  1. I agree - use natural lighting if possible or else just a bunch of lamps nearby (just make sure then that the light doesn't drown out the costume). I always love seeing more Revan join but can't see any of the detail D": both sides, front and back are good to have plus up-close shots of any detail areas (such as chest area and mask). :)

  2. Just keep yourself busy and try not to stew on it. I know it's super anxiety but you'll hear back! Took my Revan app an entire month haha it's probably like mine where it's getting close to the holidays and people are pretty busy. Hang tight!

  3. I do have that midsection tutorial here on the Revan forums! I find it best to sew the tubing into the vinyl pockets right away by using a zipper foot for your machine :) I've never used stretchy vinyl before but with any stretchy fabric you need to slightly pull it on one or both ends while feeding it through the sewing machine.

  4. This is looking great!! :D

Don't worry about the visor - mine's smaller too. I also noticed that a handful of people have larger visors and I think that's just personal choice for visibility - both are just fine I think. You could also try bending the top of the visor out more, like you had mentioned, but I'm afraid of it pulling and distorting parts of the mask -- it could totally turn out fine too! At least if you try it and it doesn't work you can just push it back into place :) that's the beauty of Worbla! But honestly, I think the visor area looks just fine; to me it doesn't look weird or abnormal.

  5. Awesome!!! I watched the contest video online and saw your costume!! I had remembered seeing it here on the forums -- looked very imposing on stage. Fantastic!!

I also thought it was funny when the emcees said "look at that wand!" It's Sith Lightning lmao /facepalm

  6. Cool! I've never used black worbla before so this is very interesting :) looks like the surface is a lot less grittier than original Worbla.

As for your air pockets (LARGE warts ;D haha) mine did the exact same thing (ty for pics! very helpful!!). If I can remember correctly, when working with mine, this is unavoidable -- only way to fix it is to work with it as you go. Since Worbla hardens quickly you need to work fast, but for preventing large bubbles, you need to work slowly (of course it would be like this -- can't be TOO easy. Thanks Murphy's Law!).

From what I remember, after initially forming the chest piece, any larger bubbles left I heated up (that specific area - so not the whole thing) and massaged it out by poking several small holes up and along the bubble. For example, you make a hole at the bottom, middle, and top of the bubble and gently press out the air up to each hole and proceed to the next one (this will also help prevent wrinkling that would occur by just making, say, one hole in your large bubble).

Omgosh lol "I"ve added pep files as one of the 18 layers of chinese hell". I need to remember to use this one in the future haha Very descriptive and also VERY accurate!! I've only ever worked with one pep file before (my Revan mask) so I can't enlighten you much on that ): suffice to say there are lots of options out there -- one way or another your hand-made Revan CAN get done but you've gotta decide how much literal blood, sweat, and tears you want to put into it :) I give you TONS of credit though for trying something relatively complicated so new to the game and I think you're doing a fantastic job thus far with work and research! Just remember: cosplaying is about fun! If you suddenly feel like making this costume has become a chore and the world is darker don't worry about buying pieces instead of making them. The end result is making people happy at troops and yourself happy by becoming a sweet ass character and hanging with friends - so in the and, where yes making a costume is awesome, buying one (or parts of one) is just as OK!! Cosplay is cosplay regardless of made or bought :)

Yes! Even if your Revan isn't 100% of what you want it to be (I know mine isn't -- I abhor my cloak and hood bahaha) it's that initial costume to get you into the Legion THEEEEN you can start getting serious! >:) my current build (will be second costume in Legion) is taking me a year total to make but damn will it be glorious. Let the first costume be the ride to get you there then you can either upgrade Revan or make/buy/modify another costume!!

and yeah Worbla does kill your fingers ... I've gotten well used to the pain by now haha

  7. Yaaay your WIP thread!! :)

For 'worbla warts' (as I like to call them lol) I just pop and massage them out with a sewing pin or needle (a pin or needle is still a big enough door for the air to be let out of and is a lot easier to clean up than a knife incision). Just be careful when poking a hole with the pin as the pin hole will still leave a mark -- you have to work verrrry carefully with massaging the air out. Honestly, this just takes practice! If you really wanted to you could take some scrap worbla and practice making and getting rid of air holes :)

To avoid the warts is really tricky and in a lot of cases are unavoidable. Best thing you can do is just work with the worbla quickly yet carefully -- ex. you get a lot of big warts when pushing areas in / out greater than a certain angle or degree (ex. like bending your chest piece inward). You could avoid more warts by pressing the plate in slowly (which, yes, with a material that sets very quickly this is difficult haha).

Also, did you use black Worbla or is that just the foam??

As for the mask I also coated mine in Worbla with a pep file under it. The pep file I had used was a lot more complicated and therefor yielded a lot more angles and shapes that gave me a more intricate-looking face. To build up your shapes you could cut out thin pieces of foam and lay them over the desired areas (either glue them down or put Worbla over it -- if you were covering it with Worbla again). I could also give you the pep file I had used for my Revan mask! A friend gave it to me so I'll have to ask her where she got it again hah but restarting from a new base is always another option -- a scary one, yes, but I think we've all had to restart something. Up to you!!

The only thing I'd ask you to be cautious about is that the more Worbla you put on the heavier your mask will get, and if possible, avoid using Gesso as a primer over your Worbla! Although Gesso will fill in problem holes and areas, and be able to be sanded down for a clean surface, it will also make your mask hella heavy -- don't make my mistake lol my mask turned into a helmet haha (at least you can't tell in pics!)

Here are some pics of my mask process that you might find helpful (I regret not taking enough pictures during my Revan build -- it was a rush job and I sort of skipped out on the important step of documenting /facepalm):

  8. I don't see the 7th Sister listed in the databank on 501st.com ): http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FlagshipEclipse_CRL

I don't think it's been officially approved yet. Even if it was missing the CRL (indicated by the white box next to the name) the name '7th Sister' would still be noted. The only inquisitor currently approved, from what I can see, is the Grand Inquisitor.

Let's hope to see an approval soon! :) this is an uber character!!

  9. Dude that saber is so cool!!!! Also, don't give up lady!! With great costumes comes great hardships - but that's what makes the finished product that much more rewarding:) take it from me! I just spent an entire month on making shoes haha finally solved my issue though! If I can so can you!!

  10. lmao secret to defying gravity; now I know! I give you much credit on that as I could never pull that off -- I'd be WAY too nervous wearing something like that!! But I suppose once one loves a character they will conquer just about anything :)

First time with Worbla, eh?! Exciting! I remember my first time working with Worbla haha it was interesting to say the least, but with much practice one can get good at anything!

Oooh you have an air brush - so jelly!! That's on my list of things to buy when I have enough money /cries As for repairs on your armor, that will naturally happen a lot! Just as long as it's not abnormally a lot haha

Glad my feedback gave you a little more confidence; you deserve it! Ty as well for the compliment on the bracers - dry brushing is a weathering technique done by hand that can actually be applied much faster with your air brush! Since I don't have such a nice toy I can't give tips on that but I do know that Kamui Cosplay just came out with a new "Advanced Painting" tutorial book ($5 online e-book --- love my senpai! She taught me how to costume lol) and I think she goes into more detail about that. Her original painting tutorial book covered normal (by hand) dry brushing (if you were curious!! https://www.kamuicosplay.com/tutorial-books/ )

  11. I love your progress so far! Surely, it is intimidating sharing your work online for the whole world to see but you know what? The rest of us are in the same boat! So you're essentially among nerd-family :) I've worked with Worbla a lot - it can be very fun! Hope you're liking the material so far! Just be careful when sanding it -- as you now know, Worbla activates when it reaches a certain temperature so when sanding just make sure to work slowly and carefully :)

As for the rest of your work ...

Lekkus: the paint job on your lekkus are fantastic! Very clean work!

Bikini Top: I'm always curious how people keep these on?! What's your secret!! And my current project of Cad Bane keeps me gym motivated too :D wizard to motivation!!

Belt: always good to have a sturdy belt!

Bracers: the bracers look pretty metallic to me! Are these Worbla as well? For sharing sake, if you were curious about what others might have used, I personally love using Rust-Olleum: Metallic Accents. Applied with dry-brushing for weathering!!

In total: Although I'm not a Darth Talon expert, I think you're doing a fine job :) keep at it and don't be afraid to continue trying new things and expanding your horizons!!
