Context: Star Wars Rebels
The Grand Inquisitor was the name adopted by a Pau'an male Jedi Knight who turned to the dark side of the Force and became the leader of the Inquisitorius, a band of Jedi hunters who served the Galactic Empire.


NOTE: Grand Inquisitor Versions: Please note that there are two acceptable versions of the Grand Inquisitor costume. If one variant has already been approved, another variant will still need to be approved by the GML before use.}}


This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.


  • This document is not intended to be a detailed how-to on costume construction; rather a visual guide to be used for 501st costume approval. Details on construction may be found on the respective costume detachment web forum.
  • GMLs uncertain about an aspect of submitted costume shall post questions in the appropriate DL/GML peer review section of the Legion forum.
  • Measurements given in this document are intended to be approximate and generalized; not criteria for approval.
  • Requirements for all 501st costumes are proportional to the wearer in scale, fit and size.
  • Text descriptions are only one part of the guideline. GMLs and costumers must consider both text and pictures (CRL and Reference) when reviewing the costume.


Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below.


Grand inquis mask.png Grand Inquisitor’s Mask Version 1
  • Through the use of prosthetic appliances or high end silicone mask the following key facial features resemble that of Grand Inquisitor.: Face, forehead, tattoo’s, side discs.
  • Prosthetic appliances are made from silicone, foam latex, or gelatine. The face is white, with red tattoos, engraved lines in forehead, and silver side discs.
  • The prosthetic appliance is blended into the skin and has little to no noticeable separation between the skin around the eyes,mouth and the appliance.
  • Costumer is able to move their facial features.




Grand inquisitor helmet.png Helmet Version 2
  • Black with a matte or satin finish.
  • Light metallic weathering on all edges of helmet.
  • Visor is dark red, smoke, or black and opaque enough to hide the eyes.
  • Silver details painted on the top left of the forehead are pointed at the lower ends.
  • Sides of the middle section slightly flare out.
  • Metallic gray disks on each side where the ears are located.
  • Three (3) circular indentations on each side underneath the disks.
  • Six (6) oval cutouts on the front face plate, three (3) on each side at an inward facing angle.
  • Any functional seams should be hidden when assembled.

Ideally, the helmet sits inside the neck guard.

  • Black, satin-finish leather or leather like material composed of 5 stacked strips.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • The strips are ideally one inch wide, but are proportionate to the wearer for accuracy.




Grand inquis shoulderarmor.png Shoulder Armor
  • Constructed from the same rigid material as the chest armor.
  • Located on the outer shoulder upper arm area.
  • Black semi-gloss color.
  • Silver imperial COG design on each shoulder.
  • Plates have a thickness to them, resembling plate armor.
  • Curved fin at the top and bottom edge facing out.




Grand inquis chestplate.png Chest Plate
  • Black semi-gloss in color and constructed of a rigid material.
  • Covers the neck, upper shoulder, upper chest, and upper back areas.
  • Series of four silver stripes on each upper shoulder area.
  • Two (2) silver pin stripes encompassing neck area in a V shape, one directly at the base of the neck and one extending further down toward the chest in the front.
  • Plates have a thickness resembling plate armor.
  • Red Trapezoid display in the center of the chest.
  • High neck guard that curves out at the top, and is open in the front.
  • Neck guard has a thick metallic gray lip.
    • A silver pinstripe runs under the thick metallic gray lip.
    • The base of the neck opening on the chest is the same metallic gray as on the neck and helmet ears.
    • Metallic gray on neck opening does not exceed the front edge of chest.
    • A silver arrowhead detail is present on left and right side of neck guard.
  • Back inverted trapezoid box with (2) slits, has a design intended to hold the lightsaber to the back.
  • Back Plate ends in a fork.
  • Any functional seams are hidden.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Red Trapezoid display is illuminated.




Grand inquis shirt.png Shirt
  • Fabric is a grey medium weight suiting material.
  • Torso has close vertical ribbing, extending to the width of the chest armor’s outside edge.
    • 15 ribs in total.
  • Sleeves are long, and without decoration, cuffs or buttons.
  • A bright red stripe runs down the outside edge of each arm.
  • No cylinder pockets.
  • Code cylinders are not visible.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Torso vertical ribbing is ½ inch apart in front, or proportionate to the width of the chest armor’s outside edge on the costumer.




Grand inquisitor gauntlets replace.png Forearm Bracers
  • Black semi-gloss and constructed from the same rigid material as the chest armor.
  • Black rectangular panel on the left bracer with two (2) rectangular white buttons and one (1) square red button on the outside of each.
  • Any functional seams are hidden.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • White and red buttons are illuminated.




Grand inquis gloves handplates.png Gloves and Hand Plates
  • Medium grey in color, made of either rubber, nomex, leather, or leather-like material, with no visible straps or logos/designs. The fingers are enclosed, non-textured.
  • Black semi-gloss hand plates constructed from the same rigid material as the chest armor.
  • Six (6) sided shaped plate covers the back of each hand.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Gloves are rubber or rubber like chemical gloves, in grey.
  • Gloves match in color to the sleeves of the shirt.




Grand inquis addtl belt.png Belt
  • The belt is constructed from a non-textured leather or a leather-like material.
  • There are two (2) loops on the belt, right of the belt buckle and in the middle of the back.
  • The buckle is constructed from a horizontally brushed metal, or metal looking material.
  • Buckle has a flush circle design in its center.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Belt does not have grooves.




Grand inquis thigharmor.png Thigh Armor
  • Black semi-gloss and constructed from the same rigid material as the chest armor.
  • Covers the outer thigh, one hangs off each hip.
  • Top edge has a fin that curves outwards.
  • Bottom comes to a rounded point.
  • Hangs from the belt.
  • Has a thickness to it resembling medal plate armor.




Grand inquis trousers.png Trousers
  • Fabric is a medium weight suiting material matching the tunic and medium grey in color.
  • Trousers have narrow stiff flares.
  • Pockets are acceptable, they are not visible with the thigh armor on.
  • Dark gray stripe runs down each leg in the front.
  • Legs are bloused into the boots.
  • Stitching in a long rectangular shape, directly under the belt buckle.

  • The greaves may either be a separate part over the boots, or constructed as part of the boots.
  • Black semi-gloss and constructed of the same material as the chest, shoulder, forearm, and thigh armor, or from leather or leather like-material.
  • Slightly weathered with no visible joints. A butted seam at the inside or back is acceptable if required.
  • An ankle ring is present at the bottom of the greave, or ankle of the boot if constructed on the boot.
    • Bottom edge of ring flares outwards.
  • Sides of the greaves are squared off and not curved against the sides of the calf.
  • Boots are knee-high, black, lace-less, smooth non-textured, and are leather or leather-like material.
    • Rubber is not acceptable.
    • PVC or synthetic material is allowed as long as it gives the appearance of leather.
  • Boots are free of decoration.
  • Boots have conservative heels.
  • If zippers are present, they are hidden on the inner part of the boot shaft.
    • Not visible from the front, side or back.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • The ring sits just above the ankle.
  • Boots are English riding (dress) boots or Equestrian boots.
  • Boots do not have a zipper.
  • Boots are made of leather.




Optional Accessories

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.


Grand inquis yellow eye.png Yellow Eyes
  • The contacts are yellow in color.
  • While considered an essential part of this character, contact lenses are not required for 501st acceptance. All persons wishing to utilize contact lenses are encouraged to first see their optometrist for a fitting.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Lenses have a red flare surrounding the yellow pupil.




Grand inquis hilt.png Crescent or Disc Lightsaber
  • Constructed of ridged material.
  • Black and metallic in color.
  • Hilt with a half circle or full circle construction.
  • One blade or two.
  • If the lightsaber has a blade (or blades), they are red in color.
