Tol Skorr help

Allfather

Recommended Posts

Hey, look...thread resurrection :D

OK...finally found a material I like the color and feel of for the main shirt and pants part. It's not any kind of vinyl (or even leather-looking at all), but the color is an almost exact match for the action figure...and it's breathable. Now I can get started on this again (as soon as I get the custom Mando armor done, anyway).

Hit two other little glitches I thought you guys might be able to help me make some decisions about.

1) The belt buckle. It appears to be silver and some odd, rounded triangle shape. It will just be kind of stuck on the front instead of being an actual buckle. Planning on using a fastex buckle in the back and covering it with a rather large pouch that appears on the action figure. Anyone have any clues as to what kind of design or symbol the buckle would be? Or do I just do my best to make it look as close to the action figure as possible?

2) The saber. This thing has so many different aspects depending on which comic (and even which frame in some of the comics) it shows up in. It just changes from one pic to the other. The action figure has a completely different looking saber than any of the pictures in the comics. My idea as of now, is to do a combination of the comic and action figure saber. The action figure saber is much more to my liking, but it has a different emitter and pommel that the comic pics (the only parts of the saber that seem to stay constant throughout the panels). My thinking was to do the main body like the action figure and add the emitter and pommel style from the comics. This is the closest I could come using TCSSs' saber maker program:

I would paint the wide, flat grooves black and add some black stripes across the part adjacent to the pommel as well as a couple of hex screws to make it closer to one pic in the comics. Any comments or other ideas on the saber?

Thanks for your help on this long and drug out project, guys and gals. Maybe one day it will end up with a wearable costume.

Thanks. Definitely gonna get this one done...eventually. Had too many people tell me it's perfect for me to just drop it.

Looks like I'm going to have to break down and send Jan a message asking about the belt and saber, though. I really hate to pester people I don't know (even if I only "know" them from forums, I still count that as being known to me :) ), but seems very few other people have much opinions on this less-than-well-known character and costume. I really hope it is not stepping over the line to contact her, but I can't come up with any other ideas.

I'll post whatever progress I make when I get some done.

Well, finally broke down and sent Jan an e-mail a couple days ago. Hopefully, she won't mind me asking questions so I can get this thing going again. Should be done with the family's custom Mandos this month and want to jump right back into Tol in June (want to have the costume ready for Dragon Con).

More updates as they happen.

Well...small update.

No actual sewing or building done yet, but I did hear back from Jan and she gave me quite a bit of wonderful news and pointers. I now know I have the correct boots, the buckle is MUCH easier than I had thought, and she approved the saber design as being perfect for Tol. I had hoped to get this done by Dragon Con this year, but that is probably not going to happen due to lack of funds and time (and too many other costumes to get ready for the rest of the family). Hopefully, I will be able to get some extra cash after Dragon and try to get it done by year's end.

I have the materials for the shirt, pants, and under vest. After the e-mails with Jan, I plan to do the chest, shoulder, and forearm armor in a rigid and figured material (most likely plastic, but you never know with me). The belt and pouches should be fairly simple and the kama is a no-brainer. I think if I had the cash for the saber, I could pull this off pretty quickly. Like I said, hope to have some updates and pics after Dragon.

I was about to open a new thread, but seeing this and the work already done BedlamX, I would like to return to work to accommodate the character T.Skorr.

First, I made a pinterest with all references to the character, both in comics and action figure.

As you can see, we can observe from all angles and perspectives costume character. For me, it was easy to devote to it by the existing physical resemblance.

So I willing to work on it. First design the various pieces of armor, especially considering assembly.

The next step for me was to choose a suitable material and after consultation much, opt for Sintra.

Acquired Sintra, and the tools to work it, I am ready to face this project with the greatest of optimism and hope that this character can be added to the CRL and thus have a new "sith" with us.

I will keep you informed of all developments and would appreciate any help possible.

Greetings to all from Toledo, Spain.

And a reminder to BedlamX, I hope you continue with us friend!

Excellent, Continue to share your progress. It is always nice to see more characters from the SW: Republic comics come to life.

More thanks!

The molding process is as follows:

1 We take the reference in a female mold and placed inside part drawing or design armor if I had (as we see above)

2nd From the female mold make a male mold (both molds fit)

3rd between the two molds put the material to work (sintra or fiberglass) previously heated in the case of PVC padding.

4th hope the piece is made and remove the mold (the latter will serve us for many designs)

5th polishing, sanding and painting.

This might be one costume for whose construction I would recommend leather.

Leather would tool well and is a nice match for the reference.

Character creator Jan Duursema seems to draw from similar constructions in her armour. Here we find Jan standing with Doug Wangler. He has been Jan’s model for Quinlan Vos for many years. She made the costume he is wearing from leather.

With the help of a friend and partner of the Spanish Garrison, we will start soon (if it can) with the parties leather and hope to upload progress as soon as possible. In the meantime, I leave this picture rehearsing Tol Skorr during the last mission.
