Standards Discussion - Starkiller's Sith Robes

Starkiller's Sith Robes outfit is an approved 501st costume now, so we need to get some standards written for that costume. From what I understand, there are two versions of the costume: what is seen in the game, and the more detailed and colorful concept art.

My first question is this: is there enough difference between the two versions to warrant two different sets of standards? Do we need to make one set of standards for the game version, and another set for the concept art version? Or, can we create just one set of standards, and have the concept art "extras" added as optional features in the "may have" section of the standards?

We will need to gather more reference images for this costume... as of right now, we only have a few in the coppermine gallery.

Here's the format for the standards:

A Starkiller Sith Robes Costume Must Have

(These costume elements are required.)

A Starkiller Sith Robes Costume Should Have:

(These costume elements are highly recommended, but are not required.)

A Starkiller Sith Robes Costume May Have:

(These costume elements are optional, but they can really make a costume stand out!)

I hope to start working on this very soon...

It's good to be back..

Also, just wanted to know, if Starkiller (v 1.0) is the actual costume from the video game itself. What I am asking (in clarification,) is if the costume for Starkiller aka Vader's Secret Apprentice is the one that is shown below.

Thanks tons,

Yes, that's Starkiller's "basic costume" (aka Sith Training Gear, TIE Factory Gear or whatever). The pics shown by Pam are these of his (non-canon) Sith Robe.

Don't forget: Starkiller has a whole bunch of costumes in the game.

I found the answer to this on the legion's CRL listing. They are listed seperately, so it looks like we need two sets of standards. No problem, can do. At least they're both pretty simple costumes!

From the CRL:

Sith Robes*

Concept (Black and Red Robe)

TFU (Black Robe, Silver Chest armour)

This is an in-progress set of standards. Sorry about the low quality of the pictures; I couldn't find any good ones online and we don't have screen capture capabilities on Scott's game console, so I had to take pictures of the TV screen instead. Starkiller twitches around too much! If anyone would like to contribute to this, please feel free to post your ideas!

The funny thing about this set of costume standards is that I spent just as much time researching Boba Fett costumes as I did Starkiller. Scott pointed out that here is a very defininte Fett influence on this costume... you can see it in the quilted flak vest, the chest armor, the armor around the base of the neck, and the shoulder bells. Boba also has the piece of fabric that hangs from his left shoulder, while Starkiller wears his cloak thrown back on the right so it's all hanging on his left side.

Costume Standards for Sith Robes Starkiller (Game Version)

SithRobesCloseup.jpg

A Sith Robes Starkiller (Game Version) Costume Must Have:

(These costume elements are required.)

Hair:

* The hair is dark brown, and is cut very short.

(Does the hair really matter in this case? For this costume he always has his hood up, and it's worn so close around his face that you never see his hair at all.)

Shirt:

* The long sleeved shirt is made of a black fabric.

* The sleeves have a dark red stripe just below the elbow on each arm. The stripes should be painted onto the fabric with uneven edges.

* Fragments of a thinner black line are present just above the red stripes.

Flak Vest:

* The sliver-black (gunmetal?) flak vest has vertical lines quilted onto the front and back.

* The partial sleeves are vertically quilted.

* The vest must be long enough to stay tucked into the obi sash.

Something to consider: The Boba Fett flak vest is made from a material called tackle twill. It has a glossy finish which the Boba Fett costumers tone down by spraying it with weathering paints. Instead of saying that Starkiller's vest has to be made from a leather or vinyl finish... should we consider allowing black tackle twill, also? (No satin fabric allowed, though. He's not going to the prom!)

Here's Boba's twill:

This is a tackle twill Boba vest made by LadySewForUs. While Boba's vest is cream colored and is only quilted on the arms, it does show how similar the tackle-twill gloss is to what we can see in Starkiller's outfit.

Chest Armor:

*

Throat Armor:

*

Shoulder Bells:

*

* Silver-black straps made of the same material as the flak vest are used to hold the shoulder bells in place.

SithRobesGame1.jpg

Gloves:

* Black gauntlet style gloves are worn over the sleeves of the shirt.

Pants:

* Black pants are worn under the kama/skirt.

* The pants must be tucked into the boots.

Obi:

* The obi should be made of glossy black leather or pleather material.

* The obi is similar in shape to the Darth Maul obi, with the front portion considerably wider than the rest.

Skirt/Kama:

* The ankle length skirt/kama is made of a black material.

* In the front, the skirt/kama is sewn closed at the top. The sewn portion is approximately 15 cm long. Below that, the front of the skirt/kama remains open.

(Should we be kind and call it a kama? It's a lot longer and fuller than the typical kama, though. I suddenly want to put Mulberry Lipstick in the requirements to go with his skirt. :-D

SithRobesGame2.jpg

Belt:

* The black leather belt is worn at a slight angle, as if the lightsaber worn on the right is pulling that side down.

* The base belt should be approximately 8 cm wide.

* A pair of thin belts, each approximately 2.5 cm wide, are worn over the base belt. These belts are held in place with black leather belt keepers which are spaced at intervals around the waist.

* The small belts have a side-release buclke at the center front.

* A pentagon shaped silver plate is located just to the right side of the side release buckles. It appears to be as wide as the base belt, and it covers both of the smaller belts.

* A small, black leather pouch hangs from the top of the belt to the left side of the side release buckles.

* A covertec lightsaber clip is located on the right side of the belt.

(Does this belt close in the back, like Jedi belts? I don't see an indication that there is an opening on the base belt in the front.)

SithRobesGameBelt.jpg

Boots:

* Heavyweight black boots are worn.

* A silver armor plate is worn over the top of the boots. The plate is held in place by a black/silver strap that goes under the sole of the boot.

Do the boots have the same Anakin-style striped piece on the front as the concept Sith Robes version? It looks like it, but I can't be sure. Darned shadowy game scenes!

Cloak:

* The hooded, sleeveless cloak is made of black fabric.

* The cloak is worn with the right side thrown back over the shoulder to keep the right arm and lightsaber clip uncovered.

normal_SithRobeThrowback.jpg

A Sith Robes Starkiller (Game Version) Costume Should Have:

(These costume elements are highly recommended, but are not required.)

Lightsaber:

* The hilt should resemble the reference images for Starkiller's saber.

* If the lighsaber has a blade, the blade must be red in color.

Still cleaning up the text on this set of standards...

Costume components:

1. Cloak: The hooded, sleeveless cloak is made of black fabric that reaches the ankles. The cloak is worn with the right side thrown back over the shoulder to keep the right arm and lightsaber clip uncovered, and the hood is always worn over the head.

Hair: The costumer’s hair is dark brown, and is cut very short.

Armor Padding: Heavy black padding is worn under the chest armor. This fitted padding covers the chest, shoulders, upper back, and it has a high neck. There is a split that remains slightly open at the front of the throat, while the padding over the chest is secured closed.

Throat Armor: The silver throat armor rests at the base of the neck. It is designed with a curve that goes up and around the throat, and there is a square shaped notch taken from the top center. The armor is attached to the padding from the back side, and has no visible attachment points on the front.

Chest Armor: The silver chest armor is made from two pieces that are mirrored in shape. Each piece has a gentle curve to follow the shape of the chest, and they are made with a material that gives the appearance of solid, sturdy armor. The armor is attached to the padding from the back side, and has no visible attachment points on the front.

Shoulder Bells: The silver shoulder bells are made from a sturdy, solid material. They are curved to follow the shape of the arms, but they are not designed to rest closely against the arms. Wide gunmetal colored straps made of the same material as the flak vest are used to hold the shoulder bells in place.

Flak Vest: The gunmetal (silver-black) flak vest has vertical lines quilted onto the front and back. The partial sleeves are vertically quilted. The vest is long enough to stay tucked into the obi sash. The vest may be constructed with leather, a leatherette material, or a heavy, medium sheen fabric such as tackle twill.

Shirt: The long sleeved shirt is made of a black fabric. The sleeves have a dark red stripe that is approximately 6 cm wide around the elbow on each arm. The stripes are painted on the fabric with faded, uneven edges. Fragments of a thinner black line are present just above the red stripes.

Gloves: Black leather gloves are worn over the sleeves of the shirt. The gauntlet style gloves have no buckles or extra decoration.

Belt: The black leather belt is worn at a slight angle, as if the lightsaber worn on the right is pulling that side down. The base belt is approximately 8 cm wide. Two thin belts, each approximately 2.5 cm wide, are worn over the base belt. These belts are held in place with black leather belt keepers which are spaced at intervals around the waist. The small belts have a side-release buckle at the center front. A pentagon shaped silver plate is located just to the right side of the side release buckles. It is as wide as the base belt, and it covers both of the smaller belts. A small black leather pouch hangs from the top of the belt to the left side of the side release buckles. A Covertec lightsaber clip is located on the right side of the belt. The belt closes in the back.

Obi: The obi is made of glossy black leather or leatherette material. The obi is similar in shape to the Darth Maul obi, with the front portion considerably wider than the rest.

Skirt: The ankle length skirt is made of heavy black material. In the front, the skirt is closed at the top. The closed portion is approximately 15 cm long. Below that, the front of the skirt hangs open.

Pants: Black pants with a relaxed fit are worn tucked into the boots.

Boots: The knee high, heavyweight black boots have a vertically striped panel on the front. The panel is made with a gunmetal color similar to the flak vest. Two black leather straps are wrapped around the top area of the panel to hold it in place. If an additional strap is needed to hold the lower portion of the panel in place, the strap goes under the panel, and not over the top of it.

Boot Armor: A silver armor plate is worn over the top of the boots. The plate is held in place by a gunmetal colored strap that goes under the sole of the boot.

Costume Accessories:

Lightsaber: The hilt resembles the reference images for Starkiller's saber. If the lightsaber has a blade, the blade is red in color.
