Fans who eagerly jumped into Civilization 7 in the early access period quickly noticed some significant issues with the game’s UI. Developer Firaxis Games released a statement regarding the influx of negative early reviews for their latest title, promising that fixing the UI was a top priority. Since launching into Advanced Access, Civilization 7 has now received two patches aimed at improving the gameplay experience ahead of full launch on February 11th. For players considering whether the game is playable upon release, this latest round of updates shows some promise.

Players who preordered Civilization 7 got to play the new game starting on February 5th. Since then, Firaxis has taken Advanced Access feedback into account, quickly releasing a second patch ahead of the planned full release. This update doesn’t address every UI concern, but it does work to improve issues like missing text and icons. It’s a step in the right direction, at least, and just in time for another wave of players to get their hands on Civilization 7. The game’s worldwide release is staggered slightly by platform, releasing at midnight EST on February 11th for PC via Steam and Epic, but not arriving until a few hours later for console players.

Civilization 7 1.0.1 Patch 2 released on PC and Steam Deck on February 10th, so players jumping into the game on launch day should see these improvements in their game version. Additional quality of life updates will arrive in the 1.1.0 patch, set to arrive in March.

In addition to UI fixes across the board, Patch 2 also tweaks the game’s AI and provides fixes for gameplay pacing. Firaxis also notes that, because the PC and console versions of the game are temporarily out of sync with the latest patch, crossplay will be unavailable between PC and console until 1.0.1 Patch 2 arrives for those platforms.
