Context: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Born the son of Jedi Knight Kento Marek, Galen was on Kashyyyk when he was discovered by Darth Vader. Vader killed everyone who witnessed his discovery of the boy, and then took Galen as his secret apprentice. Vader's training of Galen Marek was brutal, and his efforts resulted in a killing machine named Starkiller.



This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.


  • This document is not intended to be a detailed how-to on costume construction; rather a visual guide to be used for 501st costume approval. Details on construction may be found on the respective costume detachment web forum.
  • GMLs uncertain about an aspect of submitted costume shall post questions in the appropriate DL/GML peer review section of the Legion forum.
  • Measurements given in this document are intended to be approximate and generalized; not criteria for approval.
  • Requirements for all 501st costumes are proportional to the wearer in scale, fit and size.
  • Text descriptions are only one part of the guideline. GMLs and costumers must consider both text and pictures (CRL and Reference) when reviewing the costume.


Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below.


Starkiller Desert Survival Helmet.png Helmet
  • The helmet is made from a rigid material such as fiberglass or resin it is gold with silver, gun metal grey coloring, and white stripes.
  • The lens are dark.
  • There is a red drip under the left eye.
  • The helmet is detailed with blood splatters.
  • The front of the snout has a silver colored rounded trapezoid shape with three horizontal trenches and a black vertical trench is thicker than the horizontal trenches in the center.
  • There are two cheek tusks present.
  • On each side of the helmet is an indented disc ear piece.
  • There are 6 head spikes with 4 mounted on the top of the helmet, and 2 mounted on the back.
  • Cloth wrapping sloppily and loosely covers parts of the helmet, appearing as loose bandages that match the arms.




 

Starkiller Desert Survival Padawan Braid.png Padawan Hair braid
  • Padawan Hair braid hangs down from inside rear of the helmet to the middle of the back.
  • The hair is blonde and wrapped by five sections of black rubber tubing.




 

Starkiller Desert Survival Scarf.png Scarf, Neck Wrap
  • Brown material that matches the sash cloth wrap is wrapped several times around the neck in a scarf fashion.
  • Each scarf loop gradually gets larger.
  • The wrap ends in a tail-fashion hanging over the front of the right shoulder.
  • All skin is hidden by the scarf.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Black tubing is visible on the back of the neck.




Starkiller Desert Survival Tunic Skirt.png Tunic and Skirt
  • The skirt is a textured sand color and made from a natural fabric, and it is weathered.
  • The tunic is a wrapping style.
    • The sleeves of the tunic are covered by the gloves and arm wraps.
    • Head spikes are mounted to the tunic in the upper back 2 (two) below the neck. Two more are on the outer shoulder area where the sleeve starts.
  • The skirt matches the tunic in color and fabric.
    • It is constructed of 3 (three) panels. 1 (one) panel covering the front oblique, and 2 (two) panels covering each of the rear oblique corners with an opening to the rear.
    • The skirt ends around the mid calf.
  • If the skirt is separate from the tunic, but with no visible attachment methods, including but not limited to belts and straps.




Starkiller Desert Survival Gloves.png Gloves and Arm Wraps
  • The gloves are dark green and reach to just below the elbow.
  • They are weathered with black stains.
  • Cloth Wrappings surround the arm from the wrist to the elbow.
  • The arm wraps are fixed tight at the wrist and should not hang down.
  • Sand color wraps that match the rest of the parts.
  • Tusken Raider head spikes are mounted on each under-arm.
  • Robotic-like electronics matching the references are present on the top of the hand and forearm of the right arm.
  • Three thin black cables run from the hand to forearm on the right arm, with one connecting to the lower forearm and two connecting to the upper forearm.




Starkiller DLHoth Claws.png Claws
  • Eight claws are present and are metallic in color.
  • They are worn on all fingers and thumbs except for the ring fingers.
  • The index finger and middle finger claws are longer than those of the thumb and little finger.
  • Back end of the claws do not reach the wrist.




Starkiller Desert Survival Right Arm Spike.png Right arm Spike
  • Mounted over the arm wraps on the right arm.
  • Metallic spike starts at a small point just after the wrist on the outside of the arm.
  • The spike is wider higher-up on the arm..
  • The spike ends in a beveled edge with a spike like point, sticking out a few inches past the bent elbow.




Starkiller Desert Survival Bandoliers.png Bandoliers
  • Two bandoliers are worn in a crisscross fashion and are dark brown in color.
  • Each bandolier starts off shoulder wide at the shoulder, getting wider as it continues down the

body.

  • No straps or belt type fasteners are visible.
  • The inner worn bandoleer (over the right shoulder) has three rows of nine small pockets with snaps

holding the pockets closed. The outer most pocket covers the view of the two pockets behind it, so only the outer most pockets requires the snap closures.

  • The outer worn bandolier (over the left shoulder) has the same pocket set up as the inner worn bandolier. The outer bandolier has three leather loops in the front and back, each holding a silver thermal detonator.




Starkiller Desert Survival Sash Saber Hilts.png Waist Sash, and Saber Hilts
  • Waist sash is made of similar fabric and color as the tunic.
  • Waist sash consists of an approximately six inch wide girth belt that ties in the back
  • Any five lightsaber trophy hilts are worn on the waist sash, attached with metal snap-links.
  • The fixation points are set randomly at different heights along the sash.
  • Trophy hilts hang vertically at different heights along the sash.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Darth Vader saber  (worn vertical front right leg)
  • One half of Darth Maul saber (worn vertical rear right leg)
  • The Tip of Kazdan Paratus; saber pike. (worn vertical centered rear)
  • Rahm Kota saber (worn vertical rear side left leg)
  • The lightsaber of Galen Marek. (worn vertical front side left leg)




 

Starkiller Desert Survival Pants.png Pants
  • The pants are made from a dark brown material and are weathered.
  • The pant legs are tucked into the boots. 




Starkiller Desert Survival Boots.png Boots
  • Boots are constructed of brown leather (or leather-like material).
  • Boots have no visible laces or zipper.
    • If a zipper is present, it is located on the front of the boot underneath the vertical ribbing, or on the inside of the leg.
  • Boots have a rounded toe.
  • Vertical ribbing from above the instep to the top of the boot.
  • Two horizontal one inch bands (of the same material as the boot) are below the top of the boot and spaced approximately one inch apart from each other.
  • There is a lower third band at ankle height.




 

Optional Accessories

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.


 

Starkiller DLHoth hilt.png Lightsaber
  • Three long spikes at emitter end.
  • Three cut outs in the emitter, between the spikes, showing black and silver stripes.
  • Black saber body with seven silver rings.
  • Silver Pommel.
  • When saber is not in hand, it is hanging in front of his right leg on a covertec wheel.
  • Leather (or leather like) wrap can be put around the area where he holds the saber, closer to the

emitter end.

  • If a blade is used, it is red.




Blankwhite.gif Leg Wraps
  • This option removes the skirt requirement.
  • Sand colored leg wraps, same color as the arm wraps.
  • Leg wraps cover over the pants, ending inside the boot.
