very cool, but probably the only way it could be done and "look right". Otherwise his movements look too human, imo. That being said, you can always build it without getting approved! Would love to see another version.
  10. Seconding eBay. Lots of options there.
  11. On the Worbla, I found it super easy, but not with the traditional craft foam. The sandwich method of worbla is great, but not as easy to get to work when you're actually going all around the leg. I had to revert to thick foam and just folding over the edges for my comic style shin guards cause otherwise it just wasn't happy. Maybe you'll have better luck than me, but I got 5mm foam which worked first time like a charm. The sandwich method literally just landed me a pile of wonky crap, sadly. 12. I would probably try to go with non-taffeta if you can find something similar. Taffeta usually has a sheen to it that I don't think you want for this costume. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. I'm fairly confident that all of hose measurements are ones you need to determine based on your girlfriend's body. I recommend playing with paper to create patterns and check how they look on her. You need to make sure it proportionately looks good on her, not just some measurements other people's bodies need. 14. I think if you don't do his half-naked version that you will be able to use the armour and padding to make yourself look bigger than you are. It's part of the magic of costuming. Anyone can be anything.
  15. Hmm, I'm not sure I've ever seen enough genuine images of it to really be of help, but if you have references, I'd be happy to take a look. I kinda wonder if it should be more like undies with a loincloth on top, but really not sure from my brief google search.
  16. I'd go read in the Mara Jade section of the forum and see what others have posted. The Arica COstume Stardards Blue Dress post in particular has lots of information. I always try to source everything I need first, and then tackle the hardest thing first.
  17. Fabric painting is not like other painting in that you're kind of expected to do it indoors. I would not use a spray paint (I know of none suitable for fabric that don't look crap or crack) and would just hand paint with fabric paint if that's what you want to do. However, I would recommend the vinyl transfers. Having seen them in person they look particularly swish. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. I'm on the Number 2 train as well. I'd be concerned about the charmeuse as it can end up looking cheap when out next to other fabrics IMO and the shiny side is bleeding through to the back more than I think is right.
  19. Definitely leaning to the middle one. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  20. What is the exact kind of makeup? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  21. I'm not familiar enough with the costume to give any helpful commentary on it. Ask for better explanation. If it's irrational, they will have to at least put it into words. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
