  1. On closer inspection from another photo, the square section stands out from the body noticeably more than the switch section. So, minor tweak there. Plus a small change to make the indented part of the raised sections actually print as part of the main body. Then the inserts will have a cutout to fit around it. It will make painting easier.
  2. Here's the early beginnings of the design of the central section. I think the insert is probably raised a bit too far. It's definitely raised past the grips, but probably not by that much. The rest is pretty good. Will start expanding to the ends later this weekend I hope.
  3. I got a ton of photos of the Grand Inquisitor's lightsaber at Celebration. Enough that I'm hoping to be able to design the saber for 3d printing. I'm currently planning to do two versions. One will be a static prop, capable of having day blades inserted, but won't have space for electronics, nor will the circle close in half. The other will be capable of being built around parts for the Custom Saber Shop MHS v2 system, and where the circle will close in half. I only get time to work on this kind of thing maybe every 10-14 days, so it may take a few weeks. Someone else may beat me to the goal if they have time for focus. But if not, mine will be there. It's just a hobby, so final files will go on Thingiverse for free if leadership thinks it's good enough for people to use for approval. The working assumption is that the saber has a 1.5" outer diameter for the main body (excluding the raised grip portions). Here are a couple of shots from Celebration that I'm working off of (I have a bunch more, but some of them have some pretty bad glare).
  4. I've been having the same problem. Wasn't sure if it was just me. What's funny is that the forums that you don't need to log in for are working fine. It's the login failing.
  5. Awesome. Thanks for the reply. I didn't highlight all the uses of the word black in that section - there's 5 other occurences. The reference photo that convinced me is when he's with Darth Maul, you can see the slight difference. maul-oppress by hockeytiggerrr, on Flickr
  6. I've highlighted the conflicting wording. I'm not sure why black was used. Every reference photo from The Clone Wars shows his dark makeup as dark brown. This is especially noticeable when he's in the same scenes with Darth Maul whose makeup is black. Just want to clarify before I get too far. I have a very dark brown makeup that I want to try out and see if it works.
  7. Just bumping again to see if anyone has a comment on the black versus brown makeup discrepancy in the CRL as referenced above. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. Yep. Just so many cool Sith Lords out there. Have to have a few more to troop in. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. My first question is about clarity on the CRL description of the makeup. There is one line that the head is mostly dark brown. Then every other reference in that section is to black makeup, including the base of the horns in the black section being black. On all my screen caps, the makeup does appear dark brown. Which way do I need to go? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. I'm going to start this WIP now, as I've started the research. I won't get too hard into this until my Darth Maul is done (targeting May). 11. I'm not sure if this will help, but I have that exact fabric from Dharma for my Darth Maul build. Here's a photo against my Darth Vader gloves and sleeves as well as my Chippie boots (which are a bit worn). It's pretty black. That having been said, the fabric in the above photo is folded over on itself several times, so no light gets through. When it is a single layer, the color will alter by what's behind it, so you'll want to line it with something black. There is a bit of color texture to it, when you are up close. Dharma will send a sample swatch to you. That's what I did, because I had already bought my linen for Darth Maul and I wanted to make sure that the raw silk was a good match.
  12. That's too bad. He was both good and bad while wearing that particular outfit, so that's one I was hoping there would be opportunity for. I may still do the Tie Factory Training version. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. I'm currently toying with starting a Starkiller WIP in this thread, mostly because my wife is working on Juno Eclipse and I'd love to have a true couples costume. There are quite a few different versions of the costume from the game, some of which have a CRL. My backup choice would be the TIE Factory Training version, as it is recognizable and has photos in the CRL to help. But, my favourite version is the Corellia/Death Star version, and I'd love to do this one. Untitled by hockeytiggerrr, on Flickr I know this version is acceptable for the Rebel Legion, but I'm wondering if it can be used for the 501st as well. Starkiller wears it while he's still working for Vader and assembles the Rebel leaders as a means to distract the emperor(or so he thinks). He wears it on the Death Star which can play out to a dark side ending. I'd be willing, when my time to build it comes, to do all the screenshots/research to get it to a new approvable costume. I think it should be 501-acceptable, and just wanted to ask the question. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. Thanks. Totally missed seeing that. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. I just want to make sure I know the right place to create a WIP thread for an incomplete CRL character. I'm planning to start a Savage Opress later this year, once my Darth Maul is complete. I can see a forum section under "Incomplete CRL" for "Dark Side Adepts" but there aren't any WIPs there. There is a thread for the missing Savage Opress photos. Do I start a new thread there in the Dark Side Adepts section for my WIP?
