Ducks first Major project - Eleena Daru ( Twi'lek)

Being a girl who loves portraying and reading the tragic tales of femme fatales. Eleena Daru's story of slavery and murder very much appeals to me. Her story in a nutshell, for those not familiar with her :

She is a Twi'lek who was rescued from the slave pens on Genosis by Darth Malgus. She became his slave and lover, fighting by his side. During battle, she was almost killed by Jedi Master Zen Zallow and Aryn Leneer in two separate battles.

Darth Malgus realised she was his weakness and could be used against him, so he murdered. However, he mourned her death so intensely, it fed his anger which only increased his strength.

There is much more to the story but this is just a snapshot.

I have purchased a pair of Lekku from one of my Redback Garrison buddies - I believe they were originally crafted by Twi'lek Pam

ok......today I had a crack at starting the headpiece. I crafted the Terracotta clay headpiece and it is now currently drying. Next is creating the mold then latex. Previous experimentations with latex over molds have been successful - so Lekku crossed all my hard work will come out the way I envision.

Also in my album is the very first planning staged of the detonators......more to come soon.

Next stop ordering my bodypaint - I have chosen Kryolan 094 http://kryolan.com.au/index.php?route=pr...duct_id=16

for my exposed skin and lekku. I plan to add some white when I paint my lekku and create the pattern you can see in the headshot reference picture of Eleena.

Very awesome character and a great start! I look forward to seeing the progress on your costume. I'm also putting together a Twi'lek costume, but it's a custom one. Hope your build goes well!

Cheers,

Nef

and an update - Today I painted the ear cones and over the last two days I have been applying several coasts of liquid latex to the head adornment. Once I have made enough layers of latex I will have a mold

Ok so today I finished the detail and highlights of my ear cones, started painting my Lekku (EPIC!!!!!!) AND bum bum bum....removed my Latex headpiece from it's mold and undercoated it.

So to paint the latex I have used Kryolan aquacolour in 510 mixed with white 070 to lighten. This is the same stuff I will be using for my own face. This process is EPIC!!!! and will take ages as I have to lay down layers and let the paint dry between layers. Because of my fine arts back ground I am going to a little bit more trouble than simply painting it blue. I am giving the Lekku texture, highlights and lowlights to achieve the more realistic look shown in my reference pics. I have laid down the dark blue in areas and then build up to a lighter mottled tecture where light would hit. I will be adding creases to where the Lekku bends as well. I probably don't need to be going to so much trouble with detail, but being an artist I won't be happy with just a straight flat colour. As you can see I still have heaps of work to go building up to the lighter colours and depth. To apply the paint, I am using cosmetic sponges in quick dabbing motions.

Next stop the headpiece. After layering about 15 coats of latex onto my mold, Today was the great unveiling. With trepidation I removed the latex from the mold and I was relieved to see my process worked. I have stuffed it with pillow stuffing and when Rubber gets home, will be sealing that with Rubber sealant. The latex headpiece has had it's first undercoat. This could yet just be my proto type as I think I could make a better mold and headpiece now that I Know what I am doing. The reason why I am using latex is because I wanted something lightweight, easy to attach to the band and pliable. The adornment will move with my head nicely.

So on the weekend at Kevcon, I remade my clay mold for the head adornment. It's slightly higher that the original so closer to the correct scale. I am currently painting the undercoated latex version of the head adornment but my new clay mold is going to be cast in silicon then a resin version of the head adornment will be made. I hope to get better detail but will loose the pliability of the latex. We will see which version works best with the headdress. I do like the second clay mold better than the first though, so if latex is better than resin, I will remake a latex adornment using the second clay mold.

My Lekku is starting to take shape and it now undercoated. When it's dry I can start adding detail. Eleena has little diamond texturing down the length of her Lekku so I will be doing that over the next few days. If you look closely I have stippled the colour on so it has the texture depth to look more realistic once the detail goes on. The Lekku is a darker blue underneath so it has depth and a more realistic look rather than just a straight hue.

Lastly is a picture of a cat being stalked by the Lekku monster

Today I painted the latex headpiece - let me know what you think. I still have to add clear laquer. I'm starting the resin version today and the headband band as well.

Lekku Saga: Ducks Log no. 23

I have started adding the detail Eleena has down her Lekku. As it drys, the paint will settle and become lighter - I hope to the effect I want. I have added a tinge of greenish blue to bring depth to the detail.

Next week I will be sitting down and doing a step by step of the make up.

In other news, my body suit has been sent back to have the armour added. I spent over an hour on skype yesterday with my costume designer studying the placement of armour and measurements. We also discussed boots as I have a pair that could possibly be butchered and reworked to become Eleena Boots.
