Prefix: SL
Detachment: The Flagship Eclipse Detachment
Context: Star Wars: The Old Republic/Galaxy of Heroes


After being captured by Darth Malak while on a quest to find the Star Forge, Bastila Shan was tortured until finally turning to the Dark Side. She became his final apprentice, replacing the fallen Darth Bandon until her redemption at the hands of the Jedi, Revan.



This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.


  • This document is not intended to be a detailed how-to on costume construction; rather a visual guide to be used for 501st costume approval. Details on construction may be found on the respective costume detachment web forum.
  • GMLs uncertain about an aspect of submitted costume shall post questions in the appropriate DL/GML peer review section of the Legion forum.
  • Measurements given in this document are intended to be approximate and generalized; not criteria for approval.
  • Requirements for all 501st costumes are proportional to the wearer in scale, fit and size.
  • Text descriptions are only one part of the guideline. GMLs and costumers must consider both text and pictures (CRL and Reference) when reviewing the costume.


Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below.


DS Bastila Head.jpg Hair and Makeup
  • Hair is medium to dark brown.
  • The top of the costumer’s hair is pulled back in a half-ponytail, which is then split and combined with the bottom hair to create two short braids affixed with either an off-white or grey wrap.
    • If the braid is held with an off-white fixing, the bottom of the braid is loose.
    • If the braid is held with a grey fixing, the bottom of the braids are tucked back into the fixings to create a rounded look.
  • If present, the top center fringe is swept across the forehead towards the right side of the face.
  • Two side fringes sit relaxed on either side of the head, partially framing the costumer’s face.
  • Eye makeup consists of a dark, smokey eye look with heavy eyeliner.
  • Blush makeup is a neutral or soft pink color.
  • Lipstick is either a full lip dusty rose color or a combination of brick red upper lip and pink grenadine lower lip colors.




DS Bastila Tunic.jpg Tunic
  • Tunic is made of a cotton-like material.
  • Upper front of tunic has a main triangular shape, curving down from right to left and is medium to dark grey in color.
    • Grey section starts from a narrow section, approximately 1" (or 2.5 cm), across the right shoulder, sweeping across the top of the costumer’s chest and finishes approximately 3" (or 7.5 cm) wide on the left shoulder. These measurements should be proportionate to the costumer.
    • Medium grey piping separates the grey section from surrounding black sections.
    • Sleeves are of the same medium to dark grey color as the main part of the tunic.
  • Lower front skirt part of the tunic has diagonal black and medium grey panels falling to the costumer’s left side from right hip.
    • Skirt finishes in a upward ‘V’ design at the front.
  • Upper rear of the tunic has a triangular medium to dark grey section similar to the front, with black leather or leather-like piping running parallel to this section upon the black material adjacent.
    • Medium grey piping line separating the grey section and the black section of the tunic toward the costumer’s right side and a similar black leather or leather-like material piping separating the grey and black materials on the costumer’s left shoulder blade.
    • Medium grey piping line running diagonally away from the main grey section of the rear of the tunic finishing under the pauldron on the costumer’s left shoulder.
  • Rear of skirt has same diagonal design, falling to costumer’s right side from left hip.
    • All panels are separated by a black leather or leather-like material piping line.
  • Two vertical belt loops are present on the front of the tunic.
    • Straps attach to both the upper and lower sections of the tunic.
    • Straps are made of the same grey and black material as the tunic.
    • Center black sections are approximately twice the width of one of the grey stripes.
  • Collar should finish midway on the costumer’s neck.
  • No clasps, seals, or fixings are visible.




DS Bastila Shoulders.jpg Pauldrons
  • Pauldrons are made of a black material, matching the same finish as the tunic.
  • Pauldrons are padded with a foam like material construction and oval-shaped in appearance.
  • Medium grey piping line runs around the top edge of the pauldron, approximately ¼" (or 0.5-1 cm) from the edge.
  • No attachment systems are visible.




DS Bastila Elbow Wrap.jpg Elbow Pads
  • Elbow pads are made of a leather or leather-like material.

-The elbow pads are slightly curved to create a rounded shape when worn.

  • Medium grey stitching, approximately ¼" (or 0.5-1 cm) in width runs around the top and bottom of the elbow pad approximately ¼" (or 0.5-1 cm) from the edge.
  • An upward-facing, black ‘C’-shaped stitching connects to the bottom stitching of the elbow pad.
  • Two parallel stitched lines connect the ‘C’-shaped stitching and the upper medium grey stitching.
  • A strap shall affix the elbow pad.
    • If Velcro is used, it is not visible when the elbow pad is worn.




DS Bastila Bracer.jpg Forearm Vambraces
  • Vambraces are made of the same leather or leather-like material as the elbow pads.
  • Medium grey stitching, approximately ¼" (or 0.5-1 cm) in width runs around the top and bottom of the vambraces approximately ¼" from the edge.
  • A small section of leather or leather-like material is attached to the vambrace to create a hand guard with a rounded edge.
  • Hand Guard has black piping approximately ¼" (or 0.5-1 cm) in width and ¼" (or 0.5-1 cm) from the edge of the hand guard.
  • There are two sets of mirrored and symmetrical rectangular, black stitchings on both sides of the vambraces.
    • The upper set is approximately ¼th shorter in length than the longer set.
    • The corners of the stitchings are rounded.
  • Vambraces have no visible closures or fixings when worn.




DS Bastila Gloves.jpg Gloves
  • Gloves are black and can be of a leather or leather-like material with no noticeable texture, or of a smooth satin material.
  • Gloves are long enough to fit under the vambraces without any sleeve or skin being shown.




DS Bastila Belt.jpg Belt
  • Belt is made of the same leather or leather-like material as the vambraces and elbow pads and has rounded, piped edges.
  • Medium grey stitchings are present around the edge of the belt at the top and bottom.
  • Medium grey stitching runs parallel to the upper stitching approximately 1⁄3th of the way down the belt.
  • ‘D’ shape on the rear of the belt is constructed from the same material as the belt and has rounded, piped edges.
    • There are two evenly positioned stitch lines running the full length horizontally.
    • Medium grey stitching runs approximately 3⁄8" (or 1 cm) to ½" (or 1-1.5 cm) from edge.
  • Belt buckle sections has two piped edges with a rectangular section in the middle.
    • There are seams at the top, middle, and bottom of the rectangular section.
    • Two silver rectangles are spaced evenly in the rectangular section with the black material fed through them.




DS Bastila Leggings.jpg Pants
  • Pants are black and of a soft fabric material.
  • The fit of the pants is fitted at the top and slightly baggy near the knee and top of boots.




DS Bastila Boot.jpg Boots
  • Boots are of a leather or leather-like material.
    • Boots come up to just below the knee.
    • Boots have a modest heel and a low sole.
    • No visible straps, buckles, or decorations on the boots.
    • If the boots have a zipper, the zipper is on the interior of the boot to minimize visibility when worn.
  • Top back of the boot has a square 'greeblie'.
    • Greeblie is a hard, black material with a smooth finish.
    • Greeblie is approximately 1" (or 2.5 cm) in width and height.
    • A groove is present around the interior.




Optional Accessories

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.


SL maul eye.jpeg Sith Eyes
  • Special effects contacts in shades of red, yellow, and orange are worn to give the illusion of Sith eyes.
  • While considered an essential part of this character, contact lenses are not required for 501st acceptance. All persons wishing to utilize contact lenses are encouraged to first see their optometrist for a fitting.




DS Bastila Hilt.jpg Lightsaber
  • The hilt resembles the established double-bladed design for Dark Side Bastila from either Knights of the Old Republic or Galaxy of Heroes.
  • If the lightsaber has blades, the blades are red in color.
