Maris Brood - Force Unleashed

Hey guys, just wanted to let you guys know that I haven't forgotten about this project and hope to have it done way before Force Unleashed is released.

 

I was talking to a girl about doing my wig and she gave me a deal and then jacked up the price so i am going to have a friend of mine help me out with it. It took me forever and a day to find some back shots of Maris that aren't blurry. With those found I now know that Maris has a long braid of hair that falls to mid-back.

 

Still waiting on any information that might reveal her true "side", but in all honesty, I have a feeling she's going to be as aloof as Mara Jade. I received a photo of the back of her miniatures card and it has a Mandalorian insignia (to make matters worse). I'm hunting down materials to make this character a reality, I promised a makeup test and I will get to it soon. I also have horns being made from a fellow 501st member (using Maul based medium horns).

Eh, the mandolorian symbol on the back of the miniatures card means they've assigned her to the "Fringe" as opposed to one of the good guy sides or the bad guy sides. Neutral....that'll help figure out where she belongs

Hmm- nothing about those sabers seems to make any sense at all. I can't really imagine how those could be very effective...or practical...

 

maybe if the hilts were made out of beskar...

Alright, so some quick questions.

 

At first I thought Maris might have black pants, but I am glad I waited for the Toys to surface before I decided to tackle this. She now officially has brown leather pants, but now I have to decide, are they more of a pleather material (shiny) or are they a suede (matte)? The majority of what I see so far they are matte looking and I found these pants on e-bay that I feel would be perfect.

 

Please let me know what you think because I am winging this and have no clue what I am doing.

For the pants, I personally think a smooth flat leather would look the best like biker pants or something. Same with the top, pleather is too shiny imho.

 

Also since your putting a Mariss costume I thought these might catch your eye

but I cannot see how this can be effective against the reach of an actual lightsaber. I also don't imagine there would be a lot of strength in the handle of it....

 

it seems to make the arms and the handle too vulnerable also.

Well I read before that tonfas are pretty effective weapons against swords and other sharp weapons in the hands of people who know how to use them correctly but then again I'm no expert so what do I know?

Tonfas can be VERY affective against other weapons when used right. We'll have to wait until the game comes out to see how she fights with them.

 

Another note is that most saber weilding folks in the Star Wars films are using Kenjutsu based swordsmanship and a tonfa type weapon i think would be useable in this type of environment.

 

I am not an expert either, but have sparred tonfa vs. bokken (wooden practice katana for lack of better terms) and it worked well. These aren't going to be only tonfa though. These are tonfa with blades....so VK....don't spin them the wrong way and cleave yourself in half

That is my primary problem with them - if there was no lightsaber component to this and it was wielded by someone going up against a sword - I would be less prone to question its effectiveness.

 

By using both - she may be able to use the overlap to protect herself...but it seems to leave both the blade and her arm particularly vulnerable. It is also the 'spinning' that concerns me....who knows

 

you know...this weapon might be more effective if she were wearing beskar bracers / gauntlets - it would allow her to use the weapon like its designed without worrying about them rubbing against her forearms. On that note - if her lightsaber hilts were also made of the beskar - it might also make it effective...but if she goes to block with a simple metal composite used for the hilt...the lightsaber could simply destroy the weapon. -

For that matter this video shows a little sword vs tonfa.... but you can see that with how he generally defends - the area he blocks with corresponds roughly to the area of the 'saber hilt'.

 

 

yea - I am more interested in the weapon after seeing these videos...so ....beskar please, make these weapons work in universe.

I purchased the Maris Brood force unleashed figure today. On the back is says:

 

"Species: Zabrak

Status: Jedi Padawan

Weapon of Choice: Tonfa Lightsabers

Characteristic: Passionate warrior teetering on the bring of the Dark Side"

 

I also now know what the back of her hair looks like. It loops down about mid-back length in the same braids like the rest of her hair.

Truthfully, I think it looks more on the shiny pleather/leather side than the suede kind. The pants you linked to seemed way more Indiana Jones-y than star warsy. Not uber shiney like Matrix type, but I don't think the suede would look right. Granted, since you'd be the first to make it, you'd have a lot of leeway and very few people claiming something's wrong.

 

As for the top, I think the darker brown suede leather would work well. If you wanted to match the pants, I'd stick to the entire thing as suede, though it looks like it needs to be shinier than that.

 

 

Though all in all, good luck and you're a very, VERY brave individual for wanting to wear that.

 

 

Any other opinions? I REALLY need them.

I think the ones you found on ebay are pretty much good to go as-is.

 

 

Her top looks to be out of the same or similar leather.

 

One thing is sure....it's skin-tight. You want something that's fitting but will withstand bending, sitting, moving, etc.

to her costume, you wont get the skin tight effect with the suedette without losing movement . looking at the render the only way your going to get the skin tight look and a hide effect is with latex. if latex isnt polished with silicon it becomes les shiny and could be given the look of a smooth skin look.

Like I said before I think a smooth flat leather (which still has a little shine to it) would look the most authentic. Vinyl also may work if it's not too shiny.

How do these look to everyone? I think they have the shine I need and are in the proper color. It is IMPOSSIBLE to find shiny pants in this color.

I was looking at the picture on the first page of this thread and it looks like her pants have a jockey inseam cut to them.

I finally saw the doll for your character. SHE HAD RED LIGHTSABERS, actually they were more like night sticks. The box described her as a "fallen jedi" who was helped into light side redemption. We all know, toy boxes can be wrong, but either way, I thought you would like to know, she was considered a dark side character, (at least for the toy).

 

I took a photo of the box, for you, with my cell phone. I'll post it later this week.

 

Personally, I feel that if Visas Marr has both a dark and a light side character reference, then your girl probably should too. Either way, she's a great character for you, and I'm looking forward to seeing your progress.

yeah from what ive read of her character she starts off a jedi, then after hearing about Vaders involvement in order 66 goes postal and dark...but Shakti finds her and brings her back...so she goes green tonfa saber / red tonfa saber/ green or red tonfa sabers!

 

So yeah she has a good and bad side, like many characters!

I saw those at Disneyland a while back.. I feel terrible that I didn't buy them because I haven't been able to fine them ANYWHERE.
