Good evening everyone! newbie here but hopeful on being able to join the 501'st Imperial Sands garrison out of San Diego. This is my first attempt at costuming and i have never been more excited. i have been lurking these forums for a while and im excited to announce that i got 90% of my costume in the mail tonight. I have a MWA V2 Revan and some good boots i will be trying to modify. I appreciate any help yall might be able to provide since i have little to no clue what im doing. fingers crossed i get to be apart of something as amazing as this group. Cheers!

Hi and welcome to this amazing world :-D

You´re of to a very good start - you can see the CRL here : https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:SL_revan    it is a to-do-list about the costume, there are also lots of great wip threads here on this forum, so do take a look on, how other members have done their costumes.

When I began back in 2012 with a biker scout armor, I was totally lost - but a member helped me out, even when he was deployed to Afghanistan, and is now one of my dearest friends.  What I learned through that process is, you can never ask to many times about something, so do use us as much as you can, and I am sure, that many in here will try their hardest to assist you in getting your costume put together and approved.

If I were you, I would go by the CRL, make a list and just start from the top :-)   and go check off the items as you work through them.

Have fun - looking forward to follow your build.

Awesome thanks for sharing your journey! And believe me, ill be asking tons and tons of questions haha. Right now my focus is on getting the hood right. Finding troubles on getting the hood to sit right and attaching the shawl portion of the hood to the 4 silver rings on the upper breastplate. Trial and error

Ok, here we go, first question. I was messing around with the armor, adjusting the fittings making sure everything looked in place. when i ran into my first roadblock. Some of the leather tabs came undone, looks like there is a black sticky residue from the previous adhesive.  Any recommendations on what kind of glue/binding i should use to fix this? These are the leather straps that suspend the big O ring for the red drape and the black cloth piece

We are here to help you, so no worries in asking too much, there is no such thing ;-)

I use E6000 glue on all my costumes/armor pieces - that should do the trick.

E6000 works, or you can use double sided velcro depending on how it is all attached. I have not seen how the v2 Revan stuff fits together, but I know the original was just double sided velcro to make removal easy.

I also included the velcro option on my custom built armor that still utilizes the straps and belt from my original MWA armor because, well, I am lazy and that was more work that I didn't have time for 😅. The double sided floats inside the receded part of the back of the strap and meets flush with the armor side of the velcro to close up.

Awesome! I been thinking later down the line doing a refitting using more velcro vs adhesives. Just wanted to do this first run to get more comfortable with the whole DIY side of things. Great suggestions!

And hello DarthValkyria! Been reading a lot of your revan related posts they have been a huge help!

Any suggestions or tips on attaching the capelet to the 4 small silver rings on the breast plate? I was going to use small lobster claw rings and pin them to the fabric, but i saw the CRL specifically wants black fabric. Seems simple on paper. But with how much you have the manipulate the hood/capelet once its on it seems difficult trying to plan around it. Im 100% its much easier to implement but im a n00b and probably overthinking it.

Hello!

For the capelet, I use 2 different size smooth keyrings and feed them to 2 small strips seen into the front part of the capelet on each side. So long as you aren't continually stretching the key rings, they stay slim and you can't tell.

Thank you for the tip ill have to experiment with that! I know asking questions is a good thing, but i have to apologize in advance for the barrage that's going to be coming to this thread. Here is an interesting observation i just noticed, didn't even realize it till I was trying to armor on for sizing. Full disclaimer, i did buy this armor second hand since it was a great deal and pretty close to my measurements (granted the armor itself is a little bigger than i am}. However, i found this to look strange (image below). The ribbing on the front and back do not match up, and it seems that the front ribbing is much larger than the back/kidney armor. is this an auto disqualify if im trying to get approved? i looked at the CRL and it just mentioned proportion and a specific no larger than 6 inches for the back. Not really sure what i would do to remedy this aside from just trying to order a new breast/back plate from MWA. Ill shift focus to working on the other pieces for now. looking forward to any info or insight you may have. Cheers!

Ask away, it's what we're here for.

You're fine on the armor because it is meant to be misaligned. He just has wonky armor.

WHEW that is a relief! i know i for sure need to re-do the rings around the kidney armor since 2 of them overlap since i have to cinch the armor a bit tighter. but that looks like a simple processes of just popping them off and regluing them. Hope to have some progress photos posted this weekend of where im at on my project. Thanks again for all the help!

A small update before the long weekend. working on the boots. scuffed the leather up a bit and applied a generous portion of E6000 across the strip paying extra attention to the area's the boot will flex with normal walking. Not much, but its defiantly progress. Next big project i have on the costume is fixing the 12 rings. since the suit i bought was a few inches larger than i am, i find the rings on the kidney armor and ab armor overlap at the connection guess nows the perfect decision time if i test my mettle and attempt adding the red detailing on the bottom of the armor. Cheers.
