  1. So... Where do we post random shots of our costume in action? It doesn't feel right to put it in trooping, but it's not a build or approval photos. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. I know the Revan in my Garrison has a taffeta one. It looks quite good, has the sheen and behaves properly. It'd be cheaper than leather too.
  3. Maybe I just asked in the wrong place as I stuck it in Rebel Supporters. It's here- http://www.forum.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=69343&highlight=odan While I get that anything *can* be approvable, it wasn't the most helpful of replies. If I actually plan on going ahead I might try to ask again where you suggest, but I've got two other costumes in the queue before Jyn.
  4. I don't think vinyl would look right. More importantly, it won't behave right. You see how even in that photo there is bend in it? With vinyl it won't want to do that.
  5. I agree with this a lot. Will we only ever be "bad" EU characters or a home for anything non-canon? I don't know if anyone here plays it, but there is a miniatures game called Imperial Assault by Fantasy Flight Games that have some seriously awesome characters. I tried asking where the smuggler would go through Rebel Legion but got basically nothing. I think there should be a serious think with both the 501st and Rebel Legion and some kind of plan put in place cause there's a lot of stuff coming out and the chaos right now isn't ideal.
  6. I got my Mara cleared last year. Think the new pics look great! Best of luck with the clearance!
  7. A good "fake" material that you can use to mock up for leather is craft foam. Because it has the thickness that leather can have, I find it really useful for mocking up pieces before cutting into the real leather. Then you can use it to create your patterns for the real leather so you don't have to ruin good leather trying to get it right.
  8. If you're looking for Worbla in the EU my-costumes.de are a good supplier. They have both the original and black kinds.
  9. Raw silk is VERY different from jersey. To start with, silk has no stretch. The finish is different, the weight is different, and it will hang differently.
  10. I really love my Pumpkin, but if the colour doesn't suit you, I think you could get away with Arda's dark copper red, warm light brown, or fire orange to be in with the 501st CRL.
  11. Well, I really recommend Arda Wigs as a wig supplier. I got mine in Pumpkin and get comments on it all the time. In terms of colour, the 501st CRL says "strawberry-blonde, red, or red-gold" however, I think the Arica period comes under Rebel Legion? They have a reference guide for it (where the 501st doesn't), at least, but it doesn't say about hair colour. I would check with them as the costume seems to come under them.
  12. Hey, the only approved General Grievous I know comes from a friend called John Donaldson in the Irish 501st Garrison. He was at one time talking about possibly selling it. You could pop in by the 501stireland.com forum and see if he's still thinking about it.
  13. Hey folks! Just got my clearance for my Mara Jade so I am officially DS-87544. Very excited to finally get cleared with the Legion and would love to officially join the detachment.
  14. I used a jersey for my hood.
  15. I do not put stock on anything that will have any weight on it bearing up if it is only attached by glue. Every time I've tried, it's fallen apart- usually when it was most inconvenient. Sewing is not hard, at least not the kind of sewing you have to do to attach Velcro. Very simple stitches that go up/down through all layers will do it. But hand stitching Velcro is painful. Give a shout out to your friends/family. Almost certainly one of then can teach you enough to be able to do this.
  16. Bariss is a Rebel Legion approvable costume already, so you could go through them.
  17. It might partially be the time of year. Except us crazy costumes, a lot of places won't imagine there's a need for heavy fabrics when it's May.
  18. Boosting signal on this as I still don't have an answer and want to finish this up this weekend.
  19. I think it depends on the style of shin guards that get chosen as some of them have very distinct looks. Without knowing which she's going for I don't think anyone can tell you for sure as some would need to be fully around and others not. The configuration of other accessories is a separate issue if I'm reading it right.
  20. I think it depends on which type of shin guards you're doing as Mara has at least 3 different versions. I don't think the Decipher ones cover the back, but they look very different from the comic versions.
  21. I'm not an expert, but it looks like it's just a little low to me. Could you pull the shoulder straps to bring the whole chest pieces up? Then it might look more like what the references show. The reference has the ring close to the navel/waist where yours is clearly lower. So pulling it up might "fix" the proportions without you having to do much else.
  22. Any kind of flexible plastic is good for stencils, but if you can't find that, I use card stock for my Trill dots.
