  1. Hi !

I'm SL-6828 (Joël) of the Swiss Garrison. I currently own an ESB Vader as well as a ROTJ Royal Guard. My plans / costumes in progress: Line officer and Kylo Ren.

I joined the legion in 2010 for the love of costuming with other Star Wars fans. Since then, my garrison to me is more than just cosplayers fellas, but good friend that I enjoy to meet both in and out of costume, to just have a chat and drink.

    See you soon !

Welcome Joel, if there is anything we can help you with, don't hesitate to ask.

  2. 2 years, 3 months, but at last my Saber is complete

More images to come, the pommel was the closest thing available on TCSS, but otherwise the saber is 100% made from parts on TheCustomSaberShop.com, with some powdercoating. The sound is great through the pommel though so I don't mind the minor appearance issue, and the LED in it could melt cheese I think.

At the Custom Saber Shop the extension was custom done, as was the blade holder, but only the blade holder is available for common purchase

The pommel is MPS Pommel syle 3 v 1

Blade holder is LED Blade holder style 27

Sound board is Nano Biscote but honestly sound and LED are kind of up to the creator. NB was my choice for cost reasons and it has a decent battery life.

Here are some more pictures. The rest of the internals I don't particularly know.

Work was done by Austin at Calvary Custom Sabers and it was awesome, however, it definitely took a while.

This isn't meant to raise my saber over any other options, but at least with blade holder and pommel options, a member could quite easily and afford-ably have a lightsaber that is awfully close to the source image.

  3. Simple and black are the easiest way to go, no excessive ridges or treads, otherwise most work. Due to the hakama, the only visible parts are below the ankle, and if you wear pants over the outside of the boot nothing else gets seen anyway.

I am a little concerned about the location of the top of the Big O-Ring(BOR) being placed fairly high, a very common and usually simple fix. Aiming for 50% or lower on the bottom copper band is a good number, but certainly not below the band either. Adjusting the straps to be a little longer is the easiest way to drop the ring.

The color in the picture appears to be a very brown color, and could use some metallic copper added to it unless the lighting is perhaps off a little.

The "eyes" on the chest piece appear to be incorrectly shaped, needing a point in the bottom middle. That being said I believe I have seen a few costumes passed with the oval rounded bottom on the eyes, so it is something that the GML would have to consider. For a more-accurate representation I would certainly change it. For an approval, I am currently unsure if I would require the change or not. Once ready for an actual approval, I can find some discussion history on similar builds and try to establish a precedent on the matter.

Overall the hard pieces appear to be very much in the ballpark of what we're looking for and I definitely look forward to seeing the costume with the soft pieces, we'll have another great Revan to display in our family. :)

  5. I'd be concerned with the mask looking bent as opposed to sculpted, but if you execute, I suspect you can make it look firm like a mask with the right work. As for the chest, again it needs to be fairly rigid looking but I think you're on the right track

As for a shirt, mine is actually underarmour with a balaclava half sewn in the front. The back is not sewn as no one sees the back of my neck and it allows the stretch needed to get over my head. Sewing it won't allow for the stretch as I learned with a few popped stitches.

  6. Only 4-5 photos currently seem visible, and they're the unpainted very early versions. The mask being so iconic is obviously a big focal point to make sure that gets done, it looks like you've got more progress based on a video I saw linked nearby. I would like to see it a little more up close to see what you've got so far. PLUS if you have any more photos to share, I and others would gladly have a look at them. Best of luck and happy creating. :)

  7. Excellent! We can always work on getting a separate area if there is enough interest/information to make a new area on the boards for it. In the mean time, feel free to post some WIP stuff here and if you would like feedback I and others will be happy to take a look at it. I can promise honest, constructive suggestions and will do my best to present challenging but thoughtful questions to help you as needed to help you be even more certain to meet standards for approval. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

  8. Looks good, and congrats on the approval.

There was indeed a small window where folks were being asked to make the eyes silver but a discussion was promptly brought up. If either of you ever decided to switch to black you'd also be welcome to do so. Ultimately it ends up being an option of what you'd like to do in this case, so if you like the silver and want to stick with it, go for it.

  9. Silver/grey/black in a few spots are debateable/negotiable. Consistency is key, and after discussion it was agreed that any of those colors would be acceptable for the 'eyes'. Several of the cloth bits themselves see multiple colors because the model is flat but the skin is painted to create depth with implied lighting.

  10. To answer the initial question, a bit late: en-zozallow is a Costume Mentor for the Detachment and might be considered as close to a GWL as we have in the Detachment. I also am quite versed in the costume if you have questions. Between the two of us and a couple others, most questions can be fielded.

  11. Even prior to the expansion I was actually in favor of the SWTOR Revan making a case for a 501st approval.

However, without an actual applicant a determination won't be officially made. Amidala currently has her Revan from SWTOR approved by the RL but no case has been submitted to the LMO for approval in the 501st to my knowledge.

As for the battle-damage version, I feel it would have an equal if not higher chance at approval but until there's an application it won't be made as a decision most likely.

  12. It has been over 2 years since I initially placed my order with Calvary Custom Sabers, but this is what was built for me, the nice thing is that if you wanted to build something similar, all parts are available on TheCustomSaberShop.com

I'm not pushing this over any particular other option out there, but it was what I had done. The blade holder was designed specific for my order but they liked it enough it is now a readily available item in their inventory now.

  13. I had this piece commissioned for my personal lightsaber I've been waiting about 2 years for. However, the guy at CSS liked it so much it's now available on the website. I'm not advertising one thing over the other, but I thought there might be some folks interested in knowing this product is available:

  14. If you go bigger, keep in mind proportions. A bigger visor means everything else has to be bigger, at the risk of losing accuracy. I personally have a fairly large dome, and once it's hidden behind the mask, with a balaclava, and then the hood placed low enough, I end up looking like everyone else. I actually manage to fit my glasses behind the mask even, with the right placement, I can still see quite well (comparatively speaking).

  15. I'm actually still using the original velcro 40 troops and a couple years later. I should upgrade but it's lower on my to-do list. I put safety pins in the velcro a long time ago because it never stayed attached to the ribbon.

  16. Malfunctions are kind of a way of life, even with 40+ troops in my kit I've still got stuff to fix. Just keep mental notes for when you feel like working on stuff and come up with better ways to do it, you'll figure it out! The hardest part for me is educating helpers on what I need done because often the nitpicking is stuff I can't do myself.
