  1. Thanks for the feedback guys,

    Re: Neck-seal

Point taken. This has been sitting in my drawer for the last 6 months, so it probably could have done with a good ironing to make it lie flat. I can stitch some velcro to it, if required.

    Re: Beltbuckle:

The vertical cross piece is actually darkened a fair bit, and it's only the flash-bounce which highlights it in the photos. To avoid this, I've coated it in thick plastic shrink-wrap stuff, which works better than the paint. The CRL belt-buckle actually has the vertical showing... not sure if this could be altered?

    Re: Vambraces:

There's nothing in the CRL about seams - although some of the reference images have them. Should this be corrected on the CRL?

    Re: O-rings:

I knew I forgot something. Added.

By the by, has everybody caught the latest episode of Clone Wars? (S.03 E.12?)

Our girl has a starring role, and she looks gorgeous!

  2. More progress... seems I only get a chance to work on Ventress every six months or so. Might very well be the longest Ventress build thread in existance??

Anyway, I've redone the belts, because the last ones were a wee bit ordinary.

I've also re-sewn the stripes on the shirt, and neatened the neckbrace.

I haven't re-done the makeup for these shots, as I was just too impatient! I'm hoping to have these submitted very shortly, so any feedback would be most appreciated!

  3. We had an armour party today, so I thought it was time to try and have another go at the makeup. One of my garrison buddies made me a few spare bald caps, so I guess I had no more excuses not to give it a try.

I couldn't quite believe just how long it took to create an even colour! My poor long-suffering TK Commander spent about 80 minutes going over and over and over it. I think the big lesson I learned from today was - GET AN AIRBRUSH! My Garrison buddies still think I'm crackers for attempting to do this with cake makeup, rather than an airbrush....

I'm really happy with it so far... I just need to work out a faster way of doing the makeup, because I dont think I'll be wearing this costume very often if it takes me soooo long to apply the makeup! Total time was around 2.5 hours...

I'm tempted to submit these to my GML to see what he thinks - I'm sure that if I wait until I get everything 110%, I'll never actually complete it!

  4. My Kryolan makeup arrived today. I've heard good reports about the Kryolan Aquacolour, so I decided to give them a go. Apparently, if you mix it with the Kryolan Fixier spray instead of water, you get up to 6 hours of reliable cover. I'll be happy if I get 3 hours.

So... I'll let you all know how it goes.

So... When the parcel arrived I needed to rip open the package like a little kid at Christmas, and try out all my new toys. <3

I really need some facepainting lessons. Our Garrison has an Armour Party next weekend, so I'm going to get a few of the experts to give me some tips.

    hehe, anyway, here's tonights results.

(The stripes really do give you Attitude. Thanks LadyB for the templates! They ROCK!)

  5. Come Padawan. Your fall shall be my ascension to the Sith.

I know I've got a few tweaks I need to make:

    • Buckle needs to be 'chrome' look
    • Neck Seal needs to be more fitted at the shoulders
    • I need to work out Makeup - Tattoos and Bald Caps
    • I need to work out a better way of fixing the belts up

Skirt. V1.1 - Skirt has been shortened so that I wont break my neck, and a black slip sewn in for modesty!

    Neck Seal. v4.0

I'm really happy with the way this one sits. I'm yet to add the banded detail (will be hand done) but I wanted to ask if it would be ok to put a few darts in the shoulder area to make it more fitted.

    Vambraces v2.0

I bought nicer pleather to make these out of and hemmed these along all cut edges. They're much more comfortable to wear, and fit a bit more snugly.

    IMG_0220.JPG

Image showing the crossed belts at the back. I'm pleased with the way the belts have come together, however - how did everybody else secure their belt buckles on at the front? At the moment, this belt buckle is being held on with good hope and gaffa tape.

Big thanks to my favorite Trooper Commander, Cobra, who has pinned hems, pinned me, and pinned himself on many occasion!

  6. LadyB, I've already cut the leather pieces out. I formed a pattern by wrapping myself in cardboard and drawing the belts on. They fit quite well, so now I'm just dying the leather...

The belt buckle is actually a light fitting that's been modified a little bit! :D I've sprayed it with silver paint, so now I'm just building a protective glossy coat.

Once the leather is finished, I'll post some more images!

    Cheers,

    Mox

  7. I have to admit, the skirt is only half way there. It's incredibly long, even with those massive boots on. I've rolled up the skirt so that I can at least stand up without stepping on the hem and falling flat on my face! I'll have access to an overlocker shortly, so I'll be hemming it all, and doing a nice waistband at that point.

I've now completed the belts, but the leather now needs to be dyed - and the buckle still needs a few coats of strong gloss.

My only fear is the neckbrace. I've got a pattern for it, but I'm still anxious about it all.

  8. Hi there guys and gals,

Well, after a year of having my Ventress sitting on the shelf, I thought it best to start everything up again!

Tonight, I hemmed the skirt, and created some vambraces - while tweaking my neckbrace pattern.

Can somebody please take a peek at these bits and pieces, and let me know if I need to adjust anything?

Everything so far, (sans makeup, belts, neckbrace)

    IMG_0467.JPG

I'm almost at the stage where I want to throw away the top that I made, as the material is a little bit thin - and goes crinkly way too quickly. My only concern is that if I increase the thickness, i'm going to struggle with heat here in Queensland, Australia!

These photos dont really show the horizontal stitching in the top either... it's there! Really it is!!

Anyway, some advice would be really great -

    Cheers,

    Moxxxie

  9. Wow - ok. I've had my poor Asajj in the wardrobe for WAY too long...

    Christmas is a killer.

I've made some slow progress with the neck brace - sewing a test brace from a lovely floral material - leaving all my Garrison buddies thinking that Asajj has gone all soft and fuzzy!

I think it's now time to start the real deal.

I'll try and get some new pictures and post them up soon.

    :) Moxxxie

  10. Black is always very striking...

Having said that, silver nails would look pretty good too. OPI do a really great silver polish that I've been eyeing off for a while.

I wonder if Sith Apprentices are permitted to visit a manicurist...

  11. I've been making TK neck seals for a fair while now, so I'm getting good at making customised sizing for necks, etc. (Some blokes have HUGE necks, btw!)

I started playing around with some concepts for the 'folds' in the neck seal last night... What have other people done? I've done a fold with a row of stitching on the top to flatten the pleather out a bit, otherwise it looks really bulky... The other option was to have several layers, or flaps of pleather so that I get the same effect....

Sakara - Thank you! That's actually the image that I'm modeling my whole costume on!

  12. Well, they arrived!! And I couldn't be happier!

They're actually brighter than the FX Vader saber that I have, so I'm a little impressed. The only thing they're missing is the sound effects, but I'm sure I can find a sound board somewhere that will fit the bill.

Still yet to do the final vambraces or neck seal - but my bald cap arrived so once I get a free weekend I'll post some progress shots.

  13. I had scoped out all the electronic supplies in order to make my own, but I simply dont have the time at the moment - and I need to have everything completed by August.

    So... I'm getting the Ultrasabers.

It should be fairly simple to modify the hilts to make it a little more Ventressy.

As soon as they arrive (and I stop giggling, and clapping, and acting like a hyperactive child on christmas morning) I'll take some pics and post my totally unbiased review. Erm...

At some stage down the track, I'll get a soundboard to pop into both hilts to make that lovely intimidating hum.

Anything to scare the local Jedi...

  14. Well, my sabers are in the mail - and quite frankly it would be impossible for me to get any more excited!!! :D

I've done a mock-up of my neck seal, and it should fit the bill. I've managed to source some non-shiney PVC "pleather" type stuff, so I'll give that a shot and see if it works.

I've now just got to do the final run of the vambraces, and somehow make myself a belt that I'm happy with.

In any case, I'll hopefully get some time to do some progress photos this week and would love hearing back from everybody!

    Cheers!

    Jacqui

  15. Hi there Lads and Lasses!

Another new Ventress in the making - I've already lined up my boots, fake-up, neck-seal - so I just have to make a pattern for the bodice, belts and the skirts (should be fairly easy) before starting the hardest part - the damn sabers!

I'm trying to find two Force FX Maul sabers, so I can modify the handles. Has anybody else done this?
