Small update on the costume:
I have had no internet since friday and so I spent some time tweaking the costume. I fixed the problems I had with the chest strapping and the way the robes were held in place. I also weathered the armour by giving it a black wash to dull down the shinyness of the silver and then took a few more pics.
With robes off:
With lightsaber (not photoshopped , just low lighting)
And a couple of photoshopped images with the strongest reference images I used to create the costume. I think I need to practice getting my leg straighter for the jump kick lol. This was one of the clearest images of this Sith character from the first trailer.
this comparison was before the weathering:

Just thought I'd join in with the welcomes here.
Hi Zannah!
-
I gotta say for a first attempt that's not so bad. It sounds like you know what needs to be fixed between this and a version 2.0.
and I'm digging your mask, beautiful work there.
Katie
Thanks for the comment on my mask, this costume is effectively version 2 - the first time I made the armour from sintra which always looked a bit flat to me, the EVA foam however gives it more depth.
-
That looks amazing. I especially like the detailing on the mask. Is that sintra or EVA?
The mask was made from cardboard/paper mache then given some coats of resin before painting.
-
Here is my costume so far (had chance to do a little bit today).
I intially used silver rub n buff for the armour, then used a 50/50 mix of silver and black to try to get it more "gunmetal" type colour but in these photos it still looks a little too shiny silver looking so I'll probably try again but more like 75% black to get it dulled down a bit. I also need to figure out the chest piece straps a bit better and I've already curved the top inner corners of the chest piece so they sit tighter on me. Most of the Sintra armour I had initially used has now been replaced with more comfortable EVA foam armour, it's lighter and doesn't nip or pinch as much as the old stuff.

I'll also be doing one of my famous dissections of the acolyte costume once I get the screenies taken.
Awesome, I look forward to seeing it - I guess you wouldn't need any help as you are well versed at making the breakdowns - but if you do just let me know.

Armored Sith Warrior/Acolyte from SW:TOR trailers
Since I first saw the "Deceived" trailer I loved the look of these Armored Sith Warriors that leave the hatch of the stolen Republic ship that crashes through the Coruscant temple walls. The way they light up the darkness with the red light and hum from their sabers, awesome typical Star Wars.
And so I decided to build this costume, for myself as it is quite unlikely that these characters will ever get enough reference material to be considered "501st Canon". I've gathered together images that are available from all over the internet and many many screenshots from the cinematic trailers that feature these Armored Sith (Deceived and Hope trailers).
I'm starting this thread as my collection of references and also will be showing my costume once complete along with some "work in progress". Thumbnail images are clickable for larger versions.
I did contact the artist that worked on these characters in the Hope trailer, although he was unable to release any extra images at least until the game is released, although unfortunate for myself I totally respect that he wouldn't want to jepordise anything work related. He did however refer to these characters as "Sith Acolytes". His website showing his other work is here: http://www.requestdenied.com/
There is one character that has been named in the Deceived novel, that character is Lord Adraas (link: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Adraas). Adraas was chosen by Darth Angral to lead the fifty Sith warriors on board a stolen Republic shuttle for an attack on the Jedi Temple during the Sacking of Coruscant.
Adraas wears the armour that I have tried to re-create, although a lot of the deceived trailer is quite dark and it can be hard to pick out some details there are still some obvious pieces to the armour that can be picked out. Most notable at first glance are the metal look helmet and the black cloak with red stripes on the sleeves. Then there are armour parts for the chest, wrists and legs(upper and lower legs). The abdomen part I was a little unsure about. The helmet also appears to have some fancy filigree style paintwork.
The second cinematic trailer titled "Hope" also featured these Sith Acolytes and this time there were some clearer images, they also showed a different helmet style. The helmet shape remained the same but lacked the red mouth area and also had a less fancy pattern, being more stripy rather than filigree swirls, perhaps hinting at different marking for rank or merely personal customisation.
Now, like I said earlier the main reference images have all really come from the cinematic trailers, but there have been a couple more circulating the web. One from a screen capture of an interview with one of the employees of Blur Studios and another from an unknown (to me) source.
Whether this piece of artwork was from an official source I am not sure, however this artwork has been used on the bioware stages at gamescon and behind the Malgus statue at San Diego Comic Con. The same artwork is also used on the box art for the Collector's Edition of the SW:TOR game.
**Edit. Now that I have the game in my hand I can see that this piece of artwork is featured on the back of the standard edition too**
Some reference pictures can be found at http://photobucket.com/SWTORsith (anybody can add to the group album)
It has also been noted that the armour is very similar in design to the armored Jedi from these cinematic trailers, the crotch/abdomen area varies slightly along with the belt, and also the Jedi version appears to have small areas of lighting (and no helmet of course), this means some of the clearer images of the Jedi armour could be used to fill in some areas of ambiguity perhaps. (The armoured Jedi has some very clear shots in the third cinematic trailer "Return").

My wicked armor has just posted up his version of the mask from the Hope trailer onto his facebook page. It looks amazing and make me want to refine mine now.

Lol, I only just discovered that I have an (attempt at) Adraas costume. As far as I was aware these characters were still un-named Acolytes, but it's nice to discover that at least one was named.
And thank you for your generous praise.
-
It would appear that one of these characters has now been given a name, Adraas: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Adraas
......although I am not sure how official that is (and I haven't read the book myself).
-
Thanks for your reply Thomas, this costume will no doubt always just be one of those un-named background characters and its original creation was just for Halloween anyway, I just liked these characters enough to continue on the costume after the event.
Also of course the idea of this costume (and all costumes in general) was for fun. And fun was had this week when the UK got hit with some decent snow. I decided as a tribute to Irvin Kershner I would go play in this "Hoth" weather in my costume and get some photos.
One of the photos was edited into my new Desktop Wallpaper:

Your costume looks astonishing good. I really like this particular outfit.
I'm curious about your Halloween experiences. I fear that many might confuse you with these horse-riding "demons" from Lord of the Rings.
Fortunately the lightsaber tends to sway the costume back towards Star Wars .
But yeah for Halloween my intention was to simply have a costume that looked reasonably dark and people liked the costume even though they had no clue what is was supposed to be, lol.
I'm currently working on making the armour a little darker (at the moment the armor pieces kinda stand out a little bit too much) and still working on boot armour that is more comfortable and robust.
****edit**** I've done a little more work on this, mainly on the lower legs/feet and added some upto date pictures
I still haven't seen another person attempt this costume and I hope for now that this is seen as a fair representation of the character from the trailers. I've posted this in off-topic bacause as I understand it the character doesn't yet have enough background references to be "official".
-
That looks like a great looking costume to me.
-
True about the armor although you can see on this screenshot the extended flesh/skin on the brows and jaw-line. Depending on how you can customise your character, the extra flesh might vary. Perhaps this screenshot just shows a "pretty Sith".
-
They've announced Sith Purebloods are going to be playable characters in SW:TOR now .
-
I haven't quite figured out how I am going to do the boots yet, my Halloween ones kind of gave up on me while trying to run /walk quickly. I need to find a way to make them comfortable enough and also robust. I'm sure I'll figure it out soon enough. For now here is another updated pic:
I doubt this costume will ever count as "Canon" enough for the 501st, so far it has only appeared in 2 trailers for 1 game, but I'll have fun with it all the same as I really like the character and kinda like the fact that I haven't seen another version of the costume yet.
I've also got a low quality video

Its still very nice!! - I'm meeting the owner of JQ Sabers tonight to discuss our working relationship for me designing sabers Can't wait!!
My Revan and Mara Jade (g/f is doing Mara Jade costume) will be my 'sales tools' for conventions when they are made...
I now do design work for for JQ
Gratz on that! JQsabers seem to be the best source of saber parts for us in the UK, I bought a couple of conversion kits for force FX lightsabers and a couple of dueling blades from them a couple of years ago and their communication through emails was very polite and friendly.
-
Here is my completed Revan (a few small details are coming - enclosed bracers and rings)
So chuffed!!!! Had its first troop yesterday and went down very well
Where where? I wanna see it! :
I think you forgot to link the picture.

That looks great!
I always love how contact lenses can make such a difference to how people look. A simple thing like the contacts can make you seem almost "non-human" on their own, and added to the extra skin effects it is all pulled together so well.
-
That looks amazing , well done.

And look on the bright side: You need to watch the new awesome TOR trailer multiple times for research!
Oh, don't you just know it
After emailing one of the guys at blur that worked on the trailers I found out they referred to these characters as Sith Acolytes rather than Sith Warriors/Marauders that I had previously called them. Unfortunately he was unable to send me more detailed images like the ones that are available of Darth Malgus* and the Sith trooper* although that may change once the game has been released. It was good of him to even reply to me.
I did manage to find one decent full length shot of one of these Acolytes though - stood with a height chart behind him at around 6'6".
*(a different artist that works at Blur has these characters up on his website)

These guys are back in the latest SWTOR hope trailer.
The details on the clearest image of this helmet are slightly different, less gothic looking and more "techy". Although one of the less fortunate Sith that gets stabbed still has the "swirly" pattern, they certainly don't all look exactly the same.
Some motivation to perhaps re-do this costume.

Indeed! Can't wait, although I do have to wait until 22nd December for EU release
