  1. I have a file based directly off of the line-drawn items from Blur Studios. It still requires the elbows, biceps, shoulders, inside of the thighs, and back, though. I am currently in the process of getting those made up for me (I have no skill with 3D modeling). However, once it is complete, I plan to offer it in hardened foam (stronger than ABS and more bendable than fiberglass. Basically, it is layered EVA foam of different sizes (down to 1/8") with a hard plastic coating on the outside. So, it is padded for taking a knee if you want to. The mask will be cardstock with fiberglass backing and the details etched into 1mm sintra and overlaid (for very clear lines). It will include a helmet (based on the game helmet) for it to hook to. The hand plates will be layered foam that is hardened with removable spikes and the glove pieces will be layered 1mm sintra. Finally, all of the straps will be provided and will include layered foam on them for the thigh details down the front and a foam ab piece to cover the chest and cod connection.
  2. This first shot shows the differences between the armor (in red) and parts of padding from the under suit (in blue). I say this because, in the second picture, you can see the under suit padding bending as the armored character is bending at the waist. I know it is the under suit and not the armor because the armor pieces are not bending in the model, only the central abdominal section between the cod armor and the chest armor.
  3. Shadowlands Sith Warrior/Juggernaut Prodetor Level 31
  4. Actually, the 501st does not do custom/generic costumes that are not outright seen in the various forms of media. The closest you can get to a "generic" character would be one of the bad-guy characters from the video games. The Sith Acolytes from TOR, the Sith Assassins from KOTOR, the Reborn from the Jedi Knight series, etc. However, if you are looking to do a custom Sith, like the custom Jedi of the Rebel Legion, I would like to point you toward The Dark Empire Costume Club. They allow custom dark side characters.
  5. Okay, I would like to weigh in on the standards, as they are posted. I agree with most of it, but would still like to weigh in. Some of this could be added for an additional layer of detail rather than just the basics, but some of it is also necessary for clarification. Mask I agree with everything, but would like a small change/addition. The change would include the pattern from the Eradicator helmet. It is similar to that of Lord Adraas, but slightly different. The Eradicator has no texturing to the forehead, more pronounced central ridge, jutting cheekbones, and vents on the sides. Also, there needs to be mention of the three different red paint jobs. The Adraas paint job is a thin red stylized forehead stripe and red mouth that extends up the edges of the mouth. The standard paint job is a dark red back wash of the inset designs. The Eradicator paint job is a thick red forehead line and red mouth that is confined to the flat part of the mouth only. Under Suit The under suit is slightly textured, similar to the Jedi under suit. There is piping on the front of the legs and a strange layered strap leading down to the thigh armor. On the Eradicator armor, there is also strapping on the hips. It also has a seam on the front (possible hidden zipper) and a slightly padded look around the neckline. Also, there is an under-gauntlet of a shiny 1" quilted material around the arm. Neck Robe I think it should just be Robe. Abdomen Armor The abdomen armor should be a cod piece. It does not connect to the chest armor, but is separate. The connecting piece is the actual abdomen armor and is painted black and is more padded (such as the rubber/foam strips on the Malgus armor. Cod Armor The cod armor is a separate entry from the abdomen armor. Boots The boots are low-heel boots without ornamentation. They must tuck into the shin armor.
  6. As long as it is the base costume (the one when they are still an NPC), then the character is considered cannon enough. You would need to get a few screenshots from the front, back, and sides. Also, if you can get a shot of the lightsaber she uses, you should look to recreate it (hilt and color).
  7. That looks great. One question, though. How will you be holding it on?
  8. That looks awesome. Are you planning to harden your foam at all? I know some great ways that Iron Man costumers use to make the foam actually plastic.
  9. I am very much impressed. You did an awesome job.
  10. I'm not sure if this will help or not, but I have some high detail pics of the two masks. The bottom mask with the tiger stripes seems to have a bit of a red sheen to the interior of the stripes. I am currently in the process of contacting Blur Studios for any images they might be able to give out concerning the armor itself, separate of the robes. This might be able to help slightly when it comes to building the actual "screen used" shoulders, biceps, back, and butt armor.
  11. Okay, I must say that I am drooling at that mask. It looks amazing. Color me impressed. I am curious as to your use of the foam and the plastic. Definitely post some pics and let us know how well it works. I have some HALO costume friends who might be interested in that method.
  12. The lightsaber is not a required piece, but I do not see why you couldn't add the gold to make it pop a little. However, the "canon" version is supposed to be ghostly and weathered like his robes. The reason is that it, like his robes, do not truly exist. Allow me to explain, but I should warn you that this explanation is also a spoiler, so please select the text below to see it. ---------- Darth Nihilus is a Wound in the Force and a Force Ghost that was manifested in reality. His spirit and essence are contained in his mask, all else about him is a memory that he clings to. His face, robes, belt, and all else about him are memories that he has about his physical body. That is the reason it is all completely and totally black and ragged. The Black is because of the form of his memory, the ragged is because that was the way his Jedi robes were left after the Mass Shadow Generator went off. His lightsaber is another story. In the game and comics, he is never seen wearing a lightsaber on his belt. Likewise, in the game Darth Nihilus never truly draws his lightsaber like everyone else, it just seems to manifest itself in his hand. This is because it, like the rest of his physical body, is just a memory kept manifest by his will. The reality was that his lightsaber was just as dessicated as the rest of him, but his memory clings to it stronger than it does to his physical body or robes. The reason, I would surmise, is because a Jedi truly only owns their lightsaber. They have to put so much energy into its creation, both literally and figuratively, that it is more a part of them than even their body. So, his lightsaber would not be black, but would remain silver. ---------- With that said, I do not see Darth Nihilus' lightsaber to have the showy gold on it. This is not to say that you can't make it, just that I do not see it that way. I see it, like his robes, to be the tattered remains in his memory of the lightsaber he held on Malichor V. It would be weathered and haggard.
  13. ACK!!! Attack of the living dead post!!! That's okay. It is here for that very reason. For the shoulder armor, I would look into getting sintra templates for a Vader knee. Layers are your friend when it comes to some of this stuff. The only time the back armor is seen in the cutscenes is just as he runs past Kyle for the death blow. I wouldn't do it, mostly because I like comfort and the cape might not hang correctly otherwise. But I'd check out using Boba Fett armor templates for it. The red symbols on the scarf are applique. The scarf itself is attached at the back of the neck to the cape (it never alters its length).
  14. Personally, I wear a 3" and 1" belt, just as I do with my Jedi. I'm 6'4" (6'6 in my Nihilus) and it is proportional to me. I'd say fake one out of construction paper before you buy it to see what looks good on you.
  15. How are you planning on doing the Robes? Send me a PM and I can give you a few options.
  16. I attached a small bit of nylon bias tape to the battery pack and to the pommel. Pull one and the other comes out no problem.
  17. If you want to do your own out of PVC, you should be able to keep the price under $100. Check out Ultra Sabers and TCSS for the internals, but don't even click anything in them for the sound cards. The only think you might need from them that is sound relates is a speaker. Okay, with that said, go down to your local Walmart and buy one of the Electronic saber toys ($35). Now, go onto TCSS or Ultra Sabers and look up how to install a "Hasbro Economy Board." You get all the swinging sounds, the hum, and the clash with the price of a toy. However, when you hook it up to the high grade speaker, it sounds like a Master Replicas (or better). I've done this for a friend already and am doing it for two more (one of which is a Starkiller). I also plan to do the same thing for my Darth Nihilus saber. Heck, I might even start selling the things soon.
  18. I've gone both ways. Blackout Mask +More comfortable +Easier to breathe -Mask crushes nose -Almost no details visible on face Molded Face Mask +Comfortable fits face +High detail face under mask (more screen accurate) -Sweat build up against face -Breathe through cloth covered mouth and nose holes As you can see, it goes both ways. I suggest both and choose between the two depending on the troop. Darker venue, go with the blackout mask, brighter/closer venue, go with the molded mask.
  19. Yes, the piece of formed plastic under the skull is what I call the face or mask. It is a piece of ABS that is formed onto a mold of what I think might be the guy's face, but I am not sure. Here's a good up-close shot of it. I would suggest buying a blank male mask and painting it flat black. Adding some black cloth under the eyes, nose, and mouth (the kind you can see out of but nobody can see into) and use that. It will fit better, be more comfortable, and won't leave any strange lines on your face.
  20. Oh, I've creeped out one of our spotters before. Apparently, the creepiest thing you can do is stare directly at someone with the mask on, and then tilt your head slightly. She actually shivered and hid behind her boyfriend... It was fun. Too bad I didn't have my voice hooked up or I probably could have gotten a full scream!
  21. Okay, it’s been a while since I have done anything with this costume, but I have been tinkering with a few ideas. I haven’t been sitting idle, just trying to get a small business going while also working some of the most screwy hours I ever had (even during Army deployments). So, I am hoping to get the following upgrades done in time for Celebration! From top to bottom, inside to out. Mask I am planning to purchase a new under mask, paint it, install the eye covers, and call it good. The one I currently have is tighter than Porkins in a cockpit. Neck Seal To keep my neck from showing, I will be doing a neck seal dickie with a t-shirt material on the inside and raw silk on the outside. Cape I plan to add buttons to the cape under the knot and to the shoulders to allow it to attach to the harness. The reason for the shoulders is to keep it positioned correctly while I move. Inner Tunic Creating a full inner tunic, rather than a dickie, with a new set of sleeves attached. Outer Tunic Removing the sleeves from the outer tunic and adding a cap sleeve to bring it more in line with the illustrations. Skirt Rather than wearing a pair of sweat pants under it all, I am going to skirt route. Yes, you heard me right, a full skirt under it all. Belt I'm going to remake my belt with something a little more accurate. Actually dyeing my own belt blanks and making it wrap all the way around. Sound System My sound system will include a full harness with suspenders for the skirts. The harness will help hold down the cape knot and hold the speakers. An extra-long speaker wire will go down my arm to a palm-mounted mini mp3 player with the Nihilus voice files on it. Lightsaber I’ll be building this myself out of PVC and epoxy sculpt. It will have TCSS and US parts and run off of a Hasbro sound board.
  22. Hmm... I wonder what this thing is... Uh oh...
  23. Worst I have been called is a Deatheater. I do "obscure" characters because nobody has done them before. Then again, one of my characters is not so obscure (Savage Opress). However, it is also for the more geekier geeks that recognize the character.
