  1. After speaking with Satya, we may need to check the width of the straps. The straps being half the width may be why I thought the tabs were too large. With no other visual cues, I figured the straps were correct and the tabs were too large. If the straps are too narrow, the tabs might be alright. But we won't know until we see the correct width straps in place.
  2. Hello all. I'm Garrison Excelsior's GML. I didn't know there was a parallel conversation going on, so let me catch up... Jill, In the images you sent me via FB on 11/26 (our first contact) were small and I did not notice the extra double-strapping. Here is the CRL for the "Mara Jade: Black Bodysuit" http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:Mara_jade There is no "Comic Version" or "Decipher Card Version". The only mention of Decipher is within the Shin and Knee Guards element: "The shin and knee guards may be custom sculpted to match the designs used in the comics, or they may be based on the police style shin and knee pads used in the Decipher image of Mara." You only mentioned to me you were working on a "Mara Jade". This is the first time I have heard your build being the "Decipher Card Version". Purple in not a color option for the cape. As in the CRL references, there are no visible rivets on the belt or harness. In my reply on 11/30, You asked if it was OK to have two straps coming out of the top. I replied "There is no specific statement about what the leather pieces coming out of the top. Most overlap them and it does look better." Whether it be a single piece split into two, or two single pieces coming out of the same space and splitting off. I continued "Also, your three tabs should not be so much larger then the strap coming out." I even provided the CRL image for reference to visualize the issue. In your image posted today, you did not address the size of the tabs, but rather made the ends of the straps larger which would still be an issue with the design. I'm sorry if you feel I have misguided you in any way, but please do not say "Everything has been run through my GML." when you had only asked me about the double straps coming out of the top tab, and the color of the leather. Outside of that one inquiry I have not been involved in your build. If you were not able to adjust the STL file for the back, it could be cut and filed into a more accurate shape. Use styrene and Bondo to blend the new shape. Everyone here has the same goals: To help you make the best costume you can. The process is a labor of love, an investment in both time and $$. It can be daunting and discouraging as you navigate the bumps in the road. But in the end you have a costume you can be proud of, wear to events to entertain child and adult fans of Star Wars with other members of this wonderful community.

  4. His current placement makes sense to me. I see the SLD as where all of the "movie bad guys" are, and the TFE as where all of the "book (EU), TV and video game bad guys" are.

  7. Oh, thank you! Good to know. I actually untucked them to be visible... I'll have that fixed by my first troop.
  8. Dropping this here, as an archive for my app for my Darth Nihilus (COTF). Costume provenance: Origional build by Volund Starfire (SL-6132) Jason Ellenburg. Costume uses 22-yards of coarse-weave silk. Everything but the quilted sleeves are made from this silk. Hood and cape are a wide piece of fabric, darted at the top sides to form a hood pocket. The upper corners of the fabric drape over the shoulders and tie in a not at the chest. The hood, is a batting helmet with a piece of Sintra formed into the top shape. The material is attached to the inside/underside of this formed shape and brought back over the top for form the hood. The front facing of the hood details are pleated down to the forehead area. http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Ramsay_Nihilus_frontD.jpg The mask combines a blackout mask (lightweight balaclava), underneath a black-painted mannequin face. http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Ramsay_Nihilus_maskR.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Ramsay_Nihilus_maskL.jpg The quilted sleeves are a different fabric and attached to a cross-over tunic made from silk. They have a 1” wide vertical rib pattern. Black gauntlet gloves are plain and have no top-stitching details. Inner cross-over tunic is made from silk, and is attached to the inner skirt. The inner skirt is two yards of silk, gathered to give a voluminous appearance. When worn, there is a two-inch gap, creating a split in the center. It reached the floor, but the distressing brings it up a little. The obi is made from silk and has inner-facing to keep its shape. Approximately 5” in width and closes in the back. Belt was made. Under belt is 3” wide. Over belt is 1.25” wide, and held in place with pairs of rivets and closes in the back. The outer skirt is three yards of silk, gathered to give a voluminous appearance. It is on a belt that closes in the middle, creating a split in the center. It reached the floor, but distressing brings it up a little. The outer cross-over tunic has no finished edges. The edges are allowed to distress on their own. Reached to mid-thigh, but distressing brings it up a little. Boots are Harley Davidson boots with all straps and ornamentation removed. They were de-glazed to remove the shine, and then reconditioned. This gives them the same matte appearance as the raw silk. Lightsaber is hand sculpted. I started with a Master Replicas Darth Maul, removed all extra knobs, ground off all of the top fins and mid rings. Bondo’d those areas smooth an added some “tell” details from the version used in COTF (the example in the CRLS is from the KORII game). http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/IMG_5195nn.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/IMG_5203nn.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/IMG_5209nn.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/IMG_5220nn.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/IMG_5267.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/jcwm6.gif http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Ramsay_Nihilus_lightsaber.jpg Under masking layer, full skirt made from Lycra, to hide lags, and moc-neck dicky. http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Ramsay_Nihilus_first.jpg Layer two, inner tunic and inner skirt. http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Ramsay_Nihilus_second.jpg Layer three, sleeves and outer tunic. http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Ramsay_Nihilus_third.jpg Layer four, outer tunic, obi, belt and gauntlets. http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Ramsay_Nihilus_fourth.jpg Mask added. http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Ramsay_Nihilus_fifth.jpg Front http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Ramsay_Nihilus_front.jpg Front left. http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Ramsay_Nihilus_frontL.jpg Front right. http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Ramsay_Nihilus_frontR.jpg Left http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Ramsay_Nihilus_left.jpg Right http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Ramsay_Nihilus_right.jpg Back http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Ramsay_Nihilus_back.jpg Comic pose. http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Ramsay_Nihilus_comic%20pose.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Ramsay_Nihilus_comic%20poseD.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Ramsay_Nihilus_comic%20pose2.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Ramsay_Nihilus_sad1.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Ramsay_Nihilus_sad1d.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Ramsay_Nihilus_red1.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww103/TrooperPX/Darth%20Nihilus/Red%201tone.jpg Thank you for your time and consideration. 10. Thanks! Bondo filed down flush to the leftover raised details. Styrene strips added, extra CA pooled to help transitions, edges and sections filed to look more organic:
  11. Ground down the top "fins" and some of the mid rings: Then filled the those areas with Bondo:
  12. Yea... we just love this guy. But for now, just finished my Nihilus lightsaber. Metal hilt Force FX Darth Maul chassis with red blade.
  13. Boots (to cover) acquired. Getting closer to having this on the bench.
  14. I almost have all the parts needed to start working on my A'Sharad Hett. Still have some things to get off the bench, but this is a place holder for my WIP.
