  1. Yeah your GML is just the first link in the approval chain. IDK what your Garrison is, but if they have a forum, hop on and introduce yourself. They will mentor you like crazy, even if there are no other Revans in the Garrison. I'm with Mountain Garrison right now, working on my build, and we have armor parties, talk shop at get-togethers...all sorts of stuff that helps immeasurably. I will be the only active Revan in my Garrison when I'm done, but one of the guys who lives close to me was already working on a Revan mask kit to sell when I started getting involved with them. I was going to make my own but because I like his so much I decided just to buy one from him. So even if they aren't the most knowledgeable about Revan in particular, they can still be a massive amount of help. Ofc, with the nitpicky details you wanna ask DarthTagion. XD
  2. I think I get the gist of what you're trying to do, and I LIKE IT. It does look more accurate, IMO. Now that I think about it, I was actually thinking of doing something similar (not with the metal strips on the side, though, but perhaps with some silvery fabric or vinyl). I hadn't looked too close at the other Revan belts to notice what their actual makeup was. You'll have to see if that will lay flat when all is said and done, you may want to mount it to the back with something that pivots.
  3. Without talking to the original render artist, it would probably be impossible to tell for sure what it's *supposed* to be. I definitely think specific instructions on "this color or that color" are the best way to go. I'm probably going to go for black/dark gray with some metallic depth in places like the "eyes" and the bottom part of the cuirass on mine. But leaving it completely open to interpretation could invite too much artistic license. Lol.
  4. I have a friend who is playing it through on the iPad right now, I'll ask her to get some stills. I'll also poke around to see if anyone can extract/ has extracted the models from the iOS version. Now, iPad KotOR is made by a completely different developer than the original game, so there might be some visual differences in the details. I have no idea if they had to do new renders from the ground up or what. God help us if they ever make a remastered version for the next generation consoles. XD
  5. I like this interpretation of the belt pieces and would welcome further insight!
  6. Yeah, it is clear that there *is* a backside to the cuirass, it's just hard to see what the whole thing looks like based on canon images. Most good shots of the sides of the back of the cuirass are from players modding the Darth Revan model over their player model, as well. I think most Revans will agree that the back side of the dark side Star Forge cuirass is the same, but it is still an assumption. I just figured I'd bring it up as something to think about, because I'd hate to see a situation where we are required to have a back plate, but don't have the good resources to execute the requirement. It'll be interesting to see what happens here.
  7. What you can do with Worbla is smooth it out with either wood glue or gesso. Both are sandable and give you a nice, sealed smooth finish with the stuff. Put some Rustoleum sandable primer on top of that and you're golden. With gesso, you can use thicker coats, but with PVA/wood glue you need to use many thin coats.
  8. Yeah, I'd love to see! I'm also doing a custom build (as you know), and it's good to know the rattle cans are working well on the Worbla. I know most people who do Worbla armor of any sort just use acrylics, but I really like some of these more custom colors I'm seeing, so I might use my little airbrush I picked up. But if for some reason that doesn't work I can go rattle can, certainly.
  9. Oh neato! Yeah, I'd really appreciate that. It'll give me something to compare mine against. Thanks! Edit: If you have the photos on your facebook, or on some other website where you can upload photos, you can right-click the photo and select "copy link/URL" and then paste it here, and put the BBCode tags url goes here[/ img] without any spaces. (I just put spaces so the BBCode didn't get confused and try to post an image that isn't there. Lol)
  10. Isn't the only reliable, full image of the back plate a non-canon reference, though? (Dark side Star Forge armor from KotOR) If we make the back plate a requirement, would it still be allowed to use even though it's non-canon?
  11. I think DarthTagion will know best. My guess is they will need to be taller (if they glimpse the top of that boot even a smidge that won't be good). I'm not sure on the tread, I don't think the CRL has anything specific on that. They just need to be laceless, square- or round-toed, and in general non-conspicuous.
  12. I think I saw someone here was stitching their pleats down so they didn't have to do any ironing anymore. XD
  13. Plans for Dragon*Con fell through. However, this means good things for Revan; I have decided to postpone my Shepard build because of it, and will be starting on Revan tomorrow! Shepard can wait for the next convention, but I want to start trooping with the awesome guys and gals of my garrison ASAP. Patterning the armor will be the main activity for tomorrow, and I've ordered some supplies to make a cast of my face so I can start sculpting the mask. One of the guys in our garrison is sculpting a custom one I really like, so I may ask him for advice on that. WOOOO! I'm excited. Edit: I decided I'm going to buy a pull of the mask the guy at our Garrison has made. (It's super awesome!) If he's cool with it I will post pictures when I get the kit.
  14. Out of curiosity, are you using rattle can paints or airbrush? Either way, I'd love to see what you come up with.
  15. Unfortunately, I doubt they will release any better images from the developers' side, since BioWare Austin is pretty much on skeleton crew right now to maintain the servers, and that's it. I'll see if I can get any good screenies of him the next time I play through the game, but it'll be difficult. I agree with you that if we were to do a maskless version it would have to be with the SWTOR armor. I'd still say he's not a Sith character anymore by that point, though... I have a rapport with several writers on the game, including the lead writer, and the consensus with them is that Revan's morality and character are up to the player's interpretation. IDK if that means we could really qualify him as a "bad guy" again in SWTOR for the purposes of the 501st. But that is a purely academic debate and I certainly wouldn't argue against more Revan rep in the Legion. My Garrison already knows I plan to do both versions of equal quality (I was actually talking to our PAO about doing light side Revan for the Rebel Legion this past weekend), and I wouldn't dream of trooping femRevan without their blessing. They seem really enthusiastic about it, though; I guess it adds a little variety and spice. Haha.
  16. Some people stitch the pleats in place in the cape so they don't have to iron it all the time. You're right about the hakama though, it is looser so you can get away with not having the creases as sharp. It's just a preference thing, I think. The only requirement is that there need to be pleats and they need to be box-shaped. Lol.
  17. This airbrush paint caught my eye while I was browsing: (Auto Air Colors 4300 series Metallic Bronze #4334) Play around with different bases and coats. Definitely test your paints on scraps of the actual material you're using. You might have to buy a handful of different shades to figure out what you like best, but it certainly beats dedicating yourself to one color and hating the end result.
  18. Haha, sometimes the creative juices flow so freely we need to remind ourselves what we're actually trying to do. XD I guess you can topstitch it, but I was always under the impression a box pleat just referred to the shape of the pleat, which is rectangular in the case of both the hakama/skirt and the cape. I am also admittedly a sewing noob, so feel free to correct my terminology. Lol.
  19. No problem. Hakama pleats are just your standard box pleat. Just remember the CRL says that the cape hangs straight down the back. The capelet creates the drape effect over the shoulders. Constantly reference images and the CRL when you're brainstorming. I'm just drafting the hood myself, mostly because I want it to lay a certain way. Just be careful using Jedi hoods because some of them are peaked and Revan's isn't. Otherwise, I think you'll be fine.
  20. I found this tutorial for hakama one day when I was doing some research. It has a lot more detail about historical hakama than you'll probably care about for the purposes of doing a Revan costume, but I found it was a helpful starting point just to get the creative juices flowing: http://www.andsewingishalfthebattle.com/how-to-make-historically-accurate-hakama I think the easiest thing to do as far as the hakama go is to buy a pair of pre-existing black ones. A lot of people just do that. However, if you're a nitpick like me and don't want to mix your blacks, using the same fabric for everything will make it necessary for you to make your own. As for the cape/capelet, you might want to get some inexpensive muslin and play around and find what works for you. The advantage to the cape is that it hangs straight down the back, and doesn't wrap around, so that makes the shape less complicated and easy to pleat. Hope this helps a little bit.
  21. I am, too. And as it has been pointed out, that's what the in-game model looks the most like. Ha, now I'm imagining of using Testors metalizer paints to do the forehead, I could even buff out a shiny spot with that stuff! It's hard to nail down Revan in SWTOR. I'm not sure he classifies as a Sith character specifically despite what happens...he seems like he's his own free agent. Given his past and how he walks the knife edge between light and dark, that's what makes the most sense to me. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't SWTOR Revan in general not 501st approvable? I know that's a debate that has been going since the game came out. Oh Revan, you are so complex and that is why we love you. That is true. It's something I've been struggling with trying to pin down a "light side" version for the Rebel Legion, the "mask or no mask" question. I guess it doesn't really matter, since EU characters don't do canon troops anyway. Technically speaking, you only need to be male for approval, but for troops outside of canon troops, I don't think it's a big deal. I could be wrong on that, though.
  22. I believe the mask originally had a red forehead, but that the paint on the forehead weathered down to a base metal color as time went on. So for me, personally, I think having splotches of red on the forehead make sense and should be acceptable, but it should be obvious that the forehead is heavily weathered. That's just my own artistic interpretation, though. Edit: I'm not sure if mask-less Revan would be a good thing for the 501st. The mask defines Revan as a Sith Lord, and the only time you ever see him unmasked canonically is when he returns to the light side. Not to mention it helps female Revan costumers adhere to the canonical interpretation of Revan as a male character. Although the mask definitely will not stop me from wearing yellow contact lenses... muahahahaha.
  23. I'm always partial to snaps.
  24. You can also finish both worbla and wonderflex with gesso or wood glue. Gesso you have to sand down quite a bit, but it will give your piece a nice, finished look and you don't even have to mess with the resin if you don't want to. I've done pep before, it just doesn't work for me. :/ I can never seem to get a shape to look right. I remember me and my buddy tried to build a pep Magnum pistol from Halo and it leaned very heavily to one side. XD Took us all weekend just to get the paper together! Lol. Anyway, hijacking this thread. If you have any more questions about Worbla or Wonderflex you can visit my thread (Sky's Revan Build) or PM me.
