    Mojo's Revan WIP

Hi there! I believe it's Lord Atrocity who is making his mask out of pep, and with fantastic results! Can't wait to see yours. As for the cape, capelet, hood, hakama, etc... I'm afraid no patterns exist. Most people either use the kit provided by Rob of MyWickedArmor or pattern theirs from scratch. I'm doing the latter, and I will definitely post up my methods when I start working on those parts for mine.
  2. Thanks! That's perfectly fine, I feel the same way about that kind of stuff. (Got the PM, btw.)
  3. I know this is from a few months back, but I'd love to know where you can get the silk professionally pressed? (Somewhere you trust, at least...) Also, will the silk hold the creases permanently or do you have to have it professionally pressed every time? The silk seems like a great idea, and it would look beautiful, but I'm leery of having to trust someone else with its regular maintenance and upkeep. Thanks!
  4. I want one for photoshoots and carrying around at cons/fair events, but that's about it. I can't imagine lugging it around on a regular basis at a troop. How much are the generic KotOR ones, if I may ask? Dummy ones to hang off the cuirass would probably be a nice touch.
  5. I think I'm going to be missing SDCC in favor of D*Con next year, because I have to be at PAX East and two out of town cons are going to stretch my budget. I ended up spending too much to get to SDCC, and that's part of why I didn't go to D*Con this year as I had planned. But you go to D*Con every year, right? I'm sure you'll be able to see it. Hopefully I'll have the female version done by then, too! Who is the artist, btw? I haven't been successful in finding her, but I want to base my Lady Revan on it, as well.
  6. That is amazing for a budget build! I loved it when I saw it at SDCC! The mask is also amazing, did you make it as well? I'm assuming the inspiration from it came from the picture that is my avatar? It looks very similar in design. I'm also working off of that for my fem build, once I get the male version done.
  7. Oh yeah, one of the guys in my garrison is doing a Kashyyyk Scout and he is finding things wrong with the CRL for that one all the time because he's working straight off of the CGI references. When you're talking CGI, it can be even harder to come up with reasonable standards because artists design the characters without much regard for actual mobility and real body movements. At least in film people have to actually wear the costumes! Lol. Luckily, in the case of Revan, we don't have that issue so much, we just have the issue of dealing with early graphics shading.
  8. Oooooo pretty! Now I want one. T-T
  9. Since you don't need it for approval, I'm holding off on mine until Christmas or something... The costume itself is gutting my wallet as it is! Lol. I also want one done properly, with the sound and everything. I'm mixing and matching parts from UltraSabers and TCSS, so research into how to actually build one is going to be substantial because I'm going to have to buy the parts separately. I'm pretty good with electronics, though, so it shouldn't be too bad.
  10. Hey Thomas! That is someone I know, actually! We saw each other at SDCC in July and I got to see this beautiful costume up close and personal. She was so excited when I told her I was doing a Revan costume, too! We know each other through Mass Effect costuming (she does an awesome Tali'Zorah!). Thank you for sharing this. Edit: I showed her this post and it made her day.
  11. Let me know what your guy comes up with, Kilryth. This weekend I have two solid days of trooping so I should have the opportunity to pick some brains on cold casting. I'm confident I could sculpt a good ring, I would just need guidance and materials for casting purposes.
  12. That bondo is awesome stuff! In the pictures it goes from looking really rough to being really smooth...lotsa sanding! Looks like you primed it, too... Unfortunately I had to put some construction on hold until I can get in more Worbla... someone put my jumbo sheet of the stuff out in the garage and now it's all adhered to itself in a solid plastic tube... At least I'll have plenty to use as detailing putty. *SIGH*
  13. It hadn't occurred to me mostly because I know at least for me it's not an option. One of our guys has one but it's not capable of printing anything bigger than some greeblies. It also assumes I'm any good with 3D modeling software, which I'm not. XD It is a possibility for those who do have that kind of capability, though.
  14. Looking SHARP! I need to not be a chicken and get my cuirass started...dat Worbla is expensive stuff and I'm so afraid of messing it up. XD However, I know it's forgiving enough that mistakes are pretty easily rectified. I really like how your mask is turning out! I've never had much luck with pep, but yours looks great. What kind of fiberglass did you use?
  15. I didn't know, either. XD Killryth had to point it out to me. This is what happens when you give costumers 3D extraction software. LOL.
  16. We love that you care! Haha. For an EU character, Revan has quite the following, so we're fortunate that there's so many people to help.
  17. Apparently the "rivets" are actually in the game model ring, they're just really hard to see.
  18. I'll inquire around. There are a couple guys in my garrison that are really good. One has the most accurate landspeeder replica this side of Mos Eisley and the other is making my Revan mask. Lol.
  19. Ah, okay. I also think the MWA ring is a bit on the skinny side, I just wasn't sure if a thickness of the ring was specified by the CRL (I can't remember off the top of my head, but I will certainly cross-check before doing anything about it). My only concern with doing this ring out of machined metal will be the weight. I don't want anything too hefty because that will be a PITA to wear and attach to the armor with the inch-or-so wide belt straps. I also don't want anything too light (which I fear a towel ring might be). I've thought about asking someone to cold cast a ring, which might be a better solution...if you cold cast with aluminum powder you can buff the resin out to a nice shine, and it looks like the whole thing is metal-cast. You'd have to paint it if you wanted a chrome finish, but I would rather like a bit of a weathered aluminum look like that. It's something I can also look into if people are interested.
  20. I like both 2 and 3, but 2 seems to be the way I'm personally leaning more than 3. I'd do either, though. Are those thicknesses approvable/appropriate? They seem like they may be a bit thick to me, but then again the ring is kind of "out of context," as it were. I went down to Tandy Leather the other day and they looked at me like I grew two heads when I asked for a ring of this description. XD That kind of confused me because I know people have gotten their rings from them in the past. Maybe it's just not something they carry anymore. I'll probably look at the hardware store, too. (I saw a towel ring that looked pretty promising last week, the only concern I'd have would be getting it out of the mounting bracket without damaging it.)
  21. Lemme think how best to explain it... I mean like, you get one ring that's about 5.5" in diameter and put another ring inside it that's slightly smaller. That's what it looks like to me in the game renders, anyway. Or if I can find a pre-fab ring with that same effect, that would be good, too.
  22. The details on the MWA ring are purely artistic, so they aren't a must-have unless you're particularly attached to them. Just food for thought to try and keep the cost of your piece down. I was probably just going to go down to my local Tandy Leather and see what they had in terms of 5" diameter rings. I know people have gotten theirs there in the past. In the game models, it looks like two nested rings, actually. I'd prefer to get something like that, but if that's going to be too cost-prohibitive or difficult to do, I'll probably just do a solid silver ring.
  23. Beautiful work! Revan's mask is indeed the most iconic part of the character, and you more than did it justice.
  24. I'd love to have better/more detailed references, personally. Yes, challenges, good...
  25. If only we could just write CRLs like: *Picture here* "It should look like this. PRETTY MUCH EXACTLY LIKE THIS. Just do it." XD
