Question about mara jade side belt piece.

Go by the original source material. If your GML is being problematic, refer them to the detachment for guidance. If you can show the original source and that what you have matches that, then there should be no issue. On the length, giving a specific length is a bad idea. I had this argument on the IOC forum over Krennic's collar. This needs to fit the person. If you specify a length it will not fit every body. Mine may be 10 inches, but it may be 8 on your wife or even 15. To put on a specific size is to end up with costumes that don't look right. The current CRL adequately describes how it should fit, which I think is the best way to get good costumes.

Question about mara jade side belt piece.

I've always felt that it looked like she had just taken the holster off and just left the strap where it was. I think most people have a good 4-5 inches between the two at the furthest point (meaning, it drops 4-5 inches down below the belt before curving back up). The one you have linked on the right side seems too short to me. It also isn't linking up in the right places. In all the images, the two straps come together behind or right beside the front buckle and in the middle of her back. I think the placement of the one on the right in your image is too far away from the belt buckle. The other thing is that ideally you'll get it to lay flat against you instead of standing on its end. This can easily be done by wet forming if it's actual leather (get it soaking wet, then bend it into shape and let it dry that way) or it would need to be cut on a curve so it lies more to your body. Also, I encourage you to work it from the CRL photos but from actual source material. You can get a better sense of how it should look there as every one of us have our own minor flaws with our versions.

Mara Jade - finally getting started..

I think the knee guards look ok, although depending on what version you want to do, it may be better to look for the shin/knee guards together so they look cohesive. Also I think most people doing the decipher have found a combination with both knee and shin guards together so I'd check on what you want t o do with your shin guards before purchasing these.

Yeah, I'm really not looking for other's work (including the CRL). I much prefer original source material. But thank you.

    Cape References

Looking at upgrading my Mara and I want to make her cape. My problem is the clasp. Unfortunately my Google Fu is failing. Right now, I can't find any references for the clasp other than what Pam has up on her website chucrew.com. Everything else I find doesn't show the clasp well at all or is someone else's costume piece. Does anyone have any comic references for the clasp? I don't really want to base it off someone else's costume piece if I can find actual references.

I highly recommend Yaya Han's pattern. Having tried numerous, it's the only one that was both flattering and easy to work with. I talk about how I altered it here: http://withoutastitchon.blogspot.ie/2016/05/mara-jades-bodysuit.html

The Irish Garrison, as you no doubt remember, is not a stickler. We're pretty much all about the craic. Yesterday at Disney my TKs were dancing to Frozen. I think I'd have to be a miracle-worker not to lose it around them.

This looks infinitely better to me. I didn't do the center as two layers, but I can see how it would fit in with references that way. I think this is the best 3D print version I've seen, at least in design. I will caution you, I found out the hard way I'd forgotten to factor in the top exit for the harness would have twice the thickness of leather coming out. I just cut out the under loop and attached it all without that, but you might be able to figure out a better solution than I did.

    Seventh Sister CRL Fixes

I'll be honest, if you're asking for no red lining showing, then the first line is incorrect. Without adding a black facing, red lining will peek out. Even perfectly pressed, it's such a bright colour that any movement by the wearer will show it. If you don't want it to, that's fine, but then the rest of the text needs to allow it.

I'll admit to not having the costume, but it feels like the center waist armor bit is too s,all compared to the tabard behind it. Shouldn't the tabard sort of fit behind that?

Don't copy other people's work, cause you'll end up with other people's errors. Always work from original source material. I'm intrigued what you worked from and where it came from. I think the one Pam has on her site is one of the easiest to see and is really clear. http://chucrew.com/Mara/shoulderharness.html

So the three cuts in are there, but then the layer underneath that also has the cuts in? I've never seen one that looks like that. I have always been of the opinion that both layers were round, but that the top layer cut in for the three lines/details. Does that make sense? Also, the lines cut in the top layer aren't lining up right. They should all cut in so that they line up, nearly the same length cut in. I would extend the bottom two to line up with the top one. Also the holes are so far in that your straps are going to not sit flush to the ends and stick out. I'd definitely move the holes towards the end. It may be based on a different piece of art, but if that's the case, I think you should get your hands on that art cause right now, to me, it just doesn't look right. Also, it may just be me, but I've never liked the really flat bottom version people have 3D printed. I feel like it should wrap the leather into the piece, not just sit on top. If you're getting them to alter this, you could easily thicken the bottom, and get slits where you could sit the leather into it, but this is my personal preference and not something you'd have to change for approval imo.

The cape clasp looks good, although I'm not sure how you attach it. The back has some things about I personally don't think are accurate, and I'm not in love with the placement of holes.

    CRL inconsistency and approvals

I think this is a hard thing to police because ultimate it may not matter what the CRL says, it's down to the GMLs. I've seen Mara Jades with combinations of accessories that aren't allowed by the CRL (off white cowl + black gloves/cape + white gloves), but they were still approved. Honestly, I think it would be worth sending a shout out to the GMLs to double check CRL requirements because what you're saying isn't an isolated incident, or an isolated costume having these problems, and it may be that for TFE costumes, which GMLs won't necessarily know as well as say, an imperial officer or stormtrooper, that it's not good enough if they think it looks ok, but doesn't actually match the CRL.

The goggles are almost identical to mine, so those should be ok! I hate making decisions on fabric when all I have are online photos, but the color looks good. Will depend on how it looks when you get it really.

As far as I know, there is no specific dimensions required for the holdout blaster. I should be small enough that when placed at your back it either isn't seen at all or only a small amount. So, small. I'm making my new cape out of curtain material I found and liked. I know some have used linen. There isn't a required type of material, just colour requirements. No pattern as yet as it's all waiting at home to be washed and then I'm going to freehand it by draping it.

I don't believe so. Pretty sure any covertech clip is approvable.

It wasn't too short on me. I actually loved using that pattern. Fits amazingly and actually allows for curves, so it looks so much better. I went through 4 different patterns and felt this was the best. @jwnikita If it helps, this is what I did: http://withoutastitchon.blogspot.ie/2016/05/mara-jades-bodysuit.html As far as I can tell, there is no pattern on the market that both fits the body and doesn't require altering to get the pattern right.

Seems fine to me, but I'll admit to not having this style of shinguards myself so someone else might have an issue with it.

I think that's doable. I'd try to get it submitted as such before you go buy new boots.
