(ill add to this as i try new brands)

what i use now -

Ive yet to use airbrush paints for my makeups due to cost so ive been trying out different brands of brush on paints instead.

MAKEUP -

Fardel Cream body and face makeup. Fantastic on the skin, not so good on latex caps, but works pretty well on glatzan caps. Does wear off after a while in high rub areas even with a sealant spray over the top, but can be reapplied without too much fuss to those areas.

Fardel Liqued makeup - a runnier version of the cream, but also can be used in airbrushes. Ive bought this aswell and found this goes on the cap better than the cream.

Both of these i apply with a foundation brush as that gives the best smooth coverage and can get into all the tricky places like inside ears and corners of eyes.

For the black tattoos.ive used Fardel liquid black For the eye makeup ive used MAC liquidlast eyeliner as this stuff is waterproof! I use Lipink eyebrow liner in black for my lips as its a stain and wont come off easily and yes can be used for lips aswell as eyebrows and eyes.

SEALANT -

I used Ben Nye final seal spray and also Kryolan Fixier spray and find the Kryolan goes on better as its an aerosol but you can put the ben nye into an airbrush as its better at fixing makeup.

I will see if America has these brands. I know we can get Ben Nye and MAC. Maybe theres a way to stencil the tattoo's on the head? Maybe like stickers? hmmm might have to look into this!

Thanks for the tips!

Not sure if this has been mentioned about makeup and latex bald caps/appliances, but I have found one thing to be helpful. Most bald caps and any appliances you make your self are not sealed for makeup (airbrushing it on helps immensely, though). The surface is just too slick for most cream makeups to stick to. You really need to use a castor sealor on any bare latex to give it a little extra tac for the makeup to adhere to. It is not a 100% fix and airbrushing is much better, but it does help a lot when you don't have access to an airbrush.

Whoops...had not read your bald cap thread yet so did not see any mention of pax or castor seal. I have not used a bald cap in decades, so did not even think to look at that thread  .

I usually tint the latex I use to get as close as I can to what I want when making appliances. Lets me paint on any shading, tattoos, or other lines I want with acrylics. Kinda a pain in the backside to get the blending make-up to match the cured latex some times, but saves me a load of time when getting ready and dressed.

Having done CW Ventress at a con in Aug'08, I've had a little bit of experience putting on a bald cap and body makeup. This subject has been on my brain lately as I'm preparing a new Ventress costume for this year's con and I've been trying to remember what we'd done with some success last year. I used makeup and appliances that are available at my local costuming stores. Sadly, they don't tend to carry the really high quality stuff, which I know will always give you the best result. I'm considering ordering some Ben Nye products for this year, so any reputable internet store suggestions (preferrably in Canada) would be welcome.

Anyways, last year I used a Woochie latex bald cap and several Graftobian products to apply it, including their pro adhesive, their flesh-toned liquid latex and castor seal. My makeup was applied by my hubby primarily by airbrush. We used a good quality liquid foundation to cover my head and face evenly, followed by Mehron liquid makeup for the light grey base. The supply of liquid makeup colours at the store was extremely limited, but I wanted to add low- and highlights to help achieve a more realistic look. Hubby is an avid plastic modeller and airbrusher, so he suggested using acrylic modelling paint of all things - it's non-toxic and waterbased. This worked perfectly. I used good quality every-day makeup for the eyes and lips. And lastly, we used Graftobian setting spray in between coats of airbrushed makeup to try to make it last as long as possible. I was able to attend the con for about 5 hours before the sweat from my head started making the back of the bald cap come loose.
