  1. Hello and Welcome! Darth Nihilus is one of those costumes you will have to look around to source all the various parts. As for robes, tunics, obi and belts, I do take commissions, but I am booked till March 2016 currently. So if you need it after that, you can PM me. My Wicked Armour does make a Nihilus, but it needs alterations to be 501st approvable. You can also approach a local seamstress or tailor and see what they would charge to make it for you. The best pattern to use is any of the Jedi ones, but they will need to be altered slightly. I used the 5840 Simplicity pattern for mine. For fabric you will want something with a good drape to it that hangs nicely. Many use Raw Silk or Linen for their robes. I used a heavier piano weave linen for my robes and it is gorgeous, but also pricey. Plain black quilters cotton is too light a fabric to get the desired effect of Nihilus' billowing robes. For gloves, I found mine online at a good price. Any black, non-stiff gauntlet glove, without stitching on the back, can be used. Boots just need to be black and have no visible laces. I use womens black zip up snow boots on mine. Not ideal when trooping in the summer heat however, hehehe. Hope this helps! Cheers, Nef
  2. Picture is a little blurry, but it looks great so far. Cheers, Nef
  3. Hello, MWA Nihilus is certainly a good start, but yes, it will need some modifications to make it approvable. To start you will need a second under tunic. Nihilus is depicted with 2 tunics and you can see them at the front with the overlapping collars. MWA Nihilus only has the one. You will also need to add in a stitch line to the tunic provided to make it look like it has a hemmed collar, as it does not appear to come with one. The other main thing is the belt it comes with is inaccurate and would need to be modified, or an entirely new belt made. I do take Nihilus robe and belt commissions, but I'm currently booking into March 2016 at the moment though. Hope this helps! Cheers, Nef
  4. In a lot of cases, when unsure of a material, many of the character creators are happy to answer questions on the intended materials. As is the case with Revan, one of our garrison members went right to the source: BioWare. He had the chance to sit down with the character designers for Revan and ask some really great questions. Try reaching out to the creator of a character and see if they can answer your questions. As for the Revan discussion, yes, his armour is meant to be metal according to the creators at BioWare. Cheers, Nef
  5. ^ this, a thousand times this! I know your pain. Had to re-do the sleeves on my Nihilus 3 times before I got them right. Hang in there!
  6. Typically foam armour builds aren't approved (I say typically as there have been a few exceptions). The 501st wants the look and 'feel' of real armour. So you need to take into consideration if a child comes up to you and asked to touch your armour, you want to be sure in the fact it will feel real to the child. Foam armour doesn't really do that too well. When I fist submitted my Darth Nihilus to join the 501st, I was also rejected with suggestions from my GML on how to make it better. So I went back, made the changes and was approved the second time around. Now I'm a costume mentor here! We all learn and take steps to get into the Legion and then continue to grow as costumers. Don't take it too hard, we all have had similar experiences. So far your improved build looks good, but I am not really that knowledgable on the Sith Apprentice, so I can't say for sure how it compares to the 501st standards. Keep on going! Cheers, Nef
  7. Greetings, I figured I would get a thread going on my newest costume endeavor: The Seventh Sister Inquisitor. This will be a background build, meaning I'll be working on it when I have free time from my other costume commitments. So I have no idea how often I'll be updating here or a specific date in mind to have it done for. But I am excited for this costume! I loved seeing the Seventh Sister in action in the latest episode of Rebels, and knew I just had to make her outfit someday. For now, some reference pics! Cheers, Nef
  8. Hello, I know we have a few Inquisitor costumes made or being made of the Rebels season 1 Inquisitor. Now that season 2 is underway, we have 2 more new Inquisitors: The Fifth Brother and the Seventh Sister! With titles like that, it is probable that there will be more Inquisitors down the road. I'm wondering if we know where they fall detachment wise? Regardless, I am doing research into the Seventh Sister as I think it would be a great costume to do. It also has the option of a full face mask, or open faced with makeup. I like the versatility that can offer as a costumer. Cheers, Nef
  9. I am loving the progress on this costume! Your work is always incredible.
  10. Glad to hear it is all coming together. Looking forward to seeing the finish costume! Cheers, Nef
  11. Looking good so far! You will need to add the quilting to the sleeves as per the CRL guidelines. You will also want to sew in the "tails" on the knot on the hood, as they are not supposed to stick out. Great work so far! I had to get silver studs for my belt when I made my Nihilus as that was all they sold at the time. I just painted mine with black nail polish and they look great. Cheers, Nef
  12. Looking good so far. Very nice drape on that fabric! Love how it hangs. Cheers, Nef
  13. Nicely done! The belt looks great!
  14. To attach my mask to the crown, first I added an elastic band to the mask to go around my head and keep it on securely. Then at the top of the mask on the back I glued 2 snaps, the other half of the snaps I sewed onto the middle front of the crown fabric. So I put the mask on with the elastic, then snap it onto the fabric crown so it stays in place. Here is a picture of the snaps: http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn275/Neptheen/2013-11-18140207_zps49785bea.jpg Cheers, Nef
  15. Go with the measurements in the CRL. I have been making a lot of Jedi belts lately and keep getting my measurements mixed up.
  16. I did something similar in that it is a double layer of the fabric I used for the robes. I added metal eyelets at the back seems and lace it up like a corset. That way it is a little bit adjustable if someone larger or smaller is trying out my costume.
  17. Robes are looking great! Nice even quilting lines on the sleeves. Those gloves and boots will work fine for Nihilus, good find. As for the belt, you can find everything you need at Tandy Leather. You'll need 2 belt blanks, the larger one should be about 3 inches wide, and the smaller one 1 inch wide. The smaller belt blank gets contact cemented (glued) down on top of the larger one in the centre. Next you will need to dye the belts black. Then you add in the black studs evenly spaced along the belt. I used 8 studs on my belt. Lastly you will need a way to close it at the back. The choice is up to you, some people use industrial velcro, some use lacing, I used a regular belt buckle I bought at Tandy. I hope this helps, if you have any more specific questions about the belt, just ask! Cheers, Nef
  18. That is a shame to hear. I don't know what I would do if my sewing machine died on me. Probably cry in a corner rocking back and forth, haha! I hope you can get it back up and running eventually and we see another Nihilus amoung our ranks in the future.

    Sculping help

If you can, get a head cast done of your self and use plaster or a similar material that will harden like rock. Then you can put that in the oven with the sculpy on it. If you can't do that, then a biggest ball of tinfoil you can make and use that, since tinfoil is oven safe.
  20. Here is a link to my build thread. http://www.theflagshipeclipse.com/forums/index.php?/topic/798-nefthys-wip-nihilus/
  21. Hello! Welcome to the Flagship Eclipse and to the Darth Nihilus forums. For fabric there isn't a specific type that you 'must' use. There are recommendations however. I used linen for mine, and many use raw silk. You want to make sure you have a fabric with good weight and hang to it. Anything too light or too stiff won't sit right when you make the robes. Basically you want to get something similar to Jedi robes, but in black. I hope this helps! Cheers, Deez
  22. We went to the midnight launch at our local Toys R Us and then the Disney store first thing on Friday. We got a lot of the black series figures as well as a BB8 Sphero droid. Also picked up the new monopoly and risk games.
  23. This is a Pam and Scott mask from http://chucrew.com/
  24. Moonbase Creations on facebook also make a KOTOR Nihilus mask that is excellent. If you want to take your costume to the next level, you can always have the correct mask with the correct robes. At the moment, either the KOTOR or COTF mask are approvable with either set of robes. But if you wish to be super keen on the detail level, there are actually 2 different masks for each set of robes. The COTF mask is the one with the pronounced cheek bones, shorter length and more skull like (My Wicker Armor style mask). Where as the KOTOR mask is much more smooth, longer and less skull like (Moonbase Creations & Khro's Nest style). Moonbase Creations will be offering both style masks soon. They are working on a COTF one. Again, either mask will get you approved, but I would suggest going that extra step and matching the right mask with the right robes. Cheers, Deez
